Equality for BAME and International staff at QUB

This petition relates to the introduction of a new online system for reclaiming staff expenses at Queen's University Belfast named QFIS. The system allows for pounds, dollars and euros to be entered and any required currency conversions to be made automatically. However it excludes all other currencies placing the onus on staff to make their own calculations and provide screenshots of each conversion. This places a significant additional burden on BAME and international staff working in many other countries outside of the EU and the US, affecting such staff disproportionately.

Such a practice is patently opposed to:
i. Principles of equality enshrined in the university own policies.
ii. Principles of global justice in which some nations and currencies carry disproportionate influence over others especially those of the global south in which the majority of the world's population may be found.
iii. Research in areas outside of the EU-US sphere.

BAME and International staff have objected to this practice and raised the matter internally. However the University Finance directorate has so far refused to review the system despite the matter being raised by I-rise (BAME and International staff group) and UCU.

Support the Sea Port of Cairns, Australia. Our port, our city, our future.

Let the politicians and their advisers know we support the Cairns Shipping Development Project that can sustainably open up one of Australia's most beautiful ports to more cruise shipping and vessels that service our region.

We love the Great Barrier Reef, our stunning beaches, the Atherton Tablelands, Port Douglas, Daintree, Innisfail and want to share it with others.

The Port of Cairns, developed over 100 years, underpins jobs, businesses and investments. Support the Cairns Shipping Development project by submitting a petition to the Queensland State Government Coordinator General.

Please bring a Big W to Ulladulla!

In 2009 the following petition was posted online and in local businesses, and got over 1000 signatures (Big W for Ulladulla Petition), it was submitted and the proposal was denied. In time Franklins Ulludulla suffered and has closed its doors.

Many unemployed and now a vacant building. The town has gained little from the Woolworths project.

I would now like Big W and Woolworths Ltd consider taking over the Franklins building and giving Ulludulla a go with a Big W, even if it is a scaled down version and be a Big W Country.

Keep Australian jobs here!

TO THE HONOURABLE THE SPEAKER AND MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES ASSEMBLED IN THE AUSTRALIAN PARLIAMENT:

This petition of certain citizens of Australia draws to the attention of the House the analysis of Australian labour market trends undertaken by the National Institute of Economic and Industry Research (NIEIR) which found 850,000 jobs in the services sector, or 1 in 10 jobs, are at risk of being off-shored over the next 2 decades. In banking and financial services, businesses are being reorganised in such a way that Australian staff will be/are being made redundant, because the work they perform/ed in Australia for their employer will be performed offshore, in countries with substantially lower labour costs, by either a third party service provider or an owned subsidiary.

Your petitioners point out to the House that the loss of these jobs from Australia is bad for the Australian economy and of grave consequence for the workers and communities affected by the changes.

Your petitioners further point out that we harbour serious concerns for the security of the very sensitive personal data of Australian customers that must accompany these jobs to other countries where Australian privacy and data protection laws have no jurisdiction.
