Stop the Milton Street Airport Development in Mackay — Protect Our Community and Local Character

The Milton Street Precinct is a commercial and retail development being constructed on land next to Mackay Airport. While it promises future business growth, the project is expected to permanently alter the identity of our community.

The area currently reflects Mackay’s unique character — a peaceful mix of sugarcane fields, open space, and modest development. This project introduces large-scale commercial activity just steps from residential neighborhoods and farmland. It risks:

Increasing traffic congestion on Milton Street and surrounding roads

Disrupting the quiet, regional identity of the airport approach

Encouraging further overdevelopment at the cost of green space and local charm

Putting pressure on existing infrastructure and small local businesses

Many Mackay residents value our community’s laid-back atmosphere, scenic approach to the airport, and agricultural roots. The Milton Precinct project does not reflect these values and appears to prioritize commercial interests over community well-being.

Petition in Support of Revitalizing Sarnia’s Airport for a Stronger, Sustainable Future

A Unified Vision for Sarnia’s Future – Revitalizing Our Airport

Sarnia stands at a pivotal moment in its development. With major projects like the proposed nuclear plant on the horizon, we must take decisive steps to ensure our community remains economically strong, innovative, and self-sustaining. A revitalized airport is a critical piece of this future, offering opportunities for business expansion, skilled trades, STEM education, and sustainable development.

The airport’s redevelopment would enhance regional connectivity, support economic growth, and create new job opportunities while reinforcing Sarnia’s role as a leader in industry and innovation. By integrating partnerships with Indigenous communities, educational institutions, and local businesses, we can build a future-ready transportation hub that benefits everyone.

Now is the time to secure long-term investment in our city’s infrastructure. A fully operational airport would reduce reliance on government funding, open doors for global business partnerships, and support youth involvement in aviation, engineering, and sustainable energy.

We urge our leaders, policymakers, and community stakeholders to prioritize the reopening and development of Sarnia’s airport. This is not just an infrastructure project—it’s an investment in our future.

Stop "Road Diet" on WOODSTOCK AVENUE/ROUTE 4

The City Board of Highway Commissioners has voted to remove the current four traffic lanes on Woodstock Ave/ Route 4 to a 'Road Diet' which is lane changing to two through lanes with a dedicated center turn lane and bike paths along each curb.
The primary concern revolves around the reduction of thru-lanes as part of the "road diet." This change was already proven in 2014 to impede traffic fluidity and exacerbate congestion, causing frustration among drivers and deterred visitors from coming to our area with fewer thru-lanes available, there were significant traffic backups during peak hours, which lead to productivity losses for businesses and increased emissions from idling vehicles. This was done before Killington Ski Area opened for the season and without the skier traffic added to the already bottlenecked traffic jams. Businesses along Woodstock Avenue relies heavily on the skiers passing though to Killington Ski Area which is detrimental to there Business's survival.
During the 2014 "road Diet" a much higher traffic count on side streets resulted from the "road diet" trying to bypass Woodstock Avenue. The concern for a much higher number of accidents and collisions on these side streets, endangering the safety of pedestrians, cyclists, and residents in the area is a higher risk this time around. The sudden influx of traffic onto streets ill-equipped to handle it may pose a serious threat to our community's overall safety. Currently NE Elementary School, Rutland High School & Stafford Technical Ceter are all located on the side streets which effects the traffic on Woodstock Avenue.
During the 2014 "Road Diet" we also witnessed bikers still riding on the sidewalks, A MAN PUSHING A BABY IN A BABY CARRIAGE IN THE BIKE LANE, little children riding their bike in the bike lane where tractor trailers travel very frequently on this road directly right next to them.
We also witnessed Firetrucks and ambulances not able to get to the accidents due to the bottlenecked traffic. A Tractor Trailer could not get to his destination due to the traffic jams so the driver unhooked his cab and left his truck in the turning lane going to Irving Oil causing a standstill in traffic.
Additionally, it is important to note that similar attempts to implement a "road diet" in our community have been made in the past. However, these attempts were ultimately reversed due to the very concerns raised in this petition. The decision to revert these changes underscores the validity of our worries and highlights the need to REVERSE THE VOTE and take into consideration the unique characteristics and needs of our neighborhood.
Route 4 is the only direct main arteries between New York and New Hampshire which skiers travel to get to the Killington Ski area. Killington host The Womens World Cup each year with over 30,000 spectators flocking to our area and the most attended women's Aido FIS Ski World event. It is very concerning to see how this will effect one lane going to Killington on Woodstock Avenue with the added peak hours of schools. The World Cup was not part of the traffic count in 2014 because it did not start holding the tournament in Killington until 2016.
In light of the past experiences, we urge our city leaders to learn from the lessons of the past and collaborate with the community to find solutions that strike a balance between safety, traffic flow, and the overall quality of life for our residents and supporting our Businesses.

