Stop EU proposed trials on humans without consent! Stop forslag i EU om forsøg på mennesker uden samtykke!

DANSK VERSION KLIK PÅ DETTE LINK: EU-forsøgudensamtykke

DEFEND YOUR RIGT TO DECIDE OVER YOUR BODY AND LIFE WHEN HOSPITALIZED!

(new information is added to the text) A new bill** in the EU will abolish the directive* that protects the patient´s right to prior and free consent to trials with new medicine in emergency situations. Instead `subsequent consent´is proposed, meaning: The doctor can use emergency patients for a medicinal trial. And only a f t e r a patient regains consciousness will he be asked for consent to the trial. This is absurd and a violation of civil rights!

The bill is now being negotiated in the European Parliament. Due to the powerful lobbying of the pharmaceutical industry it will most likely be adopted in the first half of 2014 unless the citizens of Europe voice their protest!

Physicians are obliged to respect a patient's decision not to participate in trials. Each member State in the EU should therefore set up an electronic register, where citizens in advance can give their yes or no to participating in trials in cases of emergency.

This will enable doctors at the hospitals to check a patient's decision on the screen within a few minutes, and the citizen’s personal rights will be safeguarded.

**Proposal for a Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council, on clinical trials on medicinal products for human use, and repealing Directive 2001/20/EC

* Directive 2001/20/EC –on Good Clinical practice.

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked for Europe

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor was an excellent and unusual SRPG developed by Atlus for the DS, gaining great acclaim for its orginality and accesability. But the game was never released in Europe (in part due to the DS' region-free nature).

SMT: Devil Survivor Overclocked is an enhanced and remastered version of this game for the upcoming 3DS. It now has improved graphics and character portraits, full voice acting, and an additional 8th chapter.

This game will be released in America this Summer, but yet has no European release planned. And as the 3DS is region-locked, importation is not an option.

This petition is to ask European JRPG publisher Ghostlight Games (who have previously publsihed other SMT games and will be publishing Persona 3 Portable later this year) to seriously consider publishing SMT: Devil Survivor Overclocked in Europe.

Get The EBU / CMC Entertainment A/S to release recent Eurovision Song Contests on Blu-ray

Since 2007 the Eurovision Song Contests have been both recorded and broadcast in high definition. Some sources state that the 2006 contest was also recorded in high definition, though it was only broadcast in standard definition. The contests have, though, only ever been available to buy on standard definition DVD (unfortunately, only the 2004 contest onwards) and CD.

I think that the recent contests (all those recorded in high definition) should be released on Blu-ray in high definition (1080/50i) like the broadcasts, particularly since the vast majority of TVs on sale in Europe are either HD-ready or Full HD, with many European consumers owning HDTVs.

I also think the earlier contests should be made available on Blu-ray too. Even the ones recorded in standard definition, since this will:-

A) Allow for better picture and sound quality, since Blu-ray can use much higher bitrates than DVD. They can also be encoded up-scaled to again increase the quality (by storing the SD contests up-scaled, more colour samples and smaller macroblocks can also be used, leading to better PQ) when viewed on modern HDTVs.

B) It will allow multiple contests shot in standard definition to be put onto one Blu-ray disc instead of lots of DVDs.

C) It will allow for use of extra features that Blu-ray supports that DVD doesn't. eg. It will allow for stored playlists of songs for a particular contest or playlists that span multiple contests.

In Defense of Free Movement of Persons in the European Union

The free movement of persons is a fundamental right guaranteed to European Union (EU) citizens by the Treaties. It is realised through the area of freedom, security and justice without internal borders.

Lifting internal borders requires strengthened management of the Union’s external borders as well as regulated entry and residence of non-EU nationals, including through a common asylum and immigration policy.

The concept of free movement of persons came about with the signing of the Schengen Agreement in 1985 and the subsequent Schengen Convention in 1990, which initiated the abolition of border controls between participating countries. Being part of the EU legal and institutional framework, Schengen cooperation has gradually been extended to include most EU Member States as well as some non-EU countries.

Bring D to Europe

Ask the EBU/NRK to record the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest in the 1080p50 format

Since 2007 the Eurovision Song Contest has been recorded and broadcast in high definition (the 2006 contest might also have been recorded in high definition but only broadcast in SD).

The contests recorded in HD have so far been in the 1080i/25 format. While this is a high quality format, it is not as good a format as the 1080p50 format that the EBU recommend for production and broadcasting.

Recording this event in the high quality 1080p50 format would overcome the limitations of the 1080i/25 format (resolution, interlace artefacts, etc.), while future-proofing the production and will look the best on today's full HDTVs, and as the EBU have said, broadcasts in the 1080p50 format would not require higher bitrates than those in the 1080i/25 format.

Recording this major event (the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest) in 1080p50 would not only mean the event was recorded in one of the highest quality TV formats currently available, and making the production more future-proof, it should also help to encourage other broadcasters (EBU members) to start producing/broadcasting in this high quality, EBU-recommended format.

The following EBU document discusses the 1080p50 format and details it's advantages (including higher quality) over other TV formats used for European productions:
http://tech.ebu.ch/docs/testmaterial/ibc09_10things_1080p50.pdf

In the following article entitled "Act Now for 1080p50", the project manager of the EBU also states the advantages of the format:

European Union, please raise the Uyghurs' plight at the UN Human Rights Council meeting in March 2010

The Uyghur people are indigenous to East Turkestan [also known as the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR) of China]. For many years, the Chinese government has waged an intense and often brutal campaign to repress all forms of Uyghur dissent, crack down on Uyghurs' peaceful religious activities and independent expressions of ethnicity, dilute Uyghurs' culture and identity as a distinct people, and threaten the survival of the Uyghur language. The authorities have routinely equated peaceful political, religious, and cultural activities with the "three evils" – terrorism, separatism and religious extremism. The authorities have also economically marginalized the Uyghurs in East Turkestan through intense and blatant racial discrimination in employment.

This is a petition addressed to two European Union officials: John Clarke, Acting Head of the Permanent Delegation of the European Union to the International Organisations in Geneva; and Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of the European Commission. The petition asks the EU to raise -- during the United Nations Human Rights Council meeting in March -- the Chinese authorities' brutal suppression of a peaceful Uyghur protest on July 5, 2009; and the grave human rights violations that the authorities committed during -- and have committed in the aftermath of -- the protest and the ethnic unrest in July 2009, which have included, but have not been limited to, arbitrary detentions, enforced disappearances, arbitrary sentencing of individuals to death after trials plagued with politicization and intense strangleholds on due process, and arbitrary executions.

The UN Human Rights Council meets three times each year at the UN in Geneva, Switzerland, with the next meeting being held in March 2010. The meeting has a general debate portion when each member State and observer State, as well as the European Union and other intergovernmental organizations, have the opportunity to take the floor and raise human rights issues of concern and we are asking the European Union to raise the issues outlined above and in the petition below as matters of concern.
