Last year, 2024, our then-4-year-old son, Makoto, was subjected to prolonged psychological abuse at his daycare center for over six months.
昨年2024年、当時4歳だった私たちの息子マコトは、保育園で6か月以上にわたり心理的虐待を受けました。

He was repeatedly isolated from his peers, denied emotional support, and left alone for long periods.
彼は何度もお友達から隔離され、気持ちを聞いてもらえることもなく、長時間一人ぼっちにされていました。

Despite our repeated pleas based on Makoto’s own words asking for help, the daycare failed to notify or contact the city government.
まことが伝えてくれた「助けて」という言葉を受けて、私たちは何度も懸念を伝えましたが、保育園は行政に相談も報告することもありませんでした。

We have obtained security camera footage and recorded conversations with the daycare principal, chief teacher, and the teacher involved—providing direct evidence of the mistreatment.
私たちは、防犯カメラの映像と、園長・主任保育士・加害保育士との録音を保有しており、これらは虐待を裏付ける直接的な証拠です。

Still, the daycare denies any wrongdoing, has hired a lawyer, and now blames Makoto himself for the isolation—despite never having raised any concerns before.
それでも保育園は非を認めず、弁護士を雇い、今になってまこと本人の行動に問題があったと責任転嫁しています。以前は一切そのような話はありませんでした。

The daycare's actions appear to violate Japan’s obligations under the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

New Zealand cosmetic standards list IPBC as not to be used in preparations for children under 3 (except below certain levels in bath products, shower gels and shampoo) and the European Union has banned IPBC use in oral hygiene and lip care products.

Several leading supermarkets in New Zealand have removed baby wipes containing IPBC and yet it is still sold in Australia in products which come into direct contact with an infant's skin from birth.

We believe the Welsh Government should act now to change the law on the physical punishment of children.

Currently parents charged with common assault or battery can legally use the defence in court that their actions were ‘reasonable punishment’.

This means that children have less protection under the law than adults when those who are supposed to care for them hurt them.

The National Assembly has advocated for a change in the law for over 12 years - now that the Welsh Government has the power to make that change, it should act.

The Gender-based Violence, Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence (Wales) Bill is the right opportunity to change the law.

The Welsh Government must put children’s rights and wellbeing first by acting now.

Iranian Judge Returns Severely Abused 4 Year Old to Abusive Parents

Iran Human Rights, May 19: A judge in Tehran has decided to hand over Nima, a 4 years old boy who has been subjected to severe physical abuse, back to his abusive father, reported the Iranian state run news agency ISNA today.

The report said: "Nima, is a four years old boy in Tehran, and the second victim of child abuse [who received media attention] in the past month. Yesterday, and only ten days after he was taken to the Mofid Children’s hospital, he was released and delivered to his abusive father."

"Nima suffered injuries from severe beatings from his parents who burned various parts of his body including his genitals and caused deep bruising around his eyes. He was transfered to the hospital on May 8th. Upon arrival at the hospital, Nima told the staff that his father had burned his body" said the report.

Mostafa Eghlima, the President of the Academic Association of Social Workers in Iran told ISNA, “According to the law, a father may refer to the Judiciary any time he wishes to collect his child.” He added, “Even though the legal proceedings have allowed for Nima to return to his father, we must [know] how the presiding Judge came to the decision that the father is qualified to care for Nima.”

According to paragraph 220 of Iran’s Islamic Penal Code, if the father or father’s father kills his child or grandchild, he will not be punished for murder. Physical punishment by a parent is permitted in Iranian law.

Mr Hinch has been charged with five offences after allegedly naming a pair of sex offenders in breach of Victorian County Court suppression orders.

The high-profile broadcaster has taken his case to the High Court, arguing the orders are constitutionally invalid.

Mr Hinch said he believed what he did was morally right and was now set to argue that before the court.

The centre provides much needed respite to special needs children and their families in Fife.

Fife Council announced the closure of the centre in their budget (Feb 2012) without consultation with families or staff at the centre. The families and staff found out about the closure via the Fife Herald.

We believe this action by the council is a disgrace and an insult to the staff and families that use the facility.

The children use Eden Park regularly. It's staff and the service are an invaluable asset to the families. The centre affords not only the children respite but parents & carers respite at home too. The children interact with other children in a safe and friendly environment that would not otherwise be afforded.

