Stop the Sale of Aburi Gardens

http://wangoweb.com/2012/09/15/government-to-sell-aburi-gardens-to-private-investors/

The Government of Ghana is in the process of privatizing the Aburi Gardens.

The famous Gardens, which attract both local and international tourists every year, has been deteriorating in the recent past years.

Tourism Minister Akua Sena Dansoa revealed on Thursday that the park will soon be sold to private handlers.

“It’s in a very sorrowful state and so the cabinet has directed that the Ministry of Local Government, under which falls Parks and Gardens, which has responsibility for the parks to divest the park,” she said.

She said the Ministry is no longer in a position to manage the Gardens and that the options available are a Public Private Partnership or a a wholly private sector takeover.

She assured that when the process is completed, it will become a beautiful sight to behold as it used to be.

Akua Sena Dansoa also described as ‘unGhanaian’ the practice where people urinate in the open. She says the uncouth practice paints a bad image about Ghana to tourists.

Sometimes you drive in the centre of Accra and you see people by the road side urinating. Where on this earth will you find that? Even in certain parts of Africa you cannot do it,” she lamented.

She said people should inculcate in themselves and in their children the Ghanaian image of decency so as to keep the environment clean and free of diseases.

“It is not even proper for you to stand there and display your thing and start urinating. So when fathers and mothers do that, what do you expect your children to do?” She asked.

The scourge of armed robbery which has plagued Ghana over the past few years is now out of control and innocent citizens have lost their lives or are living in fear for their personal safety and security.

A member of the Kaneshie community of the Accra Metropolitan Area, Mr. George Brown, was recently brutally stabbed and hacked to death in his home by an armed robber. Several innocent Ghanaians have already lost their lives due to the brutal activities of armed robbers.

We Say No To Telephony Companies' Sub-Standard Service

We the mobile telephone consumers of Ghana have embarked on a demonstration to protest the sub-standard services being offered by the mobile telephony companies in Ghana. This demonstration has become necessary because these companies have turned deaf ears to numerous complaints from individual consumers and the collective voices through the Consumer Protection Agency (CPA).

The time has now come for consumers to demonstrate and send a clear signal to the mobile companies that Ghanaians will no longer tolerate the shoddy services by these companies. By this petition we are inviting the Government through the Ministry of Communications and and the National Communications Authority to swiftly intervene to ensure that the following cocktail of consumer complaints are addressed without further delay;

1. GHANAIANS DEMAND PORTABILITY NOW BUY NOT IN 2 YEARS AS ANNOUNCED A FEW MONTHS AGO (right to switch between networks & still keep our numbers)

2. GHANAIANS DESERVE LOWER PHONE RATES AS PERTAINED IN THE HOME COUNTRIES OF THE TELEPHONY COMPANIES

3. GHANAIANS ARE TIRED OF LOW-GRADE SERVICE SUCH AS CALLL DROPS, OUT OF COVERAGE AREAS, REPEATED UNINITIATED TEXT MESSAGES, ETC.

4. GHANAIANS ARE SICK OF PHONY PROMOTIONS THAT ARE NOT MONITORED AND AUDITED BY THE NCA.

5. GHANAIANS ARE FATIGUED OF BEING OUT OF COVERAGE AREA WHEN THE PEOPE YOU CALL HAVE THEIR PHONES SWITCHED ON, AND IN FACT ARE AROUND THE CORNER FROM YOU.

6. GHANAIANS MUST BE PROTECTED FROM THE INDISCRIMINATE CONSTRUCTION OF MASTS THAT MAY BE HAZARDOUS.

Solve the Achimota School Health Crisis

Achimota School’s antiquated sewerage system, never upgraded since it was installed decades ago, has finally collapsed. It is spilling sewage, including human waste, into some of the gutters, streets and open areas of the campus. This has created a public health crisis that could easily spread deadly communicable diseases throughout the Achimota community of more than 4,500 students and staff, not counting others.

On January 19, 2010, Government health inspectors ordered the school to resolve the problem or shut down. The problem is that Achimota, once Ghana’s leading secondary school and a pacesetter in West African education, is cash-strapped. The school is in a state of general decay and has no money to fix what has now become a huge and expensive sanitation problem.

The clogging and bursting of the sewer pipes has been accelerated by aggressive encroachment by private individuals, who have built homes illegally on school land, often almost directly on top of the sewer system's main lines.

