The meat industry also want to stop the camel cull and they are lobbying hard. For this reason I have decided to close my petition to stop the cull because I am afraid that as much as the aerial cull is an extremely cruel form of slaughter, the alternative would be so much worse for these beautiful animals.
Thank you to all who signed, your signatures were not wasted as I have sent them to the ministers to show we wanted birth control to be introduced. Lisa.
The Australian Government are planning a mass aerial cull of 100s of thousands of camels over the next 4 years. The most experienced marksmen cannot possibly shoot a fatal blow from a helicopter to that many camels which will result in many of them suffering for days on end in extreme agony on the ground. The rotting carcasses of the camels left on the ground will pollute the sacred water holes which is worse for the environment than letting the camels live. They are also promoting the eating of camel meat and exporting the camels dead or alive for their meat and milk.
The only humane way to control the camel population is to introduce contraception to these docile animals to prevent them from breeding which mass culling will not do. The cull is also bad for Australian tourism as it is condemned by numerous other countries.
There was an aerial slaughter of 1,500 camels that went ahead secretly in November 2010!
The next slaughter is set to commence in the summer of 2010/2011
To the Hon Ministers Burke and Ludwig,
we the undersigned urge you to halt the cull of 100s of thousands of camels by aerial shooting immediately, the most experienced marksmen cannot shoot a fatal blow to that amount of animals leaving them to die slowly on the ground in agony for days making this the most inhumane form of controlling the camels.
The rotting carcasses of the dead camels left on the ground will pollute the sacred water holes.
We demand a humane form of controlling the camel population by introducing fertility control to the camels to prevent them from breeding and the building of camel proof fencing to keep them out of the towns in which they allegedly destroy.
Culling these docile animals will not only leave their carcasses rotting on the ground and pollute the waterways but also encourage the camels that are left to increase them breeding therefore the problem will be an ongoing one.
We are also outraged at the slaughter of 1,500 camels that secretly took place in November 2010.
sincerely,
The undersigned.
