Thanks to all who signed this petition. Together with paper forms that were circulated around Cambridge, 1,340 people put their names to this petition, which was presented to Cambridgeshire County Council's Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, September 28.
Officers at the council are now looking at a variety of options for the future of the library service, but thanks to those who signed, we have been able to make it clear to those carrying out the review just how strong feelings are among the community.
Arbury Court Library, in Cambridge, is one of 25 community libraries across Cambridgeshire that are under threat from Cambridgeshire County Council's Library Service Review. Under the plans, the facility could be closed or become a volunteer-run service.
The library currently serves thousands of city residents, mainly in the Arbury, King's Hedges and Chesterton wards, and we believe any reduction in this vital service would be a huge loss to these communities.
Further details on the plans are available at http://www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk

We the undersigned, call upon Cambridgeshire County Council to firmly reject any suggestion to close Arbury Court Library, or to replace the existing professional service with a reduced service run by volunteers.
We believe the huge social cost to the community would far outweigh the small financial gain to be made.
The Defend Arbury Court Library petition to Cambridgeshire County Council was written by Kirsty Marais and is in the category Culture at GoPetition.
