Protect Consumers from Unfair HVAC Rental Practices in Ontario

Thousands of Ontarians are trapped in unfair HVAC rental contracts with companies like Reliance and Enercare. Complaints continue to rise, exposing deceptive business practices that leave consumers financially burdened and without essential heating or cooling when they need it most. The issues include:
Inflated buyout prices that far exceed the actual value of the equipment.

Unreasonable contract terms that make cancellation difficult and costly.

Slow and inadequate service responses that leave families without heating in freezing winters or air conditioning during extreme summer heat.

Misleading technician recommendations—many customers report being advised to replace rather than repair functioning equipment, pressuring them into expensive new contracts.

Lack of accountability despite growing complaints and even CBC investigations into these practices.

Our Demands
We, the undersigned, call on the Ontario government and regulators to implement urgent policy changes to protect consumers from predatory HVAC rental practices. Specifically, we demand:
1. Fair Buyout Prices – Buyout costs must be based on the actual depreciated value of equipment, not arbitrary inflated fees.

2. Faster Service Response – HVAC companies must respond to no-heat and no-cooling emergencies within 24 to 48 hours to prevent life-threatening situations.

3. No Contracts Without Real Signatures – Companies must obtain physical or legally verified digital signatures, ensuring customers fully understand contract terms before signing.

4. Easy Rental Cancellation – Consumers must have the right to cancel without penalties or hidden fees if they experience:
Unresolved service failures.
Misleading sales tactics.
Unfair contract terms.

5. Emergency Cancellation Rights – If HVAC service is not restored within 48 hours, customers must have the right to cancel without penalty, including waiving all removal and delivery fees.

6. Protection Against Misleading Technician Advice – Companies must be held accountable for technicians who falsely claim repairs are impossible and instead push costly equipment replacements or new contracts.

Why This Cannot Wait:
Many Ontarians have been misled, financially exploited, or left without essential heating or cooling due to these unfair practices. Some were pressured into contracts through aggressive door-to-door sales tactics, while others were wrongly told that repairs were not an option. Even when customers try to cancel, they face outrageous fees and legal loopholes that trap them in unfair agreements.

Despite growing complaints and media investigations, these companies continue to operate without meaningful regulation. It’s time for the Ontario government to step in and protect consumers.

Petition in Support of Revitalizing Sarnia’s Airport for a Stronger, Sustainable Future

A Unified Vision for Sarnia’s Future – Revitalizing Our Airport

Sarnia stands at a pivotal moment in its development. With major projects like the proposed nuclear plant on the horizon, we must take decisive steps to ensure our community remains economically strong, innovative, and self-sustaining. A revitalized airport is a critical piece of this future, offering opportunities for business expansion, skilled trades, STEM education, and sustainable development.

The airport’s redevelopment would enhance regional connectivity, support economic growth, and create new job opportunities while reinforcing Sarnia’s role as a leader in industry and innovation. By integrating partnerships with Indigenous communities, educational institutions, and local businesses, we can build a future-ready transportation hub that benefits everyone.

Now is the time to secure long-term investment in our city’s infrastructure. A fully operational airport would reduce reliance on government funding, open doors for global business partnerships, and support youth involvement in aviation, engineering, and sustainable energy.

We urge our leaders, policymakers, and community stakeholders to prioritize the reopening and development of Sarnia’s airport. This is not just an infrastructure project—it’s an investment in our future.

Reform the Canadian Public Primary Healthcare System

We Need Your Help! Please Sign the Petition.

Canada's primary healthcare system is in crisis. According to the Canadian Institute for Health Information (2024), 6.5 million Canadian adults - 22% of the population - lack access to a family doctor or nurse practitioner. If current trends continue, this will worsen to 10 million Canadians by 2032, that’s 1 out of every 3 Canadians without a doctor.

The crisis is intensified by our aging physician workforce:

~ Each retiring family doctor leaves approximately 1,000 patients without care
~ 1.7 million Ontario patients are currently cared for by doctors over 65
~ The federal government projects 48,900 family physician job openings by 2031, but only 29,400 potential physicians to fill them

The impact on Canadians is severe:

~ Only 26% can get same-day or next-day appointments when needed
~ Over 50% of physicians report burnout, spending up to 20 hours weekly on paperwork
~ 40% of emergency room visits could have been managed by primary care providers
~ Young adults, lower-income households, and rural communities are disproportionately affected

Canada ranks lowest among peer nations for primary care access. While over 95% of residents in countries like the UK, Norway, Netherlands, and Finland have guaranteed access to primary care, only 77% of Canadians do.

Climate Stewardship Debate

Canadian taxpayers pay heavily to solve climate change, and yet there has never been an open public debate on climate change or the method to handle it.

Canadians need to hear all the data, not just what the government and the media feed us.

Debate is a forum where all the data is presented on all climate change issues and how to handle them.
Citizens need to hear all the Data from all scientists and economists, not just the experts that the government and media approve.

At present:
1) There have never been formal, extensive public debates on handling climate change, yet it is one of the most significant taxes in our history.

2) Anyone who questions climate change or the method to handle it is publicly shamed as a climate denier or skeptic

3) Climate change is worldwide, and the solutions to this dilemma must be acknowledged.

4) China is Building coal plants yearly, and they will not stop.
China, the USA and India are the biggest polluters.
Canada has less than 2% of the carbon problem, or near that.
And yet climate alarmists are willing to destroy Canada's economy
to make a negligible impact.

5) Climate alarmists want crippling change immediately instead of thoughtful integration.

6) Climate alarmists will cripple oil production in Canada and yet are silent about imported oil from Saudi Arabia.

*Climate alarmists will stop oil tankers operating on the west coast and yet say nothing about oil tankers on the East Coast.

