End the Silent Suffering of the Macaws at Little Foot Nursery in Swakopmund!

The macaw parrots housed at Little Foot Nursery in Swakopmund have been subjected to deplorable conditions over two decades, prompting concerned individuals to intervene. Despite concerted efforts from multiple caretakers visiting weekly, the well-being of these birds remains neglected. Numerous reports and complaints have been lodged with the SPCA branches in Swakopmund and Walvis Bay, as well as with the Windhoek SPCA and Municipality Animal Control. However, these pleas for intervention have gone unanswered.

The current state of the birds and their aviary falls egregiously below acceptable standards, as acknowledged by the SPCA in Swakopmund and Walvis Bay. Despite their acknowledgment of the complaints, no meaningful action has been taken to rectify the appalling conditions in which the parrots are kept. This petition seeks to address the systemic neglect and advocate for the immediate removal of the macaw parrots from Little Foot Nursery or, at the very least, prompt voluntary surrender by the facility. It is imperative to bring attention to this urgent matter and secure justice for these suffering creatures.

Stop MTC's 2 N$ a Day Theft

So how will this new data charging work? To the prepaid customers, after you have used all your free data or megabytes included in any Aweh weekly subscription, a daily fee of N$2 is charged when the data session is initiated at the beginning of the day (00:00).

The small fee allows customers access to 10 Megabytes until midnight. When the customers reach their daily usage limit, the data session will be suspended until the next day cycle so that there will be no surprises. We have also introduced a functionality where the customer will now receive a notification sms when they reach 8 Megabytes (meaning 80% of their daily 10 Megabytes per day), simply notifying the customer that their daily data session is almost exhausted, and will recommend that the customer buy a new data bundle by calling *682#.

We will apply exactly the same principles to our Postpaid Select packages; when a customer reaches 80% of its data on monthly subscription on his/her package, an SMS will notify the customer about the pending data depletion and that a daily fee will be charged once depleted. The daily fee will depend on the subscription; the higher the subscription, the more data the customer can use during the day, so please see information on our website pertaining to daily fees that apply to different packages.

Also important to note is when postpaid customer reaches their daily data usage limit, the data session will be suspended till the next day’s cycle unless the customer opts to buy a new data bundle. The same SMS notification will be send to the postpaid customer as the prepaid. This new system is consistent with the data bundles that MTC introduced in the market some years back.

And to make this even more exciting, Ekandjo explains that MTC has now doubled the Megabytes of the data bundles, i.e. with the same price customer will get double Megabytes.

The data bundles also generate an SMS that will always notify the customer when usage reaches 80%, which puts the customer in much better control of their usage.

Free all Caprivi high treason prisoners now!

In August 1999, the Caprivi Liberation Army attacked military bases and police centers in Caprivi Strip. In response, the Namibian government killed, tortured and arrested hundreds of Caprivians. Some were discharged after two to three weeks without trial.

Others remain on trial for about 14 years now while in maximum security prison. More than 23 of these prisoners have died while in prison. At least 44 have been acquitted, 10 sentenced, and 66 currently remain on trial, testifying in their own defence.

Caprivi Concerned Group has since April 2012 appealled to the Namibian government to:

a) unconditionally release all Caprivi political prisoners
b) allow political dialogue
c) allow a referendum on the Caprivi political dispute

But it was all in vain. we were denied the right to peacefully protest (demonstrate) at least twice: http://www.nshr.org.na/index.php?module=News&func=display&sid=1796, http://www.newera.com.na/articles/49688/Concerned-group-wants--political-solution---claim-civil-liberties-suppressed and http://www.capriviconcernedgroup.com/caprivi-group-still-cant-demonstrate/

Tell the Namibia SPCA to protect our seals

Recently, the Namibia SPCA was allowed to witness the Namibian Seal Cull. After a day of watching innocent pups and bulls being killed in the most horrific way , they called the cull humane! We need to tell them that is unacceptable and they need to protect the Cape Fur Seal instead of condoning their murder!!

The SPCA, on its website, claims that it supports animal rights:

" In as much as there is ample evidence that many animal species are capable of feeling, we condemn totally the infliction of suffering upon our fellow creatures and the curtailment of their natural behavioral and other needs save where this is necessary for their individual benefit. We do not accept that a difference in species (any more than a difference in race) can justify wanton exploitation or oppression in the name of science or sport, or for use as food, for commercial profit or for other human gain."

But yet, The Namibia SPCA refuses to stand up for the Cape Fur Seal and ending the barbaric hunt.

Against Telecom Namibia's New Payment Incentives: 3g-Evdo Product

The 3G-EVDO is an internet product Telecom Namibia introduced last year. This product package included: A free wireless internet device, Connection fee of N$ 185 once off, an internet subscription fee of N$289pm for 550MB. And the out of bundle fee was N$1.30/MB when free bundles werenexceeded, even thou Telecom Namibia did not charge for the out of bundle until August 2009.

From August 2009 the new payment incentives for the out of bundle bandwidth were introduces, with a fee per MB lowered, but no OPTIONS for the customers of the 3G-EVDO product. Every customer with this product is bound to a 24months contract. When customers complain about the new payment incentives, the common phrase of "you signed a contract or its in your contract" is thrown our way.

This phrase has become the legal back-up excuse to impose customer to what-ever decisions are made. Clause in the contract signed regarding the 3G-EVDO last year are not denied by customers, but OPTIONS in reference to new payment incentives are denied to the customers. In the first place when this product was introduced, it was introduced as 550MB for N$289pm, that's the main reason why so many of us rushed out to get it, it was affordable and it could fit in our monthly budgets. Now that affordability is taken away with the new incentives: We want options.
