Oppose Downtown Mall Cross Street Closures

Charlottesville’s City Council is being asked to consider closing both E 2nd and W 4th Streets that cross the Downtown Mall. Closing 2nd and 4th Streets would damage businesses that depend on this street access both for parking and for deliveries. Many downtown businesses located on these streets precisely because of easier customer access, and signed long term leases premised on that traffic.

Closing 2nd and 4th Streets would worsen an already troubled parking situation for downtown merchants, and place increased pressure on already overloaded Market Street and Water Street parking garages. Street closure would also increase congestion on both Market and Water Streets, increasing both double parking and illegal parking for deliveries and pickups, simply relocating the alleged safety threat of the Mall crossings to these two already busy streets.

This closure and resulting congestion would reduce the ease with which customers can reach these stores. It would also reduce retail sales volumes to stores located on and near these streets and thereby reduce the sales tax revenues they generate for the City. Reduced retail volume would also tilt the Downtown Mall even more sharply toward being an eating and drinking venue and reduce retail employment at a time when retailers are facing increased threats from online businesses like Amazon.

These crossing streets are vital arteries for commercial traffic in the downtown area, and are a major reason why retail businesses on these streets are successful. If the City wishes to increase safety of these Mall crossings, two attractive options are contrasting brick on the Mall at these two streets, and safety chains crossing the Mall on either side of both streets, both to raise pedestrian awareness of crossing traffic and channel pedestrian cross traffic to the sides of the Mall.

Bring Back and Reopen Mervyn's Clothes Store!

This petition is to get the department clothes store "Mervyn's" reopened again in California and in the United states. Mervyn's was a great store to buy clothes, footware shoes, home items, kitchen items and many other things at the most affordable discount prices.

It had the best clothes, shoes, good quality business, blowout sales, great customer service and awesome locations. Everyone loved shopping at Mervyn's and buying their favorites clothes and shoes there! And then, sadly, Mervyn's finally closed and went out of business in 2008.

Kohl's will never replace Mervyn's and Kohl's is just not as good as Mervyn's was either. Kohl's has terrible service, super expensive prices, overrated clothes, aweful shoes, bad quality and all of the clothes and shoes are mixed up and it's hard to find anything on sales at Kohl's too! But not Mervyn's. Mervyn's always had their fantastic clothes and shoes in order in isle roles and they always had cool sales and affordable discount prices. Kohl's sucks and they need to close Kohl's and bring back Mervyn's in California and in the United States again.

Hopefully, we can close Kohl's are reopen Mervyn's again with new ownership and business management. Some rich person or a billionaire could buy Mervyn's from Target Corporation and Sun Capital Partners and reopen Mervyn's in California and in The United States again with a new owner running the store. And if Mervyn's does reopen again, we should request it to sell 90's and 2000's pop star clothes, pop star shoes and basketball shoes, cool hats, sunglasses, necklaces and jewelry wrist chains for the guys and boys to buy at Mervyn's and look like O' Town, Backstreet Boys, 5ive and *NSYNC again! It can be in one of the isles in Mervyn's.

So with that being said, Mervyn's clothes store really needs to come back and reopen again so that we can all shop at our favorite store again because no one today has a clue were to shop at since Mervyn's went out of business in 2008 and Kohl's just doesn't do it for anyone at all, no one likes Kohl's! So if you want to shop for clothes at your favorite clothes store Mervyn's again, then sign this petition to show Target Corporation and Sun Capital Partners that we all want Mervyn's back again and NOT Kohl's.

Tell everyone about this petition and share it with your family and friends and the public so that we can all bring back Mervyn's California in The United States and in California at the malls and cities again.

P.S. and please sell Mervyn's back to Target Corporation and the Mervin Morris family when Mervyn's re-opens in CA and in the USA again. Thank you.

Sam Bridge Nursery Needs Your Help

Sam Bridge Nursery & Greenhouses is a third generation family business that has been operating in the town of Greenwich, CT for 87 years. Due to excessive pressure from a neighbor, we were issued a cease and desist order from the town of Greenwich Zoning Enforcement Officer. The cease and desist order states that we have a "Landscaping Business Being Run Out of a Permitted Nursery."

According to the town's municipal code book (Division 2, Section 6-5 (11)), a commercial nursery shall mean a place where trees and other plants are grown for sale. Currently, the town does not have a definition for a landscaping business in the municipal code book. Although we find the Zoning Enforcement Officer to be a reasonable person, we believe that his interpretation of the town municipal code for nurseries is incorrect. We also believe that the current land use definition for nurseries, written in the 1940s, is vague and outdated. We will be asking the Zoning Board of Appeals to overturn Mr. Couture's decision and/or to amend our special exception to include landscaping.

