Media coverage of the Genocide in Darfur

For years now it has been hailed the next Rwanda. A silent war between the Arabs and Non-Arabs in the Darfur region of the Sudan has just come to the attention of Canada, but not nearly enough is being done.

This subject needs extensive media coverage to educate the population. Without it, the world may remain ignorant to this genocide and the people of Darfur will be put through a massacre that no one should ever be subjected too.

This petition is to bring awareness to the subject. Please help the effort and tell everyone you know to sign.

Accept and broadcast Dr. Piazza's Gun Commercial

Dr. Ignatius Piazza is the proprietor of First Sight Firearms Training Institute. He wanted to run a commercial on Premier National Radio offering a free Gun to those who chose to participate in his very Bona Fide and worthwhile offer.

Premier would not accept the commercial with the word "gun" but would accept the word, "gift". This is the same radio network who has such luminaries as Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Glenn Beck, all of whom support Second Amendment Rights.

In Dr. Piazza's own words, "Can you believe this hypocrisy? Premiere Radio Network, makes a fortune off millions of listeners who believe the hosts they are listening to don't just "talk the talk" of conservative values but also "walk the walk" and yet when I place the word "Gun" in an ad with a proven track record of delivering over 3,000 courses and guns to responsible American citizens across this country, Premiere Radio Network refuses it!"

Bring Back Nancy Wood As Daybreak Host

From September 2009 – February 2010, veteran journalist and professional radio host, Nancy Wood, was the morning host of Daybreak on CBC Radio One. She was pulled from her dream job as host chair without any announcement to the radio audience. Even after a month there is still no official announcement from the CBC management about this terrible situation.

Nancy was born and raised in Montreal. She was the host of CBC Montreal’s Radio Noon for nine years and often contributed to Daybreak. She worked as a television news reporter for CBC Newsworld and CBC News: The National since 2005. She is experienced, extremely personable, works well with the morning team and understands the Quebec audience.

More Liberal/Progressive San Jose Mercury News Op-Ed Contributors

Democracy Needs Fair Media, a Santa Clara County based organization promoting media accountability, analyzed San Jose Mercury News Op-Eds (articles opposite the editorial) for four months.

This analysis reveals that there were about four times more conservative than liberal and progressive Op-Eds from regular contributors. The top two contributors were Pat Buchanan and George Will, while progressive and liberal regular contributors were vastly under-represented.

A set of Vision and Value statements guides the San Jose Mercury News. The values speak of fairness, and say the newspaper strives to present all points of view. It says, "We will reflect the diversity of the audiences we serve, including viewpoints...".

In the spirit of the newspapers worthy Values and Promises statements, we urge more balance in the choice of guest columnists for Op-Ed editorials.

Take Back the Airwaves! Community Reclaim 88.1 FM!

CKLN 88.1 FM is a community radio station broadcasting from the Ryerson University downtown campus in Toronto, Canada. This campus and community radio station has been in operation since 1983.

For 25 years this alternative media outlet has served as a key point of dissemination of independent and grassroots news, views, music and culture in this diverse city. Within the past year many organizational and structural changes have taken place which have been non-inclusive, non-transparent and in violation of the governing by-laws.

In response, community members, volunteer staff and students came together and organized a Special General Meeting carried out on February 23, 2008 which resulted in the removal of the non-student members of the CKLN Board of Directors as well as the dismissal of their contested and controversial appointed managers Mike Phillips and Tony Barnes.

In retaliation for said meeting and member-led volunteer and community elections, about 25 CKLN volunteer programmers have been locked out of their programs since early May of 2008. Many of these dedicated and long standing volunteers received a one paragraph letter from Mike Phillips discharging them from the station stating that "their services were no longer needed".

The petition below is to Ms. Paula Boutis from Iler & Campbell, legal counsel for CKLN Inc., asking her to cease representation of the dismissed management and removed board members and to start fulfilling her duties on the side of the legitimately elected board members.

Favourite Shows of Southern Cross Viewers

In early 2008 Channel Ten Australia began a second service known as Ten HD.

In order to promote this service, Ten moved several shows to the new service for "exclusive" viewing. These shows are listed below:

- The Shield
- Veronica Mars
- Smallville
- Battlestar Galactica
- Journeyman
- The 4400

Since the start of this petition, other shows have been moved to 10HD:

- Torchwood
- Psych
- Monk
- Sporting events such as Nascar, F1 and NFL

And even some first-run shows such as Eureka and Friday Night Lights.

Unfortunately, Channel Ten's affiliate regional station, Southern Cross, was not able to set up its multi-casting HD systems in time and so regional viewers of these shows are unable to see them in any legal format.

