Stop Modi Visit to South Africa

The Kashmir dispute has been dominating the India-Pakistan relationship ever since the birth of the two states in 1947. It has also played a significant role in border disputes between China and India over Askai Chin (a portion of Kashmir). Kashmir lies between three of the most populous countries of the world: India, China and Pakistan, covering a land mass of over 80,000 square kilometres – almost the size of the United Kingdom (UK), and inhabiting over 17 million people (Lamb, 1991: 6).

The struggle over the Kashmir valley has been one of the most prolonged disputes of the last century. Since the controversial arrival of Indian forces in Kashmir on 27 October 1947, the territory of Jammu and Kashmir (often referred to simply as Kashmir) has been divided by a ceasefire line or Line of Control (LoC) between sides under Pakistani and Indian control, respectively. Since 1947, India and Pakistan have failed to reach a consensus on the territory of Kashmir. Instead, they have fought three wars (1948, 1965, and 1971), and almost had a nuclear showdown in 1999 (known as the Kargil War). There have been two United Nations (UN) mandated ceasefires, in 1949 and 1965 and 58 United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions (Wheeler, 2010: 319-344). Most recently, the world witnessed another stand-off between the two nuclear arch-rivals in a suicide attack in the Pulwana region on 14 February 2019, in which 40 Indian paramilitary police were killed (Herrara, 2019).

Covid-19 has caused the SA Adventure-, Lifeskill-, Leadership-, Education- and Sport Camps-and-Tours to halt to an almost 100% stop. Department of Education officials in charge of approvals for the events, some HOD's and other role players, advocate that these excursions are not safe and cannot be executed. All the scientific research has proven the statement of school camps not being a safe option during Covid-19, is false.

This situation is causing a humanitarian crisis with lively hoods being lost, with no income to buy basic food, medicine, basic utilities like electricity bills or even to attempt paying any financial institution on outstanding debts that have not been put on hold.
All other economic segments have been open as part of the Government's recovery program, but School camps and Tours have been left one side and forgotten and forced not to function as normal business entities, even at lower quantity of learners attending camps.

Children's Voices Matter

On Monday 17 Feb 2020, members of the Western Cape Parliamentary Committee on Social Development were not happy to see children and young people attend the interviews of candidates for the position of Western Cape Commissioner for Children.

Those who attended the interviews met, on Saturday 21 February 2020 in Atlantis, to discuss what happened and the way forward. We concluded the following. We were;
•	excited to attend and observe the interviews
•	disturbed by the unfriendly welcome received
•	ignored and felt excluded from the process
•	intimidated by the cold treatment received

We decided to take the following action;
•	Draft a statement of complaint to the Western Cape Provincial Parliament, The Committee on Social Development and The Premier
•	Launch a petition to rally children to support and demand the right to take part in any proceedings of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament; especially if it concerns and affect children.

The right to participate is an important right of children. It includes the right to be informed, consulted and take part in decisions that concern and affect children. Child participation rights are interlinked to children’s basic rights to be provided with care and services, and their rights to protection.

The statement and petition will be sent to the Speaker and Members of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament; and the Premier of the Province.

We call on children (persons under 18 years), to support his statement and petition.

FIX ZEMVELO ROAD

I would hereby like to draw your attention to the neglect of the R907 to Ezemvelo Nature Reserve. This road is in poor condition and is having a number of socio-economic impacts on the businesses relying on it as well as the community in the area. Futhermore, over the past year it has fallen on the farming and business community in the area to try and maintain the road as best they can which we feel is unacceptable.
The road is corrugated and has a number of erosion gulleys spanning the width of the road. This coupled with inadequate signage for hazards makes the road hazardous to drive at times.

Community:

Lack of transport as no vehicles are willing to regularly travel the road to collect community members. Community members must hitch hike, walk or bike (for those that have) the 20km to the dirt road.
School busses - the school busses do not operate effectively and often break down on the road leaving children without the basic right of access to education. Furthermore, for the busses to travel on the road, the road should be in an acceptable condition (which it is not) as to insure the safety of children using the service in the area.

