Save Mullins Beach bar from becoming a Royal Westmoreland Private Club

Mullins Beach bar has been a landmark location for the past 40 years.
It is enjoyed by locals and visitors. This location provides enjoyment for thousands of persons, and employment for beach vendors, water sport and water craft operators, taxi operators, staff at the beach bar itself and of course the businesses who supply the beach bar with products.

Royal Westmoreland plans to close the bar, beach facilities and restrict access to the beach in June 2018. They will convert it to a private club only for members and residents of Royal Westmoreland.
No tourists or locals will be allowed to use the bar or facilities as they have for the past 40 years and access to the beach will be limited.

Please join with us and stop the privatization of this piece of Barbadian History.

Stop the overflow of raw sewage on our streets

There have been reports over a year ago of malfunctions with the South Coast Sewage system. The Opposition Leader brought it to public attention back in October 2015 and put it down to broken pumps. She also said that a report indicated that the Graeme Hall Swamp, our last remaining mangrove, was being affected by the run off.

One month later Minister David Estwick responsible for Water Resources Management was reported in the Press that the problem would be solved by the construction of a leachate plant by the Ministry of Drainage and the replacement of broken pumps, which would be seen to urgently.

One year later the situation is noticeably worse with reports of raw sewage bubbling from manholes in various places along the South Coast.

There has been a fish kill in the pond at Peronne believed to because by run off from the sewage lines.

Put legislation in place to allow video footage as evidence in law courts

In Barbados, there is currently no legislation in place that allows for the use of video evidence in a court of law. Thus, even if a criminal is caught on camera, that basic evidence is inadmissible in the law courts.

The police must now search for evidence to take a suspect to court, even though video evidence is available and clearly shows the perpetrator's actions. This cannot continue.

What is the purpose of installing cameras if the person caught on video cannot be convicted based on the most basic of evidence? I want us to change that. As a concerned citizen living in 2015 with all kinds of technology available, it is inconceivable that this continues to be so.

Please sign this petition so we can let the leaders know that this is not good enough. No matter your place on the political spectrum, this affects you.

Let us let Barbados' leadership know this needs to be fixed now!

Time to call elections in Barbados

Over the last 2.5 years since the death of David Thompson we have been given blunder after blunder and the country is left without a direction and much needed leadership to handle its affairs.

This latest action by Prime Minster Stuart in the handling of Alexandra school speaks volumes of the poor decision making skills he possesses; even his own phased plan, he has rejected in favour of setting up an investigation committee after 4 months of no response from his administration.

This is not good enough; we need much better !!

The Empire Theatre was built in 1922 and once hosted vaudeville shows and in its latter years functioned as a movie theatre.

Sanction Blood's Song - "Wuk You" for Airplay in Barbados

It has been brought to our attention that Blood's new song"Wuk You" has been banned from several local radio stations. (To listen to the song and view the lyrics free visit http://play.WukYou.com)

While the authorities responsible for making these decisions at all local stations have denied comment, refused calls, or refused to return calls we have only what comes through other staff members of the stations.

According to local Disc Jockeys, the reason for the ban against the new dance track by local artist and producer, Blood, seems to be that the song was too "suggestive" in a sexual sense.

This is not the case. In actual fact, the song rightfully titled "Wuk You" is really a song about dancing. To "wuk" or to "wukkup" as we understand in colloquial speech refers to the manner in which we as a nation dance, particularly to the music of our local and regional artists. While the words themselves "Wuk You" may be phonetically similar to another, less appropriate phrase, it is not the intention of the artist.

In reality, this Artist is being punished by the authorities' incorrect assumptions and prenotions that all calypsos have sexual connotations. These incorrect assumptions are writing off the hard work and dedication of this local artist.

On top of his dedication to his own Music, Blood has also been responsible for mentoring many upcoming Calypsonians as well as producing their tracks. Blood does all this while continuing to promote and foster a continued interest in Calypso amongst the musical youth of Barbados and his dedication deserves a greater reward than this.

The most controversial fact is that our radio stations seem to have a double standard for our local artist Vs international artist. A popular song which can be heard on all the radio stations in question is one by the International Superstar "Akon" entitled "Smack That". A song about the ways the artist wants to have intercourse "all on the floor" and asks his seductress to "give him some more". How can these blatantly sexual, outright disgusting and totally degrading songs be permitted on our radio stations when the hard work and dedication of our local artists are criticized and banned? This is surely unacceptable!

A website has been setup for you listen to Blood's new song and read the lyrics. You decide for yourself. Visit Http://play.WukYou.com
