Thank you all for signing the petition.
Even though Calders Wharf was purchased by the London County Council in 1951 as Island Gardens Park extension, evidenced by maps at the London Metropolitan Archives, the LBTH committee decided to approve the plans.
We have to continue to fight for land which rightfully belongs to the people and not be given away to private developers, please sign the following petition which will be sent to the government:

Our Grade II listed park is once again under threat from with the granting of planning permission to tear down the adjacent Calders Wharf Community centre and erect a four storey block of flats together with Boundary Wall, which not only belongs to the park acts as the buffer zone to the Greenwich World Heritage Site.
The Calders Wharf site is actually the Island Gardens Park extension as purchased from the London County Council in 1951 to increase the park space. This is evidenced by maps and plans filed at the London Metropolitan Archives.
The proposed flats will sell for upwards of £1 million pounds and with no boundary wall our beautiful park will be nothing more than their back yard and spoil the natural beauty of the park.
The wall is owned by LB Tower Hamlets and for this to go ahead the developers need to demolish this wall.
A local authority shoud not be assisting in the destruction of this park.
The plans are insensitive and not in keeping with the established local Conservation Area.
Please help us have this decision reversed by signing our petition.
We the undersigned object to the demolition of the boundary wall as outlined in PA/12/02785.