Business

Ezemvelo Nature Reserve employs 10 permanent staff and makes use of numerous contract workers during the course of the year, thereby making a substantial contribution in terms of salaries. The road is having an adverse impact on on income as the reserve relies on tourism to fund its operations. With the road in the current condition, we are experiencing loss of clientele who simply will not travel on the road to our property. For example, we hosted an event this year that only drew in 50% of the previous years visitors numbers. When visitors were asked, some said they would not return due to the state of the road.

NPO

Furthermore, Ezemvelo is owned by a section 18 PBO, not for profit organization. The organization educates previously disadvantaged youth at university level (Maharishi Institute.) The above capital impacts from the road directly impact the PBO as they are responsible for covering any losses accrued by the business.

Vehicles

Further capital impact is seen in inputs to vehicle maintenance. Constant repairs to suspension, tyres and other parts (well above normal) are required due to the poor condition of the road.

Harsh Effective Punishment to All Rapists (HEPAR)

“Girls On The Move” is an organisation for young women by young women with the vision and aim of helping
fellow young women with the challenges they face in their daily lives. We have programs that assist the youth in
need with the following
 Donation of sanitary pads,
 Donation of school stationery,
 Assistance with school and tertiary application forms and processes
 Girl talk sessions
Through our program we strive to engender the spreading of self love, self and general knowledge and care with
girls and young women from disadvantaged families and communities.

One of our flagship campaigns is the “The Cry Of The Girl Child” campaign. Through this initiative we recognize and provide a platform and
channel for the young people we work with. Through this platform the young people voice and tackle the
emotional and general challenges that the girl child faces. We are extending this campaign by including the HEPAR petition.

It is estimated that over 40% of South African women will be raped in their lifetime.Rape has become a norm in South Africa.Rapists are captured, imprisoned for a while then released. The imprisonment time is inadequate. When rapists are eventually released early,it causes emotional harm to the victims.Worst case scenario that is predominant currently is rapists are not captured and are able to walk freely. This is main reason why victims don't report or the the law is undermined. We are appealing the harshest punishment to rapists, from forced penectomy, to damaging their genitals to never have sexual intercourse,to life imprisonment.

Stop single use plastic

Plastic pollution and its toxic impacts on humans, animals, waterways and ocean and the environment. Please sign the petition to appeal for the banning of single use plastic due to its impact on the environment. The Department of environmental affairs claims that it aims to "create a prosperous and equitable society that lives in harmony with our environment"

Plastic never goes away.
Plastic is a durable material made to last forever, yet 33 percent of it is used once and then discarded. Plastic cannot biodegrade; it breaks down into smaller and smaller pieces.

Plastic spoils our groundwater.
There are tens of thousands of landfills across the globe. Buried beneath each one of them, plastic leachate full of toxic chemicals is seeping into groundwater and flowing downstream into lakes and rivers.

Plastic attracts other pollutants.
Manufacturers' additives in plastics, like flame retardants, BPAs and PVCs, can leach their own toxins. These oily poisons repel water and stick to petroleum-based objects like plastic debris.

Plastic threatens wildlife.
Entanglement, ingestion and habitat disruption all result from plastic ending up in the spaces where animals live. In our oceans alone, plastic debris outweighs zooplankton by a ratio of 36-to-1.

Plastic piles up in the environment.
Americans alone discard more than 30 million tons of plastic a year; only 8 percent of it gets recycled. The rest ends up in landfills or becomes 'litter', and a small portion is incinerated.

Plastic poisons our food chain.
Even plankton, the tiniest creatures in our oceans, are eating microplastics and absorbing their toxins. The substance displaces nutritive algae that creatures up the food chain require.

Plastic affects human health.
Chemicals leached by plastics are in the blood and tissue of nearly all of us. Exposure to them is linked to cancers, birth defects, impaired immunity, endocrine disruption and other ailments.

Plastic costs billions to abate.
Everything suffers: tourism, recreation, business, the health of humans, animals, fish and birds—because of plastic pollution. The financial damage continuously being inflicted is inestimable.

