BAN THE PRODUCTION AND DISTRIBUTION OF PORNOGRAPHY IN AUSTRALIA

Australian citizens are suffering from the harm of pornography. It ruins families, relationships and individuals.

Not only is it unavoidable for even children to see, but its impossible for anyone to get away from. It's in the supermarkets, the DVD store, the internet, movies, just about everywhere!

Pornography does not only suppress women by titles such as "virgin girl gets gang banged", but it is ruining to individuals self esteem, and is toxic within relationships which leads to tearing families and people apart. There is so much emotional trauma that women go through from the effects of pornography.

It is time the government stops turning a blind eye to the hundreds of thousands of people that suffer from this industry. The government has the power to turn this around and should do immediately.

Sexual violence is rampant in Guyana. Every year, in community after community, hundreds of Guyanese women and children suffer from rape, abuse, domestic violence, sexual harassment, and other forms of gender based violence. Adding to this tragedy is the fact that in the vast majority of cases, the victims of these heinous crimes do not receive any justice; for example, in 2011 only one rapist was successfully prosecuted.

While there are a variety of factors that contribute to this epidemic of sexual violence, the influence of music and entertainment on shaping societal values and attitudes cannot be discredited.

Individuals who shamelessly abuse children and songs that advocate violence against women help to create a culture where rape, exploitation of children, and violence are seen as ‘normal’. This is not entertaining; as a matter of fact, it’s extremely disturbing. This is not our culture, nor the kind of society we want to live in.

Stop LIME "A yah suh nice" endorsing gender violence

LIME is currently running a promotion with its name taken from the title of the song "A yah suh Nice" by Potential Kidd. This promo is targeted at High Schools. http://www.lime.com/jm/news/promotions.jsp

The lyrics to the song however are highly misogynistic and homophobic. The words convey the idea that being a rapist (of women) is preferable to being gay.

Lyrics may be found here (please turn off the volume on your computer as they are highly offensive)

The British Government are planning on allowing Gay-Marriage's in Britain. The national religion of Britain is Christianity and if Gay Marriage is legalised in the UK it would be at odds with the national religion.

Many Christians believe marriage to be holy and should only be between a man and a woman.

Middle Temple Nursery

The Honourable Society of the Middle Temple (one of the four Inns of Court) is considering a proposal to use part of its premises, formerly home to a wine bar, as a site for a nursery. This would be available for use by all barristers and staff of the four Inns, and would be paid for by the parents using it. It is unlikely that another suitable site will come up in the foreseeable future.

Middle Temple's Executive Committee have agreed to oppose this idea, on the grounds that they may be able to earn more rental income if the space is used in other ways. The Benchers of the Inn will meet to decide on the proposal on June 22nd 2010.

End politically motivated violence against women in Zimbabwe

In 2008, it is estimated that more than 2000 women of all ages were abducted, raped, tortured, and beaten across Zimbabwe for their political affiliations. Local police have said they don't handle political cases and have ignored these women's pleas for protection and justice. There has also not been any attempt to address these crimes at the national level.

Help ensure that the Zimbabwean government ends politically motivated violence against women, put a stop to impunity for these crimes, and bring the perpetrators to justice as stipulated in both SADC Protocol on Gender and Development and the Zimbabwe Global Political Agreement (GPA).

Including Girls Soccer Teams in Ethiopian Sports Federation of North America

In 2008, America is ready to elect a president that’s a woman or black. However, Ethiopians have struggled for five years to include girls teams in a male dominated Ethiopian Sport Federation in North America (ESFNA). Men’s teams have enjoyed playing soccer for 25 years.

ESFNA is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization founded in 1984 to promote amateur soccer and cultural events within the Ethiopian community in the North America. One of its goals includes providing positive role models for the youth.

The focus of the main event is the men’s soccer tournament. It should be renamed Ethiopian Men’s Soccer Federation in North America (EMSFNA). It contains no girls’ team and the only sport is soccer. The federation doesn’t promote sports to the community year-round. Perhaps, we should create a new organization known as the Ethiopian Women’s Soccer Federation in North America (EWSFNA)

ESFNA, is refusing to include girls and not appreciating the efforts Future Generation African Girls Association has been doing to include girls.

The documentary film production tells the Ewnete (means the truth in Ethiopia) story when our team of girls wanted to be included. The news paper article told our story more than once.

While visiting an Ethiopian festival in Washington, D.C.,
Anisa Adem's daughters watched the men and boys playing soccer. The year wasn't 1970 or any year before Title IX, which provided girls with equal opportunities in sports activities where the organization or education program received Federal funds.

It was 2001 when Adem's American-born daughter asked, "Mommy, why is it that we can't play soccer? Because I see all men – I don't see any women. Is it our culture, or is it Islam?"