*Climate alarmists intentionally instil climate hysteria in our children.

*Some scientists have been shut down or ostracized
for having different opinions about climate change.

*Only positive green energy articles are published,
and naysayers are shut down.

It is time for citizens to be given a formal, extensive public debate on handling climate change.

It is necessary for the debate to be organized by people that do not receive government funds.
It is also necessary for the citizens to have the right to vote on the methods to solve climate change.

Stop the Emergency Act

On Monday, February 14, 2022, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau chose to invoke the Emergency Act to deal with the ongoing truckers' protest. This protest has been an overwhelmingly peaceful protest by Canadians against the various provincial and federal mandates in place regarding the Covid pandemic, which are now no longer necessary, if indeed they ever were.
The Emergency Act is the successor to the infamous War Measures Act which was invoked by this prime minister's father, Pierre Elliot Trudeau, in 1970 after militant Quebec separatists kidnapped a British diplomat and a provincial Cabinet minister. That was a true and real crisis affecting the nation. In this instance, Canadian citizens are dancing in the streets, bringing their children with them to protest in Ottawa.
The Truckers' Protest is not a crisis - it is an inconvenience, but this government is unable to handle the situation and it shows.
Canadians are furious with this overreach of government power and demand that it stops.
By signing this petition, you are telling the government that you do not support the invocation of the Emergency Act, and that you will not vote for any member of the House of Commons who votes in favour of it.
Maybe, when our politicians realize that Canadians will not accept this insanity, and that their jobs are on the line, we'll be able to stop this foolish, abusive and ill considered act on the part of the Prime Minister.
It is important that you sign this petition immediately - we only have a few days to stop this insanity.
And please - share this petition on your Facebook and other social media pages - help get the word out to every Canadian from sea to sea.

Coronavirus Vaccines for the World

Former British Prime Minister has called the failure to distribute vaccines to poorer countries is a “stain on our global soul” . This view is supported by many including the World Health Organization (WHO) declared that countries’ “blanket booster programs” were likely to prolong the pandemic by diverting supplies to wealthier nations.

When history looks back on this time, if we continue to remain silent, this will be viewed as one of the most stark failures of those who can, refusing to help those who cannot. We need to make our voices heard. Canada has it in its power to be a leading voice. We can join together to persuade wealthy nations to join to offer assistance to vaccinate those countries with low vaccination rates.

My goal is to collect 10,000 signatures and present it to my local member of Parliament as well as to Prime Minister Trudeau. We need to make sure our government is a leader so we can " Vaccinate the World" and ensure everyone has access to good health care.

Save the award winning Bell McKinnon Local Area Plan

Do not change the award winning Bell McKinnon Local Area Plan! Why would tax payers agree to effectively flush hundreds of thousands of dollars down the toilet? This what councillors Marsh, Justice and Douglas are trying to achieve by omitting the current plan and starting over. The Bell McKinnon LAP was developed with input form North Cowichan staff, residents, business owners, landowners and First Nations. The plan received the Gold Award in Policy Planning at the Land Summit meeting in Vancouver in 2019. The plan was recognized for being a "model green growth centre that is vibrant, walkable urban village". There are applications currently sitting dormant at the municipality that would responsibly build multifamily homes with park area and walking trails just as the plan required. These councillors are arbitrarily trying to cancel the plan and start over. We are currently in a housing crisis and building a billion dollar hospital and an elementary school. How does limiting growth and requiring newcomers to drive from places like Langford and Victoria GREEN? A representative from Vancouver Island Health Authority stated their concerns at a recent council meeting that they already have lost doctors because they cannot find homes in the area. How do we intend to house the 700+ hospital staff including doctors and nurses and the several hundred people it will take to build the hospital when we cannot even house our current families?

Kit Hood Alley

Naming a lane way at Queen St. E. and Carlaw to Logan

We would like to propose to the City of Toronto that the lane way behind 935 Queen Street (the former offices of Playing With Time where Degrassi was built) just south of Queen Street at Carlaw extending to Logan be called Kit Hood’s Lane in honour of our dear, late father who passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on January the 20th, 2020.

In order to suggest this naming to the City, we need to show that we have local support for this effort.

Our father Kit had a full life in which he was able to fulfil his creative desires writing, directing, editing and producing movies and television. He will likely be best remembered as the co-creator of the Degrassi series of television shows following the lives of Toronto children from elementary school through to high school graduation; these influential shows were an essential part of late 20th century Canadian popular culture, and have fans around the world.

Why name a lane way?

Naming a laneway gives the lane an identity and creates a sense of place, This also encourages more pedestrian traffic, making it safer. The collaborative process of naming a laneway (and it takes a collaborative process), helps build community connections, good will, and a feeling of neighbourhood pride.

Listed below are a few of the benefits of naming a local lane way.
Safety and Security - A laneway with a name helps police, fire and paramedic services find it in the event of an emergency;

Commemorating History - Naming a laneway after a noteworthy person, place, event, etc. is encouraged under Toronto’s street naming policy, and it helps preserve history;

Placemaking - Naming a laneway gives the lane an identity and creates a sense of place, which also serves to invite more pedestrian traffic, making it safer;

Community Building - The collaborative process of naming a laneway helps build community connections, goodwill, and a feeling of neighbourhood pride;

Invites Further Laneway Improvements - A laneway with a name opens the door to further laneway improvements, such as beautification and community events like laneway movie screenings, potlucks, and local farmers’ markets.

“Back alleys, neglected courtyards, and stairways may escape our notice…yet if they are claimed, and owned, and developed, they can be harnessed to strengthen and enrich their communities.”
— Placemaking and the Future of Cities, Project for Public Spaces

My sister and I are looking for support for this our initiative.

Can we ask for your support?

Thank you So much for your time!
