Thank you so much for supporting my petition regarding Starbucks.
The Inquiry will take place at 10am on 10 June 2009 at Brighton Town Hall, Bartholomew Square, Brighton, East Sussex.
This petition is present on file and will be presented to the inspector as part of the appeal documentation.
You and anyone interested in this case is more than welcome to come along, take part / observe and speak at the inquiry with the inspector discretion.
There are currently some 12 coffee shops on St James's street - many more in the surrounding area.
Every time a new store opens, trade falls a little in each existing store.
With the introduction of Starbucks, rents will rise and the inevitable result is that local independent traders are forced to close.
There were almost 500 objections made to the council about this application. Starbucks decided to open anyway! Local historians concerned that a Starbucks would damage the historical character of the east cliff conservation area.
Local traders scared of losing their livelihoods to trade unionists and fair trade campaigners.
Brighton & Hove City Council refused on the 21.05.2008 a planning permission (BH2008/01039) for Starbucks at St. James Street.
We object to Starbucks appeal to the Planning Inspectorate.
The Stop Starbucks from Opening on St James Street in Brighton petition to The Planning Inspectorate was written by Joerg and is in the category City & Town Planning at GoPetition.
