A day later, it became a hurricane while west of the Leeward Islands, and rapidly strengthened into a Category 5 hurricane for a brief period.

Between October 4-6. 016. The storm ravaged the islands of our Nation leaving a wake of devastation!

Privacy is a Right in the Bahamas

We as a people have a right to privacy in our own cars. The reason so many vehicles are being broken into is because just how the police want to see in your car, so can the criminals. No one should be able to see into your car without your consent. Just because of a few bad apples must we all be treated as criminals?

My car is like a second home to me and the same way persons shouldn't be able to just come and look in my house as they please they shouldn't be able to do it to my car. Not only is it affecting our privacy but we all know the sun in The Bahamas does not play.

These tints also protect our skin from the harmful UV rays we are constantly exposed to and that can cause harmful damage, disease and death if not checked. This is a matter of protection for ourselves and our belongings.

If you agree, sign this petition. It's time for us, as a people, to stand together for what we believe. The Government should not be able to pass or even remove any law they choose without our input.

Save the Walls at Coral Harbour

The walls that border Coral Harbour Roundabout are in jeopardy of being destroyed by a private developer. We categorically OBJECT to this and petition the Bahamas Department of Physical Planning NOT to issue permission for the destruction of these walls.

The Coral Harbour stone walls have been in existence for over half a century acting as a landmark to the area. They are of historical and social significance and are a likely candidate for classification as a national 'landmark' or 'antiquity'.

The walls hold enormous emotional importance to the residents of the area who consider them an integral part of their community and neighbourhood. Over the years, generations of residents and members of associations, have come together as a community to repair, repaint, and maintain the walls and the general area at the entrance to the neighbourhood. These walls form a part of the history of the area and the lives of those who reside in Coral Harbour.

In an era of diminishing community and familial ties globally, residents in Coral Harbour feel strongly that these fabrics of their own community be preserved. Not only a focal point of the area, these walls provide a focal discussion point for the origins of Coral Harbour in the late 50’s and the development of the area.

Residents are also concerned that property values will decrease if the walls are removed, leaving no buffer between commercial and residential sectors. The walls provide an attractive and affluent perception of Coral Harbour that is unique in Nassau and separates it from other subdivisions. The removal of the walls will absolutely change the visual landscape of the area as you exit the Coral Harbour road and therefore change the perception of the area and property values as a result.

Coral Harbour residents and allies stand united in their aim to preserve their neighbourhood and their community and say “NO” to the destruction of these structures and any other changes to their communal landscape without consultation.

Land Reform and Justice for All in the Bahamas

PLEASE SIGN THE BELOW PETITION.

In recent years, numerous land disputes have come before our Courts. Some have been going on for years without resolution. Many innocent unsuspecting Bahamians have been defrauded of their properties because of unscrupulous actions by greedy landsharks. Many of these victims purchased their properties through local banks, whose approved lawyer (from the bank's list of approved lawyers) informed both the victim and the bank that after completing a proper title search, the title was good and marketable. The banks then advanced money for the property and the purchaser made monthly payments to the bank until the loan was paid off.

The property owner later discovers that someone else or some company is claiming to be the owner of the property and a long process of litigation begins. The victim now faces the stress and financial burden of litigation and becomes fearful of losing their home or property. CITIZENS FOR JUSTICE is an organization that advocates for victims' rights and justice for all.

This PETITION is to encourage government intervention and action on behalf of the many land and homeowners throughout the Bahamas, who have been afffected including property owners in Pinewood Gardens, Nassau Village and Sir Lynden Pindling Estates. The establishment of a land register along with the the enactment of the relevant legislation, will benefit thousands of Bahamians crying out for JUSTICE.

It has been proven that a proper system of land registration promotes prosperity in developing countries, causing ALL landowners to be granted secure property rights. Other benefits are that the landowner will have investment collateral, sustainable land use and income opportunities. The system presently in use has greatly disadvantaged the poor. Proper land reform and the establishment of a land register in the Bahamas will prevent landowners from becoming victims of fraud and land disputes since each title will be guaranteed by the state. Land transfer will become quite simple and there will be no need for repetitive title investigation.

Land known as GENERATION property will be regularized and rightful and deserving family members will be granted good and marketable in fee simple estate by the Courts.

CITIZENS FOR JUSTICE is calling on Bahamians all over the Bahamas to sign the PETITION. Most countries in the Caribbean and around the world have a land register for the protection of their citizens. Ireland, a nation of 4.2 million persons, has one of the most advanced land registers in Europe. Currently 95% of all land mass in Ireland is registered and over 85% of all legal titles are registered with their Property Registration Authority, which was established in 2006. Their register is scheduled to be completed in 2010. Funding for setting up land registration can be obtained from the World Bank and the Inter-American Bank among other agencies.

Concerned Bahamians are urged to SIGN THE PETITION. We will all benefit including future generations.

Repeal of Penal Code 110 part 1

April 22, 2006

This petition is in response to the growing juvenile delinquency problem in the Commonwealth of the Bahamas. There are numerous cases in the Juvenile Court system with no resolve.

This may be due to the Penal Code 110; which states: "A blow or other force, not in any case extending to a wound or grievous harm, may be justified for the purpose of correction, as follows-
(1) a parent may correct his or her legitimate or illegitimate child, being under sixteen years of age, or any guardian or person acting as a guardian, his ward, being under sixteen years of age, for misconduct or disobedience to any lawful command;

This petition addresses the age of sixteen; which gives rights to those over sixteen; but under eighteen years of age, the legal age for being responsible for ones self.

Stop Dolphin Facility at Atlantis Resort in The Bahamas

November 19, 2005

Atlantis Resort in The Bahamas has plans to operate a dolphin facility in the very near future and they are already building the pens necessary for this. More than likely their dolphins will be sourced from the wild.

There is scientific evidence that suggests capturing dolphins is undeniably stressful and removing them from their natural habitat can be detrimental to their populations. Additionally, there is no benefit biologically, educationally or geographically to Dolphinariums and many dolphins die as a result of being housed in them.

Please write Kerzner's CEO Mr. Butch kerzner and urge him to abandon his dolphin facility.