While these shows are not high-rating in Australia, they have a very loyal fan base and many regional viewers are feeling discriminated against by being forced to miss these shows.

Bring Back West Midlands Mr Soul Mike Hollis

It would be really appreciated if you would sign this petition I have organised in an effort to get Mike Hollis's Soul Show reinstated on Smooth Radio.

Mike and a number of other presenters across the country lost their jobs a couple of weeks ago due to Smooth now networking many of the programmes from London or Manchester. Mike had a weekly Monday to Friday show 8 p.m. until midnight and also an outstanding Soul Show on Saturdays 5 p.m. til 8 p.m. which had a fantastic following. Listeners were not even told that the show was finishing. Andy Peebles is now networking the show across the UK.

I am aware that lots of people across the UK listened into Mike's Soul Show. Mike previously worked on BRMB before moving to Radio Luxembourg, where in fact he aired the last ever programme on Radio Luxembourg, he has since worked on Radio Shropshire; Capital Gold; Jazz FM; Saga and Smooth. If you feel you can help that would be great - it would be wonderful if I could get thousands of signatures from across the UK and hopefully some from abroad from those who listened to Mike via the Internet.

With my grateful thanks to you for your assistance in this matter.

Dignity and Respect for the Filipino Worker

<font size=2">There is now a significant Filipino population in the United Kingdom. Over the past twenty years, the number of Filipinos living and working in the UK has increased by more than 833% from roughly 18,000 in 1986 to more than 150,000 by 2006. Of this number, about 70% live in Greater London area.

The Filipino community works in a variety of sectors, ranging from IT, aviation, education, hospitality sector (hotels, restaurants and casinos) and healthcare, chefs, and house managers. Increasingly, Filipinos have been recruited to the UK in significant numbers. Over the past five years, thousands have been recruited for the hospitality and healthcare sectors.

Perhaps the Filipino community is best known for the contribution it makes to the healthcare sector. Filipino nurses are consistently recognized for their high standards of professionalism. In the past eight years, more than 45,000 Filipinos were recruited into the health service, most of whom are nurses serving in the National Health Service while the remainder are working in the independent healthcare sector – mostly in private nursing homes.

Equally well received are the thousands of domestic workers who are housekeepers, cleaners and nannies. They are often employed by the members of the British establishment. Young professional women entrust their children to be looked after by Filipina nannies. Filipino domestic workers are well known to be hard-working, trustworthy and responsible.

Almost all of these domestic helpers are well educated with most of them having a degree-qualification as their background. Hence their high-demand as preferred employees by various sectors of the international society living in London.

A survey conducted amongst a limited sample of Filipinos living in the UK at present yielded some interesting findings:

65% of Filipinos are nurses and/or in the allied medical fields.
More than 10% are in domestic service.
A growing number of entrepreneurs of about 5%.
10-20% of the second-generation youths has gone to university or are still finishing university courses. Some of them have also become known as 'celebrities' due to their high profiles as models, actresses or musicians.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THIS MESSAGE TO ALL?

"On 26 September 2008 at 9 p.m., BBC 1 aired the comedy series Harry and Paul starring Harry Enfield and Paul Whitehouse. The opening scene showed Paul seated on a chair on his front lawn, while still in his pyjamas. A young Asian-looking female was shown gyrating in front of him in a lascivious manner. The postman arrived to ask Harry, Paul's friend, what was going on. Harry told him that he is trying to see if his ‘Filipina maid' can seduce Paul who obviously looks depressed.

Harry then continued to shout instructions to the young girl and to Paul to 'hump' the Filipino maid. He remained unmoved while the girl even played with his hair. On further instructions from Harry, she continued to gyrate sexually in front of Paul. Harry then instructed the maid to 'present her rear' which she did while wiggling her bottom in a seductive manner. The maid did not succeed in seducing Paul as he got up from his chair to go to his house. Harry shouted at the girl in an angry voice to leave as she was useless in doing her job. The girl walked towards the pavement looking upset. While walking on the pavement, the postman looked at her in a leering way and followed her. After catching up with her, he was shown to be whispering in her right ear and the girl then walked off with the postman."

While the BBC series did have a warning that the contents of the show may be of an offensive nature and has been rated 16, this particular sketch is completely disgraceful, distasteful and a great example of gutter humour. The sketch reflected insensitivity on the part of the producers and the British Broadcasting Corporation who did not seem to worry that by particularly naming the girl as a 'Filipina maid' and with her employer ordering her to openly behave in a lascivious manner toward the neighbour on the front lawn of a house where the public can watch what she was doing, was tantamount to racism and worst sexual abuse and exploitation of the hapless young Filipina domestic worker employee.