Support Blessings Eco Preparatory School Container

The Harvest Project is a mobile NPO which enters complex environments where children are at risk concerning conflict, racism, nationality status, pollution, crime, and humanitarian injustice. It is also an ally which supports and creates a voice for individual eco warriors and communities in today’s world through the medium of documentary. The project aims to provide less fortunate children with a place of safety, nutrition and eco sustainable life skills and knowledge. We believe it doesn’t matter how bad a child’s environment is, we can still create a sign of hope for their future through recognition, love and eco conservation. A vital part of our project is providing children at a early age with the knowledge of how to harvest their own food and to conserve the land. This creates a certain set of skills which can be used to ensure them with salvation in a unpredictable future through respect and conservation of the land which will provide for them. The Harvest Project partnered with a school called Blessings Eco Preparatory School which was formed in a settlement of recyclers called Plastic City in Ekurhuleni Gauteng. The crèche was first founded when a small girl named Blessing was found dying after accidentally consuming poison. The lady who managed to save her life decided she will open a place of safety for the increasing amount of children in Plastic City. The settlement has always owned a complicated and mostly negative relationship with the municipality and the rest of the town of Brakpan. The settlement has become a smoke screen for theft, illegal mining and a huge problem for toxic pollution through the burning of plastic. The burning is creating health concerns for themselves, the children and the rest of the town. This is creating big problems between communities as it’s a uncaring minority in the settlement which doesn’t listen to internal laws and in the bigger picture is creating a bad image for everyone including law abiding recyclers which have nowhere else to go and are actually doing a service which benefits us all. It also being said the burning is taking place due to the municipality not providing them with bins to get rid of the left over rubbish after sorting. There are municipal and police threats saying all the inhabitants must leave due to the land not being safe for human dwelling as there could be present Dolomite. The reality is people have lived here for over 10 years and it’s their home now and they are not moving. We have been offered a beautiful container made by bright kid foundation and sponsored by shoprite. However they need permission to bring the containers onto municipal land if it does belong to them, which is also a unclear assurity. We approached the municipality and the department of social development as we are desperate. We have even offered our help to the municipality to aid with the problems they face with Plastic City to try and create solutions and peace for a better future for all. These children are in a place that owns threats of pollution, police conflicts, xenophobia, and lack of communication and human rights. These children are innocent in this fight between the community and the outside forces. Our present school structure is dilapited and a risk for the children as the rains have arrived and terrible leaking has began. The permission process is taking very long and there are negative rumours being shared. We wish to make the school not just a ECD center but also a humanitarian camp for children that are born here but not registered and seeking asylum. The school is also available for everyone in the area, not just plastic city. It also encourges a future of peace in South Africa between all types of cultures and people. So far shoprite are aiding us with monthly food from the Lunchbox fund, they are providing training through the Early Care Foundation and are aiding us with a garden planted by Food &Trees for Africa.

Lift the prohibition on rhino horn trade

Are you aware that South Africa’s membership of CITES (The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species) began way back in 1975; that, at that time, CITES stood for promoting and regulating the international wildlife trade and stopping the illegal trade; but that its objective, today, is to PROHIBIT the Wildlife Trade.
This has come about because two-thirds of the accredited NGOS at CITES are animal rightist in orientation (whose purpose in life is to abolish all animal uses by man); and because they have ‘captured’ the convention, and the CITES Secretariat.
They also contrive to buy sufficient votes from the state delegates at every convention to be assured of achieving the consensus vote that favours their personal preference (prohibition). This makes the convention 'corrupt'; and an animal rights weapon with immense power. It also works against the best interests of Africa.

The South African public, therefore, wishes that you should provide us with the reason why South Africa remains a member of this organisation; and or why it is necessary that we should be bound by their wildlife trade decisions that work against South Africa’s - and Africa’s - better interests.

Craigavon Traffic

There is a compelling need for traffic calming measures to be taken at the 3 way intersection of Campbell and Randa Roads in Craigavon.
The existing stop street is largely ignored resulting in numerous serious accidents, road rage incidents and blatant disregard for road safety. There are four schools in the vicinity with children being walked to and from school at all times of the day. As well as large numbers of pedestrians at peak times. Speed bumps or an additional traffic circle is urgently required at the intersection to reduce traffic speed and enforce road safety.