Reconstruct the Bike Path at Sunset Beach

The bike path, known as Ke Ala Pupukea, was built nearly 30 years ago, and extends 3.5 miles through Sunset Beach. Due to aging, salt and sun damage, wear and tear, and tree roots pushing up the asphalt, the time has come to reconstruct this well-utilized path. It is dangerous. Seniors, dog walkers, moms with strollers, along with the many bike riders use the bike path daily. There are many tourists and locals from other parts of Oahu who use the path, too.

Ke Ala Pupukea was created by the City and County of Honolulu under the Harris Administration in 1994, and landscaped primarily by NSOC volunteers. These same NSOC volunteers, along with residents, maintained and cared for the small trees and shrubs along the bike path. Eight years ago, the City and County took over the care for Ke Ala Pupukea. This resulted in virtually no care or maintenance. It is important to note that the bike path was never built to code in the first place.

It is the only route between the beach roads and Kamehameha Highway for our children to pedal back and forth from Sunset Beach Elem., the skate park, the rec center, and tennis courts at Shark's Cove as well as all of the surf breaks in our neighborhood.

Note: Sponsorship donations go to adding the petition to the gopetition website front page and other places to get more exposure. They don't go to our organization.

Chip and Seal Keystone Rd Vinton, OH

As many of you know who travels Keystone Road in Vinton by my house the dust from the bad road is horrible. There is only a 3 to 4 mile stretch that needs chip and sealed. The last few years traffic on Keystone has picked up do to people who travel to work or just to the stores they are taking Keystone because it' s a shorter route. My family can't even sit outside due to the dust being so bad the only time we get relief from it is if it poors down the rain. The dust gets so bad you can not even see. It gets all over everything we own even in the house . They came out and put dust control on it that lasted not even a week and we were told there wasn't anything else they could do this year. I am starting this petition in hopes to get 1,000 signatures to present to the Gallia County Engineer's office as well as the county garage. I am hoping to get the 3 to 4 mile stretch chip and sealed in their 2022 budget.

County Investment for County Roads in Rogers MN for Neighbors, Commuters, and Kids

Updates 2025:
We, the undersigned residents, business owners, and concerned citizens of Rogers, are writing to formally renew and reinvigorate our 2021 petition for accountable action to address the growing concerns surrounding pedestrian safety and road infrastructure within our city limits. Our community deserves better protection, improved infrastructure, and investments that prioritize the safety of every individual—whether they are walking, biking, or driving.

Why We Need Action Now
This is not just a matter of statistics; this is about lives—our neighbors, families, and children. Distracted driving and construction have compounded the known risks on county roads. The population in and around Rogers continues to grow.

Pedestrian safety is a fundamental issue that affects our daily lives. Several intersections, crosswalks, and areas near schools, parks, and local businesses are in urgent need of enhancements to prevent further accidents. Having engaged with the County Commissioner's office we understand that statistics guide investment in safety. However, we continue to request that the wellbeing of citizens be considered subjectively. Much of Rogers is separated and surround by throughway county roads. Neighborhoods often require that pedestrians cross busy roadways to reach amenities, such as parks.

Statistics should not be a substitute for safety. The lack of sufficient pedestrian trails, proper signage, and safe crossing points only exacerbates the risk.

