Nepal should execute the Kathmandu-Terai Fast Track Project on its own!

The Kathmandu- Terai Fast Track Project is a much awaited project of national interest and carries prospects for the overall country's economic benefit and long term development.

Following a call for global tender on the project, the then government had tabled a proposal in the cabinet meeting to award the project to “the Consortium” based in India. However, serious concerns were raised by a group of cabinet members and experts over the extremely high costs, financial viability of the project associated with the risk in the form of minimum revenue guarantee laid out in the proposal.

Following a writ filed by two advocates; supreme court intervened in the then government's decision to award the contract on 8 October 2015 until court's further decision. No decision was reached until Supreme court quashed the writ filed by two advocates following K.P Oli led government's decision to construct the project itself through policies and programs, managing financial and skilled resources internally.

This is an appreciative decision, that not only boosts Nepal's ability, confidence and self reliance but also gives an opportunity to identify and mobilize internal resources and utilize both the skilled and unskilled manpower of the country; discouraging brain drain and migration to foreign countries.

Nepal can execute this project on its own! I signed the petition. Please, JOIN THE CALL!

Petition Against Loadshedding

It’s a bitter truth that we Nepalese have to accept the fact regarding the load shedding and its consequences, which we have to face still for how many years, we do not know. Hence Load Shedding is a state of national crisis for which every individual of this nation should contribute his/her possible effort to eradicate this problem. But the issue arises, how we can solve this problem? Definitely this whole problem can’t be neutralized to zero level but somehow we can contribute our best to minimize this problem.

As everybody knows the whole economy of the nation is in danger according to the professionals. This whole state of energy crisis is the resultant of us, against which we should have our best effort to eliminate it. Many hydroelectricity projects are ready to be initiated but it takes many years to start providing its service.

Hence, we don’t have any alternatives to accompany with present problem rather than managing alternative sources to fulfill the power need at present.

From PETITION AGAINST LOADSHEDDING- NEPAL

This petition is an initiation to put pressure on the concerned authority to solve the problem of loadshedding. It's been years, still the problem is same and people are more desperate and somehow been use to with the loadshedding. And through this petition we are raising our voice against LOADSHEDDING.

Stop Elephant Race, Soccer and Beauty Pageant Competition in Nepal

For the past ten years, Nepal has been hosting elephant festival that includes “The Elephant Games”.

The games feature trained elephants playing human sports, like soccer and racing. Elephants are forced to run in the competition and if they don't obey then they are beaten with sickle and bull hooks. The elephants are also subjected to a beauty pageant where their toes and other body parts are painted with toxic paints. But, being an aware citizen or a responsible tourist, it is our duty to raise voice against such activities. Action must be taken to spare these endangered animals from being used as toys for human entertainment.

The annual December festival is the attempt of Nepal to promote tourism and conservation awareness of endangered Asian elephants but if we see nicely then this has been only an attempt to promote tourism. We can compare this condition with two tyres of a cycle where one tyre seems in very loose condition. Elephants are an endangered species in Nepal, and they are facing severe habitat loss and such competition has made the problem more deeper. These games do not promote any kind of conservation for their environment and within the next four years the organizer committee hope to build a stadium designed specifically to house the elephant games. If they succeed to build such stadium then it will be one of the most shameful and selfish step in the name of conservation.

These games are unethical to the elephant species. The animals are subjected to ridicule and forced to perform human acts so that people can be entertained. Attending an elephant game is no different than going to a circus. Endangered species should not be subjected to such types of forceful entertainment. They should be in their natural habitats, and we should do whatever possible to protect them.

The people of Nepal need to realize that forcing elephants to perform ridiculous acts is not going to help conservation efforts. So, we need to work on other alternatives for the conservation.

Stop cruel dog killings in Nepal

In February 2013, a group of Nepalese policemen brutally killed a dog who had bitten a number of people, using a gun and bamboo sticks. Despite the fact that humane solutions like Animal Birth Control/Anti Rabies have been introduced in Nepal a decade ago, authorities continue to kill dogs inhumanely using strychnine poison, guns or sticks.

A video of the cruel killing can be viewed here:

Stop tree slaughter in Kathmandu Valley

As part of a road widening scheme, hundreds of trees, including ancient and sacred ones, are being cut down in Kathmandu and Patan.

The once green cities are turning into concrete jungles. As trees decrease temperatures and pollution and absorb water, city dwellers and animals increasingly are unable to cope. The tree felling arguably is driven by corruption through the sales of the wood.

Humane training for twin elephants Nepal

Ram and Laxman are twin bull elephants which are about to receive training. Traditional training methods leave elephant calves traumatised and injured (see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sKUDW2y3H-0).

Humane training has been introduced in Nepal but is still in its infancy. Evidence based humane training methods avoid trauma, improves the bond between animal and caretaker and leads to happy, confident and obedient working elephants.

Nepal will not deserve credit for continuing traditional training methods. Providing humane training to the twins will set a positive example for the future and will ensure that Ram and Laxman will be handled with love and care.
