The Greens will introduce a members bill in parliament to try and sort out this labelling mess.
Australians deserve to know if the money they spend on a product in the supermarket benefits Australian businesses or is heading to foreign company headquarters.
The current labelling is so confusing to know which products are Australian or foreign.
This petition is aimed at changing the confusing labelling as a flag of the product owner would have to be displayed clearly.
Australian companies which are not 100% Australian owned but have a majority Australian owner would have to have the percentage of ownership on the pack along with the Aussie flag and a flag of the foreign company partner.
A company which uses Australian and imported ingredients would have to inform shoppers of which country has the highest percentage in the finished product on its label.
We, the undersigned, call on minister Chris Bowen to implement a labelling code that ends the confusion about country of ownership and product origin when doing the supermarket shopping.