Despite the risks to health caused by the ongoing spillage, there has been no discernible movement toward resolving the crisis. A sense of outrage and frustration is beginning to build among parents, students and alumni, especially since Achimota is a fully government-owned school. As such, it cannot decide, on its own, to raise school fees to expand its maintenance budget. Its hands are tied.

We believe that the Ghana Government has a clear duty to undertake major repair projects such as sewer system replacement at government-owned schools, especially when the school has been ordered by the Government itself to contain an ongoing and escalating public health crisis.

Non-Resident Ghanaians Need Dual Citizenship Law Revised

The Dual Citizenship Act of Ghana launched on Wednesday, July 3rd 2002. Among other innovations, the law provides for dual citizenship and grants the "right of abode" to Diasporan Africans.

Also under the law, a person may decide to acquire the citizenship of another nation in addition to his citizenship, and thereby become a dual citizen, if the citizenship laws of that nation would permit him/her to retain his/her existing citizenship. The legislative proposal also replaced the Ghana Nationality Act 1971 (Act 361).

Many Ghanaians remain or become citizens of another country because of the advantages, including:

·	employment opportunities
·	entitlement to social programs, such as pensions
·	property ownership
·	unrestricted residency

Currently under Ghana’s Dual Citizenship Law among other things, no dual citizen of Ghana regardless of the person’s qualification shall qualify to be appointed as a holder of any office specified as below:

·	Chief Justice and Justices of the Supreme Court;
·	Ambassador or High Commissioner;
·	Secretary to the Cabinet;
·	Chief of Defense Staff or any Service Chief;
·	Inspector- General of Police;
·	Commissioner, Customs, Excise and Preventive Service;
·	Director of Immigration Service;
·	Commissioner, Value Added Tax Service;
·	Director- General, Prisons Service;
·	Chief Fire Officer;
·	Chief Director of a Ministry;
·	A rank of a Colonel in the Army or its equivalent in the other security services; and the worse of all is this vague one
·	“Any other public office that the Minister may be legislative instrument prescribes”.
The act says all Ghanaian who wish to renounced their Ghanaian citizenship to:
·	Apply to the Hon Minister for the interior for the grant of Dual Citizenship
·	Purchase of Form 10 at the cost of $100 at the Ministry of the Interior or from a representative of the Ministry of the Interior in our Diplomatic Missions abroad

Under the law, it is an offence for anyone to use passports issued by their receiving countries and the Ghanaian passport interchangeable. That person becomes liable on Summary conviction to a fine not exceeding 250 penalty units or a term of imprisonment not exceeding one year or to both.

The law fails to distinguish between those Non-Resident Ghanaians who lost their Ghanaian citizenship by denouncing it for a new citizenship and those who became citizens of their receiving countries without denouncing their Ghanaian citizenship.

Please pass this along and sign below if you agree with other Non-Resident Ghanaians (NRGS) that our lawmakers in Ghana need to revisit this law that only grants limited citizenship to Ghanaians living in the Diaspora.

This petition will be forwarded to the Speaker and the Ghanaian Parliament, the Office of the President of Ghana and all concerned and hopefully we will be heard.

Another thing is from Axim (Accra) to Zabzugu (Northern), non of our town/cities are planed "so when are we going to do that?"

Ban Da vinci Code in God fearing nations

June 10, 2006

The Da Vinci Code movie presents as the historical Jesus someone who is not recognisable in the Biblical record.

In essence, it is attempting to undermine the authenticity of that very record, and the judgement of those who received it. Remarkably, the Graeco-Roman dominant Church of that day elected to view itself as descended from the 'barbarian' heritage of Israel rather than from its own European heritage.

Just as Marcion sought to establish a Euro-centric canon of Scripture by excluding texts which he saw as full of 'barbarian' (non-European/Hebrew) influences, so the Da Vinci Code is a neo-Marcionite attempt to promote the Euro-centric (Hellenist rather than Hebrew) neo-Gnosticism that is always fashionable among those who consider themselves the children of Athens rather than of Jerusalem.

The true message of the canonical Gospels is that Jesus Christ is at once God and Man, eternal and temporal. A Gnostic faith may indeed deny the significance of the temporal in order to excuse deeds done in history that orthodoxy would label as sins. St. Paul addresses this matter in Romans chapters 5 through 8.

It seems as though the Western world is seeking some kind of metaphysical ground for what it has already accepted in practice: freedom from the bounds of the moral wisdom that has been promoted in the church for centuries.
