Dear Family Caregivers and Advocates,
Thank you so much for signing our petition to express your support for increased funding for family caregivers through the California Caregiver Resource Center. We greatly appreciate your support and advocacy.
Unfortunately, the Association of California Caregiver Resource Centers’ $20 million additional budget request did not make it into the California State budget for fiscal year 22-23. Our services will continue to be funded at their current level under the Department of Aging, so please continue to reach out to us for support and services.
While the Caregiver Resource Centers did not receive additional funding for services and supports for family caregivers in this budget, know that we are committed to serving expanding numbers of family caregivers with evidence-based and evidence-informed services and will continue to build on practices that serve diverse communities throughout the state. If you are interested in getting involved in more caregiving advocacy efforts, we invite you to visit the California Caregiver Resource Center Advocacy page: https://www.caregivercalifornia.org/advocacy/. To stay up to date on our latest efforts and how you can help, sign up for our newsletter while you are there.
Sincerely,
Mary Sheridan
Executive Director Association of California Caregiver Resource Centers
Since 1984, the California Caregiver Resource Centers (CRC) have been the primary organizations serving unpaid family caregivers of adults with dementias such as Alzheimer's disease and other disorders that cause cognitive impairments. Through the CRCs, caregivers across income, age, and diagnosis can receive free services to help relieve some of the physical and mental stress of caregiving
The Association of California Caregiver Resource Centers is currently requesting an increase of $20 million annually to the California Caregiver Resource Center budget allocation to meet the needs of California’s 4.7 million unpaid family caregivers. Adding $20 million per year will allow the CRCs to expand capacity to support family caregivers by doubling all services and offering culturally responsive and language appropriate services to meet the needs of all Californian caregiving families.
As California continues to promote home- and community-based care through the Master Plan for Aging and waiver programs, the importance and needs of family caregivers cannot be overlooked.
Dear Governor Gavin Newsom and Members of the California State Legislature,
The undersigned are unpaid family caregivers, and individuals who support family caregivers, who strongly support of the California Caregiver Resource Centers’ FY22-23 Budget Request of an additional $20M annually to Build Partnerships and Expand Capacity to Meet the Goals of the California Master Plan for Aging.
Adding $20 million per year will allow the CRCs to expand capacity to support family caregivers by doubling all services – respite, assessment and care planning, care navigation, education, counseling, legal and financial planning advice, and professionally-led support groups, and offering culturally responsive and language appropriate services to meet the needs of all Californian caregiving families.
As California continues to promote home- and community-based care through the Master Plan for Aging and waiver programs, the importance and needs of family caregivers cannot be overlooked. We ask you to please support this time and data-tested program in continuing to provide much-needed services across the State.