[First petition shared in 2021:]
Rogers is developing at a fast rate and is still viewed as a rural or third-tier suburb, according to Hennepin County.
The growth rate of Rogers and the larger area has caused traffic to increase. As major home developments grow the surrounding population, the traffic problems are only compounded.
Rogers is already divided by i-94. But neighborhoods and associations have become more fragmented by high-speed county roads with little shoulder room for pedestrians.
We are asking for the following:
1. Brockton Lane N: Suitable speed zones for families. Suitably marked pedestrian crossings to connect our neighborhoods and associations. Families represent the majority of these homes. Today the only reasonable means of crossing this 55 MPH zone is to hope for someone like a friendly semi driver to stop traffic for kids and parents.
1a. Brockton Lane N should have multiple turn lanes and widened shoulders to make room for pedestrian traffic.
2. A study and long-term development of the area along Cty 144 that divides Rogers Highschool and Community Center, and Rogers Middle School and north community park. We need this area to be safe and relieved of the congestion.
3. We need Cty 116 to connect to Cty 81, so that it bypasses Main St, Rogers. North of 116 was closed for a traffic circle and additional development just this year. The diverted traffic was most unwelcome and disruptive to school traffic.
3a. Cty 116 should be widened or a distinct pedestrian cycling lane added to connect Crow Hassan Park area through to Brockton Ln N/Cty 101. This would work to connect parks and major roadways to regional trails.

Comments and Feedback
Information and comments will be collected from residents during the petitioning period and may be included in submissions to Hennepin County and representatives.

History and Some Major Community Citings
Exhibit A: Brockton Lane N
Brockton Meadows Association has over 100 homes. Brockton Meadows Park is just west of Brockton Lane N. Over 40 homes are on the east side of Brockton Meadows Association.
Birchwood Estates is a new development that will put another 61 homes to the east of Brockton Lane N with the park destination on the other side of the high-speed county road.
Additional development in Dayton east on N Diamond Lake Rd causes additional traffic. Further development in Otsego compounds the problem and risks.

Exhibit B: N Diamond Lake - Cty 144
The Rogers High School and Middle School are home to over 2,000 students and staff. The Community Center and Recreation facility is in this area. This is an area that requires cooperation between multiple entities. The city of Rogers has made several changes to make the best of a stick traffic area. However, there is a need for further development.

Exhibit C: Territorial Road - Cty 116 and Main St
Neighborhood developments in Rogers have pushed out to Cty Rd 116. Traffic is a major concern. The Rogers Elementary School sits along Main St, and a big park project will expand the amenities and fields adjacent to the school. Another development is being built along Cty 116 in the near future, compounding these traffic concerns.

Exhibit D: Fletcher Bypass - Cty 116 to 81
A study in 2008 occurred to review suburb traffic along the i-94 NW corridor. It deemed Cty 116 and Fletcher/Cty 116 performing unacceptably. Today this intersection has a temporary traffic light and no left turn to detour to Cty 81. The N Fletcher gravel stretch of road that connects to Cty 81 is not a reasonable option for rush hour traffic.

Rogers put more money forward in 2018. (See article: https://www.hometownsource.com/press_and_news/community/rogers/plans-continue-for-extension-of-fletcher-bypass-in-rogers/article_ff7a463a-c1bd-11e8-9413-cf28199ee626.html ) The city of Rogers has been waiting for the execution of the Fletcher Bypass project. Exhibit C states that traffic has and will only become more problematic along Main St, which passes by our main south community park and elementary school. For decades, the bypass has been studied to help relieve Main St of wear and tear and risk to children and neighbors. Main St will be developed soon with major projects scheduled, only exacerbating the problems.

No Golf Carts On The Midland Trace Trail

The City of Westfield is temporarily allowing golf carts on the Midland Trace Trail (MITT), Ordinance No 18-50, with plans, according to one city council member, to allow golf carts on the Monon Trail (MNT) as well. The intent is for these high-speed motorized vehicles to become a permanent fixture on the trails.
The MITT is a through-way for traditionally used by pedestrians and cyclists for outdoor recreation.
There are several concerns regarding this issue:
1. Safety-golf cart size and speed, trail condition
2. Pollution affecting exerciser health
3. Lack of golf cart over site by police: speed, under age drivers and golf cart inspection
4. Linked communities via the trail do not allow golf carts on their portion of the trails.
Allowing golf carts on the trail will create a significant hazard for all and as Westfield grows there will be more golf carts on the trail if this Ordinance is allowed.
