The owner of the property in question has stated that he does not and did not intend to open a gambling establishment at this location. He furthur states that the intended use will be a two bedroom apartment or a small commercial office.
I have lived in the Cheat Lake Community since the early 80's and like many of you share a sense of pride in the Cheat Lake area. As you are aware, our community is changing, some things we cannot do anything about and other changes we can. It has recently been brought to our attention, that the new road connecting Greystone to 857 will soon be home to a "Hotspot". This will change our quality of life either directly or indirectly.
The property in question is located on the corner of Bower Lane and Bell Lane. This area is a small 8-parcel subdivision and has restrictions and covenants that would give every indication it is for residential use...not commercial. Being written in the 50's the covenants and restrictions are somewhat vague. Residential homes are located all around including behind this parcel. Elderly families live the on street and close to the property. At this time, young children must walk by this property to catch the school bus at the Greystone entrance.
If you use the new road, you will drive by this everyday.
We are all aware of the types of problems that Morgantown Hotspots are experiencing. Alcohol and cigarettes are sold at these establishments and they are frequently robbed due to the large amounts of cash the State requires to be kept on hand. People and families are losing everything as they become addicted to gambling. This is not about every Americans right to gamble, smoke and drink. The question is "Where should these establishments be located?"
I am asking for your help...As a community...The Cheat Lake Community we need to band together with ONE VOICE to keep this establishment from our neighborhood.
Please consider signing the petition... your help is urgently needed now.
It has come to our attention that a certain parcel of land on the new Bowers Lane and corner of Bell Lane may potentially be the location of a new Video Gambling "Hotspot". This is being constructed in a Residential subdivision known as the Thomas M Bell Subdivision.
We are seeking to block this establishment from our neighborhood. These establishments are known to bring crime and other unwanted intrusions into the areas they are built. If in fact a "Hotspot" is going in it is our goal to block the ABC permitting which will in turn block the LVL gambling permit.
We will furthermore petition for a public hearing in this matter.
The No HotSpot petition to Hotspot was written by Anonymous and is in the category Neighborhood Living at GoPetition.
