Reconstruct the Bike Path at Sunset Beach

The bike path, known as Ke Ala Pupukea, was built nearly 30 years ago, and extends 3.5 miles through Sunset Beach. Due to aging, salt and sun damage, wear and tear, and tree roots pushing up the asphalt, the time has come to reconstruct this well-utilized path. It is dangerous. Seniors, dog walkers, moms with strollers, along with the many bike riders use the bike path daily. There are many tourists and locals from other parts of Oahu who use the path, too.

Ke Ala Pupukea was created by the City and County of Honolulu under the Harris Administration in 1994, and landscaped primarily by NSOC volunteers. These same NSOC volunteers, along with residents, maintained and cared for the small trees and shrubs along the bike path. Eight years ago, the City and County took over the care for Ke Ala Pupukea. This resulted in virtually no care or maintenance. It is important to note that the bike path was never built to code in the first place.

It is the only route between the beach roads and Kamehameha Highway for our children to pedal back and forth from Sunset Beach Elem., the skate park, the rec center, and tennis courts at Shark's Cove as well as all of the surf breaks in our neighborhood.

Note: Sponsorship donations go to adding the petition to the gopetition website front page and other places to get more exposure. They don't go to our organization.

Pedestrian Crossing Across A17 At Boston Road, Holbeach

There is currently an inadequate and dangerous pedestrian crossing provision joining Boston Road North and Boston Road South, across the A17.

This crossing point is used by pedestrians of all ages, schoolchildren and adults alike, who need to cross the A17 in order to access services, facilities and transport links in Holbeach town centre; shops, buses, doctors, dentist, churches, schools, work etc. Likewise, pedestrians need to cross the A17 from Boston Road South to get to Holbeach Hospital and the food processing factory.

This is an inherently dangerous road to cross with the current crossing provision. The main reasons it is so dangerous are:
•	Impaired sight-lines for motorists and pedestrians
•	Fast moving traffic in both directions, with dual lanes on the Eastbound carriageway
•	Pedestrians are exposed and vulnerable in the central island
•	Traffic rarely indicates when turning left from Boston Road South onto the Westbound A17
•	There is no signposting to indicate pedestrians crossing
•	Vehicles often use the right turn only lane on the Eastbound carriageway to overtake at speed on the roundabout
•	The volume of traffic will be increased past this crossing point when Peppermint Junction is developed

I contacted the Council, formally requesting an assessment and for a Signal-Controlled Crossing to be put at the Boston Road /A17 crossing, as there will be a significant increase in traffic when the Peppermint Junction improvement work is completed. Indeed the main purpose of the improved Peppermint Junction is to reduce accidents there at the current ‘T’ junction arrangement and to increase traffic flow via a roundabout, particularly HGVs, onto the A17 towards the crossing point at Boston Road.

I have received a letter via The Rt. Hon. John Hayes MP from Richard Wills, Executive Director for Environment & Economy of Lincolnshire County Council, which states “that an assessment has been carried out to determine whether the provision of a pedestrian crossing at the Boston Road / A17 junction meets the current Lincolnshire County Council criteria. The assessment meets the criteria but at present no funds are available for the provision of new pedestrian crossings.”

The Holbeach West Proposed Residential Development and A17 / A151 Peppermint Junction Scheme seems to be purely interested in new housing and improved transport links for HGVs and has no consideration for existing residents and pedestrians who need to continue crossing the A17 as part of their daily lives. The Council and developers are at risk of just moving one ill-conceived, dangerous and outdated road junction by creating another accident black-spot a bit further down the road at Boston Road.

I am requesting your support to gain the provision and inclusion of a crossing at Boston Road / A17 as part of the Peppermint Junction improvements, before a fatality happens.

Reinstate Funding for Bus Route 412 serving York, Bilton, Thorp Arch and Wetherby

From 25th November 2018 Connexions will no longer be running the 412 bus services which serves Bilton in Ainsty and Thorp Arch Trading Estate (07:40 from York to Wetherby and 17:25 from Wetherby to York). In addition the 16:20 from Wetherby to York will be cancelled. The services being cancelled are a life line for those who work along the route as well as those who have to attend appointments and are without a car who live along the route. The buses are often used by older members of the public as well as people with small children and the withdrawal will mean that they are cut off from essential services. Those who use the buses to get to work have no other option in terms of transport. Additionally the services have been withdrawn with too short notice for passengers to find another solution.

Do Not Ban Grab

PETEKMA, the Malaysian Taxi, Limousine and Rental Car Drivers and Operators Association, has appealed to the government seeking a ban on Grab on the grounds that it affects the livelihood of taxi drivers nationwide.

This petition to the Ministry of Transport is made on the premise that Grab and other ride-hailing services provide an economical and professional alternative mode of transportation, which the public have welcomed thus far. Furthermore, the choice to engage their preferred mode of transportation should be left to the consumer.