Connect have leased a residential property on Maire Road and intend to obtain a resource consent to run a short term, acute service for people suffering from mental health issues.

Four to five patients will stay for a maximum of 10 days for short term support and treatment; patients COULD POTENTIALLY be ex offenders, severe and violent personality disorders and possibly unregistered sex offenders.

This is not a lockdown facility and will be staffed 24 hours a day with a registered nurse on between 8am to 8pm.

The site is on the boundary of a primary school and is on the direct walking route to the school; it is directly across the road from a daycare facility and within a 2 min walk to the bottle shop and gambling facility on Grand Drive.

Connect are saying that this poses no significant risk to the residents or the children, however they are unable to provide more in-depth information regarding the service nor provide evidence that our children will be safe.

We feel it is utterly irresponsible to have such a facility next to a primary school and daycare. No matter how small the potential risk, this proposal is extremely short sighted and could potentially put our innocent children at risk.

We are sympathetic to the needs of the people requiring such facilities and agree this service is required; however we do oppose the proposed location.

My son Harrison who is 6, suffered an Acquired Brain Injury in Jan 2011 after developing Meningoencephalitis.

As a result Harrison has been left with:

Severe acquired brain injury
Mild intellectual disability
Fine/Gross motor delay
Severe speech and language disorder
Epilepsy, and
Narcolepsy with Partial Cataplexy secondary to his brain injury.

My husband is in the Defence Force and has been deployed overseas for approximately 12 out of the last 18 months so that we were able to afford the steep medical costs incurred as a result of Harry's illness. Extensive waiting lists in our public sector forced us to fund in total Harry's rehabilitation costs which included:

Speech Therapy
Occupational Therapy
Physiotherapy
Medications
Hospitalisations
Testing
Early Intervention Therapy
Inclusive Education, the list is on-going and relentless!

Research suggests persons with brain injuries incur a higher rate of addiction, therefore, feeding amphetamines (Which is the first line treatment for Narcolepsy) to a 6 year old across his lifetime has the potential not only to create addiction but cause long term damage to his body, as well as disrupt his epilepsy, this is not a suitable option for a first line medication!

The medication at present initial doses 200mg/day equates to $170 per 30 days, or $2068 per year which will increase to approx $4136 per year at the standard recommended dose of 400mg/day. In total this across his lifetime (approx 78 years given the average lifespan of an Australian Male) could mean an expense of nearly $300 000!

Westmead Childrens Hospital pharmacy staff agreed to subsidise this medication and this was confirmed and an outpatient script was sent to myself, however, when I submitted this for processing on Tuesday 7 August an amendment was required for the dosage level. I left the script in the care of the Pharmacy staff awaiting a follow up. When I rang on Thursday and spoke to staff the amendment was not done and we were subsequently informed that normal practices for authorising medication had not been conducted and they would not issue my son his medication. Kindly, I was given advice to find other channels of support, for example the media or social welfare! You could only imagine my heartache and dismay at this situation!

We have already paid for the first couple of months for our son and it has been truly amazing! And we have noticed the following benefits:

Less fatigue
Improved Behaviours with reduced Impulsivity/Disinhibition
Improved Communication
Social Skills
Concentration
Improved cognition

I can't begin to tell you what this medication has done for our son and our family, our Dr expressed that this medication could indeed mark a turning point in Harry's very complex Narcolepsy and Brain Injury outlook, in particular with behaviour and cognition. But how can an average single income family in Sydney continue with this level of expense when we have a healthcare system that is meant to be designed to support our community?

The most absurd part of this is that we have funded everything privately and personally at every turn so that he has the opportunity to become a tax paying citizen, however PBS cutbacks would rather save money, than give him the medication that could help enable him to lead a normal, fulfilling life rather than that of a life long disability support pensioner!

We have sold our home, sent my husband overseas with the Defence Force to serve our country, leaving my children and I minus an integral support, all so that we can continue to provide for our sons medical, schooling and living costs and for that of his 3 siblings. We have used our private health insurance always to reduce the financial burden on the public health care system, but it would seem that despite our efforts no one wants to help my family!

I hope that by bringing this to your attention will enable you to help Harry to get his long term medication accepted through the PBS, so that he has an opportunity to achieve all that he is possible of achieving and so that he has the right to a choice in his future and not be pushed aside!
