Support relocation of Lidl in Shirley

Lidl UK have made a planning application (application number 17/01206/FUL) to relocate their existing store in Shirley on from 355 Shirley Road to 392 Shirley Road to provide a new store with improved ancillary areas which will run more efficiently and provide an improved offering to local residents.

The new foodstore will provide 1,655m² of sales floorspace and gross internal area of 2,480m². The store will benefit from 125 free customer parking bays. The existing Shirley store has a sales area of 991m², gross internal area of 1,323m² and 72 parking bays.

The proposed relocation site comprises 3 parcels of land - the former police station, the former council depot and the former Direct Carpets unit on the corner of Villiers Road and Shirley Road. The proposed new contemporary building will be designed with crisp clean lines. The proposed materials palette includes aluminium rainscreen cladding panels set above white textured rendered walls with contrasting pillars and plinth. The shop front will have full height glazing with floor to ceiling windows wrapping around to the entrance lobby and will face directly on to the high street.

The 4 existing trees on the site, 3 of which are protected are proposed for removal, but 15 new semi mature trees will be planted including a tree lined Villiers Road boundary.

There will be a single vehicular access/ egress point on Villiers Road. All plans are available on our website, for which the address is above.

With a larger sales area, back of house areas and car park, the customer experience would be greatly improved, with better stock availability, freshness and a customer W/C.

We encourage you to sign the petition to give us the best chance of obtaining planning consent.

The People of Akwukwu Igbo Protest Acquisition of Land by Ranoil

I want to call on all Akwukwu Igbo citizens - men, women, Chiefs, professionals, both at home and in the diaspora.. Some Akwukwu Igbo citizens are planning on contracting 3000 hectares (30,000,000 square meters/322,917,313 square feet) of Akwukwu Igbo land from Umu Ekeke, Ogbe Oniha, Ogbe Ani and Ogbe Iyase to the State Government with Rainoil as the investor.
We must stop this! I personally don't belong to one of those Ogbe's but my brothers and sisters, as the Odogwu of Akwukwu Igbo, this is 3000 hectares of AKWUKWU IGBO LAND and it can't happen. We must do what is necessary to stop this unjustifiedland grabbers.
Most of us comment out of pity and emotion, without first hand information. Please call your people at home or ask questions on certain issues.
The issue with our Youths is very appaulling. The "Two-Two" cult thing has eaten deep into them. The Police have their hands full. The cult members and Obi's illegal "Task Force" are exploiting Akwukwu Igbo citizens and their visitors both in town and in camps. HRM Obi Azuka is my Cousin, but I can't support evil and such wrong doings. He knows, hence he is trying to stop me. I can't be stopped and you should not be stopped either. I am personally pledging N100k towards the legal process and publications to fight this. If Illah people were successful in securing their land from the State Govt. We can stop these land grabbers from acquiring such massive land from Akwukwu Igbo.
Nmor di na Akwukwu Igbo, Iyi Ukwu Okalete, Ogwugwu Ekeke is watching these Akwukwu Igbo citizens involved and their families will face the wrath of this action.

Support Lidl Richmond - Development Option 1

Our proposal seeks alterations to the former Co-op, Queens Road, Richmond, to allow Lidl to occupy the site. Lidl are consulting on two development options for the reconfiguration of the car park.

Option 1 comprises reconfiguration of the existing car park to create wider, longer parking bays and wider road widths to promote safe and convenient movement throughout the site, replacement of the existing surface with a mixture of tarmac and block paving to provide a smoother surface (making it easier to use trolleys), and replacement of the existing lighting columns with a more efficient LED design, which will provide more light within the car park, whilst also minimising light pollution. Tree planting will be included throughout the car park to enhance the visual amenity of the site.

Please note that a separate petition is available for Option 2. Please choose one petition only.

Preserving New Mexico Equitable Racing Opportunities Petition

Direction of Racing
We the undersigned are concerned about the continuing discussion of reductions of horse racing in New Mexico. In particular, just the discussion of reductions in racing opportunities for NM bred horses negatively affects the current livelihood of hundreds of multi-generational families. Because the industry requires long-term planning and investment, these discussions also affect the very plans and investments which are vital to sustain our industry.
Economic Impact
The horse racing industry has a long and storied history in New Mexico. NM racing continues to be recognized as a leader in the racing industry. The breeding and racing in the state of New Mexico has been shown to have an annual impact of $400 million on the state’s economy along with 10,000 associated jobs. Horse racing is the largest spectator sport and a major tourist attraction in New Mexico that attracts more than two million out-of-state visitors while contributing over $60 million to the state’s general fund.
Agricultural Impact
Horse farms are a critical element in maintaining the state’s agricultural heritage while preserving farmland and valuable green space. Many in-state and out-of-state farms, breeders, and owners of race horses have made long-term investments in New Mexico because of the racing opportunities within the state.
How the race tracks received approval for gaming
These economic and industry facts were the primary concerns and reasons that the Legislature and Governor approved gaming at the New Mexico tracks in 1997 with a goal of supporting a vital racing industry.

Modernize American Infrastructure

The continuing growth in consumer demand, spurred in part by the rise of e-commerce, will only strain already outdated infrastructure. Today over 122.5 million households and 7.5 million domestic businesses rely every day on the transportation system to obtain goods and that number is only projected to skyrocket in the coming years. Infrastructure designed to support fast, safe, and reliable shipping must be a top priority to build an economy geared for the future.

The recent release of the American Society of Civil Engineers infrastructure analysis painted a bleak picture of our nation’s transportation system, giving a nearly-failing D+ grade. The impact of a crumbling infrastructure is tangible. 2014 traffic delays estimated to cost over $160 billion in wasted time and fuel, and drivers spent more than 6.9 billion hours in traffic.

Chronic underinvestment and a lack of dedication to maintaining America's roads and bridges has at times put families in harm’s way, encouraged economic inefficiencies, and put undue stress on the environment. Infrastructure investment cannot be focused on simply filling potholes, but ensuring safety, efficiency, and sustainability across our infrastructure. Ultimately, the public and private sectors must work together to find sensible solutions that create greater trucking efficiency and stimulate long-term economic growth.