Shortly after, Adem put together a girls' soccer team in hopes they would compete in the Annual Ethiopian Sports Federation of North America tournament in Houston. The federation had 27 teams, all men. Adem started two girls' teams and designed their uniforms so they represent the Ethiopian flag. They went to Houston for the tournament only to discover they weren't on the schedule.

The experience motivated Adem to create a non-profit organization to empower girls. She started the Roba Ethiopian American Girls Soccer Association, named after a famous female Ethiopian athlete, Fatima Roba. They prepared for the next tournament, which was in Seattle. The organization has since been renamed as the Future Generation African Girls Association.

The Ethiopian community and the Mayor of Plano supported the organization. Mayor Pat Evans helped the group with publicity and fundraising. The group raised enough funds to cover the expenses of 46 people making the trip to Seattle.

But the story changed upon their arrival. They discovered the girl’s team would have to play a team made up mostly of boys and their game wasn't at the prime time of 3:00 pm as the federation had originally scheduled. Instead, they were to play at 10:00 am, two hours before the other soccer matches started.

The Ethiopian Sport Federation in North America Association held its 25th annual soccer tournament in the Washington DC during the week of July 4th in 2008.
Girls soccer Tournament was scheduled for the first time in the history of the Ethiopian Sports Federation for 25th years.

Will the Girls teams will be part of ESFNA 27 men teams or just for the show. Do we continue the tradition of shunning a girl's team or make strides? Although the Ethiopian girls and women have enthusiastically supported the tournament, the focus of the main event is the men's soccer tournament. There are 27 men's teams and no women's teams. Furthermore, the organization's board members consist of all men.

Save Carrie's on High

Carrie's Place Women's & Children's Services Inc. in the Lower Hunter Region provides accommodation and support to women and children in domestic violence.

Carrie's Place Refuge has to turn away 9 out of 10 families due to lack of accommodation.

During the last financial year this equaled 522 women and 633 children, an increase of 22% in one year alone.

Because of its crisis accommodation shortage, three years ago Carrie's Place established an outreach centre called Carrie's on High. This centre provides access to a wide range of support programs, helping women to plan their exit from an abusive relationship and build a safe and secure future for them and their children or to develop safety strategies while remaining in their relationships.

Carrie's on High's success rate is second to none; its service delivery model has won many awards. Just last week, the service received a prize and a Certificate of Merit in the Australian Crime Prevention Awards 2007. It is the only service of its kind in the area and has become 'the hub' for victims of domestic violence in the Lower Hunter and beyond.

For three years, Carrie's on High received a small amount of money from the NSW Department of Community Services to ensure that women and children escaping domestic violence had a place they could turn to for help. Funding ceased on the 30th of September this year and all appeals for further funding to DOCS and the NSW Minister for Community Services have failed. Although, last year Carrie's Place was told by the previous Minister for Community Services that funding would be made available from the regional DOCS office, their request to the regional office has been denied.

The Lower Hunter Region is the fastest growing inland area in NSW, at the same time it is the most under-serviced area in the Hunter and Central Coast region while it has the highest incidence rate of domestic violence.

Local police attend about 350 incidents per month; this is more than 5 every day. Current police statistics reveal that out of 80 commands in NSW, Maitland ranks:

No 1 in domestic violence assaults
No 1 in domestic violence sexual assaults
No 1 in breaches of ADVOs
No 1 in domestic violence related malicious damage
No 2 in domestic violence related suicide / self harm
No 4 in domestic homicide.

If domestic violence is a crime, do victims, who make up these statistics, have a right to support services?

The Australian government's T.V. campaign advertises:
" To Violence against women Australia says No"

Lets not settle for just lip service!

Stop Intersex Gender Discrimination in INDIA

This is a story of a 22 years old patient from Tribal Area of ORRISA who was born to less educated parents in remote area and reared as Female in early life.

She passed all her exams in both her school and graduation level.

She applied for a job in CISF as a female candidate and luckily got selected for the job. After selection, she started her training in the training college.

During training, abnormality of genital was noted by examining doctors, who referred her case to detailed examination to bigger hospital. During her examination, detailed ultrasound revealed absence of uterus. She was referred to AIIMS, New Delhi for expert opinion.

After expert opinion, she was asked to leave the training as her selection was cancelled on the grounds that she applied as female while her generic sex was 46 XY, which was consistent with males.

The question that arises here is that had CISF appointed an individual, or are had they appointed an assembly of head, chest, abdomen, a pair of eyes, a pair of ears, mouth, breasts (or the absence of it as per their specifications) and a set of NORMAL genitals?

The new rules that permit transsexual athletes to compete in the Olympics after having completed sex reassignment surgery, being legally recognized as a member of the target sex, and having undergone two years of hormonal therapy-unquote. Same criteria could be applied to this girl. If She as a man later fails to qualify the stipulated physical tests, it could be still justified to sack him then.