Newcastle upon Tyne - West Road Congestion Plan

A transit corridor is proposed along the West Road. However, road users have expressed concern about the potential loss of 50% capacity on the eastbound side of the dual carriageway and changes westbound. This may displace some of the traffic onto other routes, such as Stamfordham Road.

The campaign accepts that some changes to the West Road would be beneficial but we believe many of the changes will make congestion worse. We want to see the development of a suitable park and ride in the West End of Newcastle to help make public transport more attractive.

Stop the Local Road Charging Scheme in Newcastle upon Tyne

The Local Development Framework for Newcastle upon Tyne states that the council will consider “the introduction of road user charging to manage congestion and promote sustainable transport modes”. Every Liberal Democrat Councillor voted against a Labour Party amendment removing this clause.

Now that the council has voted to give itself the power to introduce local road user charging , it may only be a matter of time before it is introduced. In many cases, congestion may be increased by decisions made within the council.

We must demonstrate to Newcastle City Council that we want to see improvements to public transport in the city NOT more local stealth taxes.

For more information, see our blog site http://stop-newcastle-road-charge.blogspot.com/ or our Facebook site http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=8605207735&ref=nf

Australia Needs Type D Rear-Facing Toddler Car-Seats

Research around the world has proven that sitting in a rear-facing position in the car is five times safer for children under the age of 4 than sitting in a forward-facing position. Young children have heavy heads that are large in proportion to their bodies. The bones in their neck are still soft and under-developed.

If a young child is sitting forward-facing during a frontal collision, their head is thrown violently forward on impact, putting all the force of the crash onto their delicate necks. This puts them at risk of sustaining spinal injuries.

Sitting rear-facing in the car protects young children from spinal injuries in a frontal collision. The back of the car-seat cradles their head, neck and back. The back of the seat takes up the force of the collision, NOT the child’s neck. Their head is cushioned by the back of the seat and not thrown forward.

Australia has the highest standards of crash-testing child-restraints in the world, HOWEVER we have the earliest age of forward-facing our babies in the developed world at just 6 months of age. In the U.S. experts recommend babies remain rear-facing until age 2. In Sweden, children are kept rear-facing until age 4. Seats that can accommodate larger children rear-facing are readily available overseas.

The Australian Road Rules and the Australian Child Restraint Standards both allow for children to remain rear-facing until the age of 4. However, Australian child restraint manufacturers are not making these seats available in Australia because they feel there is no market for them in Australia.

Australian children deserve the same level of protection as their overseas cousins. Our children deserve the best possible protection in a crash. Let’s build upon our high safety standards to keep our kids even safer than ever before.

Join us at Rear-Facing Down Under on Facebook for more information on the important safety benefits of rear-facing.

Just Plane Wrong

This petition of residents of Dunalley, Murdunna, Connelly's Marsh, Boomer Bay, Marion Bay, Copping, Bream Creek and Kellevie and supporters draws to your attention that on 14 September, Commonwealth agency Airservices Australia introduced new standardized flight paths for planes arriving at Hobart Airport without public notice or consultation.

Consequently, up to thirty flights per day are now on a descent flight path, at approximately 5000 feet directly over, or immediately adjacent to our previously peaceful rural and coastal communities, most of which have never been previously overflown by commercial jet aircraft. More flights are planned once the Hobart Airport runway extension opens in March 2018, including heavy freight and direct international traffic. Hobart airport has no curfew, so these flights could arrive at any time of the day or night.

This significant change to Hobart's airspace was implemented without consultation with affected residents and businesses – in contravention of Airservices’s own Communication and Consultation Protocol.

Our local economy, still recovering from devastating bushfires in 2013, relies on our reputation as a pristine and tranquil area for tourism and agricultural industries such as wine, oysters and other seafood, dairy, cattle, goats and gourmet potatoes. Our beautiful and calm environment attracts people seeking to escape a noisy city lifestyle, both as visitors and residents.

We believe that we should have been consulted about the potential detriment to our economy, lifestyle, property values, health and the environment before such a significant decision was made.

Save National Highways of Manipur

The conditions of National Highway 39 (now National Highway 2) connecting Manipur and Nagaland; and National Highway 53 ( now National Highway 37 ) connecting Manipur and Assam are getting worse day by day. These two National Highways have been damaged beyond normal service due to the lack of maintenance by the Manipur and central governments.

These two highways are the only lifeline of the 2,855,794 people of Manipur. These two highways are also the only ways to reach Manipur in the hilly regions of north eastern India from the remaining part of the country. More than 2 millions of lives suffer to access the basic needs whenever these highways are blocked. Help us to revive these two lifelines of the Manipuris. Give us a new lease of life and connect us to you.