When our father started this business in 1930, his business model was to grow and sell plants, plant related products, and services. In 1956 he moved his business from Doubling Road to its present location at 437 North Street. This property has been in our mother's family (Reynolds) for over 300 years and has always been a farm. The nursery and greenhouse business is considered farming; we operate under the Right to Farm Law and our property is assessed as farmland (PA490). Our family would like to keep this property as farmland rather than subdividing into house lots.

As part of running a nursery, we offer landscape design, installation, and garden maintenance services. These services are and have been an important aspect of selling the plants that we grow. These services also include many community outreach and special projects, several that we do free of charge for the town of Greenwich. Some of which are: planting and maintaining traffic islands, planting trees along public roads, growing and hanging the town baskets on Greenwich Avenue and the Post Road. We also work extensively with local community gardens, school groups, and non-profits. We do not cut grass, blow leaves, snow plow, perform masonry, and install lighting and irrigation or other services you would expect from a typical landscape company. We would like to ask for your support to help us overturn the zoning enforcement officer's decision and/or to amend the special exception for Sam Bridge Nursery & Greenhouses to include landscaping.

Bid's Place Retail Liquor License Renewal

Dear Beloved Bid's Place Customers,

It breaks our hearts to tell you that it has been brought to our attention that we are potentially being denied renewal of our liquor license and that our original license was issued on a "temporary basis". Losing this license would mean the end of Archie's and would be financially devastating to us. We want to remain optimistic and refrain from negativity when we beg you for help. We see no other option that to come here and ask for support from the community, our neighbors, friends, and from our beloved Bid's Family and customers.

We humbly ask you to sign this petition if you are a registered voter and any *letter* or other *community support* is GREATLY appreciated. We have to somehow show them that we deserve our liquor license. Thank you all so much for reading, sharing, and helping us in any possible way. Thank you now and always for your continued support of our family business.

Help Arsaga's continue to operate at Washington Regional

We, the undersigned, request that Washington Regional hospital administration please move in a positive direction, and permit Arsaga's Cafe to continue to operate within the hospital as it has for the last 14 years, without imposing new rules.

Washington Regional administration wanted to impose new rules involving dress code on Arsaga's Cafe, which, as an independent business entity, refused. Arsaga's made an honest effort to stay, accepting a series of demands from the hospital one after the other until this one was added.

Arsaga's has been an integral part of the Washington Regional hospital since it was built at its current location. It has operated without trouble and is a familiar and favored place among employees and guests. It is a prominent business establishment in the community at large and part of what makes Fayetteville funky. It cannot be replaced by a cookie cutter Starbucks--or worse, a hospital-run establishment.

The café is a valuable asset to the hospital in which it operates. It provides quality options for both employees and guests of the hospital. Having the café as an alternative shows the community and employees alike that Washington Regional cares. Forcing Arsaga's to leave by imposing demands that were not previously made sends quite a different message.

The very fact that Arsaga's is not directly associated with the hospital and is an autonomous local business is what makes it special. The baristas have a style that is uniquely their own and that separates them from hospital employees. And this is ok. This style is in no manner offensive and is part of the charm of the café and a reflection of the fact that it is an independent business. Arsaga's employees have always been respectful and polite to those they have served.

Arsaga's provides a wonderful spot for employees and guests to enjoy refreshments . The café is an excellent neighbor. Most importantly, both Washington Regional staff and visitors flock to the café because of its quality services. Employees consider it a treat, and many nurses are often gifted an item by colleagues after an especially challenging struggle at work.

We cannot allow the disappearance of this vital establishment. Please consider the points made. We do not want to lose the one place left in the hospital that is appealing to both staff and community alike.

Carl Philips is a local chef who owns the Ti Coin Creole restaurant in Grand Case. He has been at work for over a decade and is thriving through his excellent food and service.

His efforts paid off as he was selected as one of the 50 top restaurants in the Caribbean, #28. This is all wonderful but here is where we can help: Carl needs the stamp of approval from the Office de Tourisme in order to further grow his business, approval that has not been forthcoming for whatever reason.

Save South Cave Village Post Office

The government wants to relocate 4800 sub Post Offices into convenience stores. This would result in the end of the village Post Office as it is known now.

These new "Local" Post Offices as they would be known would only be able to offer a limited service so you would not be able to do all the transactions there that you can at your Post Office now.

We aim to collect as many signatures that we can to stop this and we will present our petition to 10 Downing Street.

We also want to encourage people to please write to your local M.P. about this.
