We have successfully had the WIDB Marker installed on the SIUC campus on the site of the Wight I dorm.
This petition is now closed. I have "archived" it. (I hope you can still see the picture of the installed marker).
WIDB Student Radio began operations on April 12, 1970, from student built studios in the basement of the Wright I dorm on the Southern Illinois University campus in Carbondale, Illinois. The studios were subsequently moved to the Student Center. Later, in 2012, the Wright One Dorm was demolished.
As of 2020, the old Wright Dorm site is just a small, open, grassy area. There is no indication of the site being the original location of WIDB.
This petition info will be collected and presented to authorities at SIUC, as needed, to secure permission to post a historical marker.

September 2021 update: SUCCESS!
Back in late June, a few of us (including Jerry Chabrian, Gary Goldblatt and others) met with Matt Baughman (Assistant to the Chancellor) at SIUC and got permission to have the marker placed on the former Wright I site!! I have posted a picture of the marker as installed on the Wight I site by Dave Tippy (Superintendent of Grounds) in September 2021.
We, the undersigned, support the placing of a historical marker on the site of the original WIDB Student Radio studios, in recognition of 50th anniversary of the creation of WIDB.
