Stop the Milton Street Airport Development in Mackay — Protect Our Community and Local Character

The Milton Street Precinct is a commercial and retail development being constructed on land next to Mackay Airport. While it promises future business growth, the project is expected to permanently alter the identity of our community.

The area currently reflects Mackay’s unique character — a peaceful mix of sugarcane fields, open space, and modest development. This project introduces large-scale commercial activity just steps from residential neighborhoods and farmland. It risks:

Increasing traffic congestion on Milton Street and surrounding roads

Disrupting the quiet, regional identity of the airport approach

Encouraging further overdevelopment at the cost of green space and local charm

Putting pressure on existing infrastructure and small local businesses

Many Mackay residents value our community’s laid-back atmosphere, scenic approach to the airport, and agricultural roots. The Milton Precinct project does not reflect these values and appears to prioritize commercial interests over community well-being.

Fair Wages and Affordable Living for Queensland Families

Queensland families, particularly in regions like Gladstone, are facing an increasing financial burden due to the rising costs of essential goods and services. While wages have remained stagnant, the price of groceries, rent, utilities, and other necessities has skyrocketed, leaving many families struggling to make ends meet.

The pressure of managing household expenses is taking a toll on the well-being of individuals, parents, and children alike. The disparity between wages and living costs is unsustainable, and it is time for the government to take action to ensure that families are supported and provided the opportunity to thrive.

This petition seeks to highlight the urgent need for:

Fair wage increases that reflect the rising cost of living.

More affordable housing and rental options for families.

Policies that prioritize the well-being of everyday citizens over corporate interests.

It is crucial that our elected leaders act now to protect the financial security of Queensland families and to ensure that no one is left behind.

Establishment of clothing optional hiking trails in NSW national parks

In recent years, there has been growing international recognition of the mental, physical, and emotional benefits associated with naturism and clothing-optional recreation. As the founder of NaturismRE & Naturis Sancta and an advocate for respectful naturism, I am calling on the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service to support a forward-thinking initiative: the designation of clothing-optional hiking trails in select national parks across New South Wales. This proposal draws on the successful model established in Germany, where clothing-optional trails have flourished for over a decade without conflict. With the closure of Werrong Beach and the lack of legal spaces for naturists in NSW, it is time to offer safe, clearly marked trails in semi-remote or remote areas. These trails would empower individuals to reconnect with nature, promote body acceptance, and enhance Australia’s eco-tourism appeal. With appropriate signage, community guidelines, and strong environmental safeguards, this initiative has the potential to lead the nation in inclusivity, wellness, and responsible outdoor recreation.

Petition against the Casey Council for Approval of Waste Transfer Station Without EPA Endorsement!

Today, our community faces a shocking and deeply unjust decision by Casey Council to approve a waste transfer station at 290 Hallam Road, right in Hampton Park. This decision was made without the endorsement of the Environment Protection Authority (EPA) — the very agency responsible for safeguarding our health and environment. How can our Council move forward with a project of this scale without a full EPA assessment?
This rushed approval, hidden from public notice and stripped of our right to appeal, raises serious questions about transparency, accountability, and whose interests are truly being served here. Our voices have been sidelined, our rights ignored, and the safety of our community put at risk.
This isn’t just a procedural failure; it’s an outright dismissal of our community’s welfare. Casey Council must answer for this alarming oversight. We will not stand quietly while decisions impacting our health and environment are pushed through without due process.

The proposed facility is within 250 metres of family homes and in the middle of densely populated areas. Residents of surrounding suburbs have not been properly informed, and those who have are extremely concerned about the severe, adverse environmental and social impacts of processing 550,000 tonnes of putrescible and inert waste per annum. Over 1,000 objections were received but largely ignored by the Casey Council and Administrators. On 12 August 2024, the EPA introduced new buffer and separation distance guidelines to protect the health and safety of residents, which the City of Casey override with permit conditions.

The petitioners, therefore, request that Casey Council ensure that a waste transfer station is not constructed in the South-Eastern Metropolitan region by overturning the approval of planning permit application PA23/0694, rejecting development license application APP032219, and investigating the processes that have led to the planning permit application being approved by the City of Casey.

Address Roof Tapping Issue in Suzuki Jimny Models!

In recent months, numerous owners of the 2023/24 Suzuki Jimny have reported a persistent roof tapping noise, particularly during warm weather. This issue appears to be widespread, with many owners believing that the tapping is caused by the expansion of the roof material in response to heat.

Discussions in online forums and owner groups indicate that this problem is not isolated. The tapping noise, often occurring during long drives or after exposure to sunlight, detracts from the vehicle's comfort and raises concerns about the quality of its design and manufacturing. Despite multiple complaints, Suzuki has yet to acknowledge the issue or provide a satisfactory solution.

This issue affects the driving experience and may indicate a deeper flaw in the vehicle’s design or material selection, leaving many owners frustrated and seeking resolution. We believe Suzuki should investigate this matter thoroughly and offer an appropriate solution, whether through repairs, replacement parts, or an official recall.

**Petition for Fair Funding for Small Non-Profit Animal Rescues**

Enchanted Rescue is a small non-profit cat rescue organization facing the harsh reality of limited funding to support our mission of saving the lives of thousands of cats living on the streets. Without our intervention, many of these vulnerable felines would face euthanasia at pounds and shelters. Grants, which could provide vital resources for our rescue efforts, are scarce and often favor larger organizations, leaving smaller groups like ours struggling to secure the funding needed to make a significant impact. Despite these challenges, we remain dedicated to our cause, tirelessly working to provide a lifeline for these cats in need and create a brighter future for them.

Businesses can #BridgeTheVoiceGap

For Australian businesses that have a desire to #BridgeTheVoiceGap for First Nations people - irrespective of The Voice Referendum outcome - we believe that Industry possesses the power to enact real, lasting change and create sustainable outcomes for First Nations people by helping to address the inequalities they face via their business operations.

The Challenge:

Australian businesses are now prioritising Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) priorities with financial incentives attached (and penalties for falling short) However, there is still a clear need to #BridgeTheVoiceGap between intent and practical action and this can be achieved by connecting Reconciliation Action Plans (RAP) and ESG Plans so that RAP action progress also create financial consequences in the same way.

Support Emu Swamp Dam

Whilst water is crucial to the survival of the Granite Belt horticultural industry, it is imperative that the general supply is bolstered for the sake and survival of our community, its citizens, businesses and associated livelihoods. It is for this reason that the Granite Belt Growers Association is a proud and vehement supporter of the Granite Belt Irrigation Project due to the absolute need for additional water to survive and thrive, both now and into the future.

In the midst of drought, many of us were heard saying that “we are one day closer to rain.” Now the pain of the 2019/2020 drought has eased for some, and we are focused on the fact that “we are one day closer to the next drought.”

Without added water security, the Granite Belt cannot grow and progress. Without Emu Swamp Dam, the government will be putting the rubber stamp on our limit of production over the next 100 years. When the next drought comes, it will wipe out another $100 million dollars worth of production.
