Petition to Offer Relief for Essential Utility Repairs to Denver Residents

The Goal: To ease the financial burden on Denver residents by providing support for essential utility repairs. This initiative aims to make home maintenance more affordable, ensuring that homeowners can care for their properties without facing exorbitant costs. Doing so will enhance living standards and protect property values across the community.

The Problem: The residents of Denver are struggling with the high costs associated with essential utility repairs, exacerbated by the state's economic challenges and severe weather conditions. Plumbing repairs, in particular, can be very expensive, especially if the homeowner hasn't been booking regular inspections with Denver plumbers to catch small issues early on. Even something as small as a leaking pipe can cost thousands of dollars to repair if left unchecked for long enough.

This places homeowners in a bind, forcing them to choose between accumulating debt to afford necessary repairs or postponing maintenance to save money—a choice that is particularly difficult for those without emergency funds.

The repercussions of delaying these repairs can be severe. If not promptly addressed, minor issues can escalate, leading to extensive damage and further financial strain. Although Denver boasts reputable plumbing services, the high costs render them inaccessible to a significant portion of the population, resulting in a decline in the condition of many homes. This deterioration affects not just the individual homeowner but also has a negative impact on the overall community, lowering neighborhood property values and harming the communal well-being.

The issue at hand is not merely the immediate cost of repairs but also the long-term impact on homeowners' investments. For many, a home is more than a residence—it's a critical component of their financial security. The current crisis threatens this investment, placing undue pressure on homeowners and risking the financial health of the broader community.

The Solution: The most optimal solution would be the establishment of a financial aid program specifically designed to assist homeowners with the costs associated with significant utility repairs. Recognizing the broader implications of home repair issues, which can affect not only the individual homeowner but also the surrounding community, this program would involve a means-tested, low-interest loan program. This program is intended to offer essential support to homeowners facing unexpected repair needs, helping to prevent a slew of negative outcomes such as decreased property values, financial hardship due to repair expenses, and a decline in overall quality of life.

While home insurance policies might offer some coverage, they often do not extend to the full range of necessary repairs. Our approach seeks to bridge this gap, ensuring that homeowners are not left to fend for themselves. The advantages of this proposal are numerous. By facilitating timely and efficient repairs, we can avert additional damage and related costs, preserve home values, and sustain community living standards.

Additionally, this program would underscore a commitment to solidarity and support within the community, demonstrating a collective dedication to preserving the stability and prosperity of our neighborhoods. It acknowledges the vital importance of home maintenance in maintaining the overall health and resilience of our community.

Rename Bellambi Pools Park to Colin Hunter Park.

Colin Hunter or "Colza" as he was known to the local south coast surf community, passed away surfing at Sandon Point on the 22nd May 2017. The surfing icon was affectionately known as the Lord Mayor of Bellambi. Col had been surfing his local wave for 50 years and was well known within the surfing fraternity. Anyone that grew up around the area, knew Colza. He was easily recognisable by his standard attire and carefree dress sense which consisted of tracky daks, flanno, ripped tees, beanies and thongs.

Col lived life on his terms. What was special about him, was the fact he never changed. He lived a simple life, taking care of his elderly mum and fixing push bikes for a living. He was a real genuine kind hearted human being.

Col had a symbiotic relationship with the ocean. It was never about competition in the water. He was a true soul surfer in every sense. Every day for as long as I can remember, he would check the surf. He'd cruise past my house on his way to the beach, riding his trusty "bits and pieces" push bike, carrying a wetsuit that had more holes than his patched up old school surfboard. He never locked up his bike at the beach, because everyone knew it belonged to Bellambi royalty. It was a life changing moment, when Col aged 60 got his license and started driving a car again. He had been riding a push bike for 35 years. The last time anyone recalls him driving was in the mid to late 70's.

Colza was a big kid at heart, "a froffer" that loved being around his mates and the ocean. He was a big uncle to many kids in Bellambi, teaching them how to surf, swim and dive. If you got a good wave or did a decent turn, Col was the first person to let you know about it. He didn't miss a thing.

He understood tides and swells and rarely missed a good day of waves. In his younger days, Col had reputation for surfing big Bellambi bombie by himself. He admired so many local surfers, having watched most of them develop over the years.

Col loved life , he loved to laugh and telling stories to anyone that shared his passion for the ocean. He was a unique character, a one of a kind.

If you ever did a surf check at Bellambi, you could almost put your house on seeing him at the beach. Col would be sitting at the picnic table, with messed up salty white hair, cracking jokes with the local crew, watching the waves. If he wasn't there, you would see his bike and knew he was out in the surf, doing soulful bottom turns and cruisy cutbacks on what he called the "lousy lefts" or "rotten rights", all the way to the beach. It didn't matter what board was under Colza's feet, as long it floated him he was going surfing. I can't say I ever saw him with a new board. He would fix up old boards and ride them, that's what made him happy.

He was the custodian of the beach, and It won't be the same driving down to Bellambi car park and not seeing him there. Colza has always been the positive constant, in a suburb that can test the best of us. He loved surfing, it gave him a sense of freedom. There is no questioning his love for Bellambi Beach.

For someone that had very little, he really had everything he needed. The saying less is more, really makes sense when I think of Col. He never complained about a thing, and selflessly put others before himself. It was the small things that made him happy, like pizza and beer nights with the boys. If more people lived like Colza, the world would be a much brighter place. He always said it's not what you want that makes you happy, its what you already have - so be happy !

I want to publicly thank the lads at Sandon Point that tried to revive Col. He may have surfed his last wave, but he was doing the thing he loved most. I don't think he would of wanted to go any other way. To all that know him, his surfing brothers and sisters, his family and friends my thoughts go out to you. His passing has bought the entire surfing community even closer together.

Bellambi Pools Park should be renamed to "Colin Hunter Park". It's only befitting that the Lord Mayor of Bellambi has his name associated with the beach, he has surfed and watched over for so many years. The Pools was his happy place. A meeting place where long lasting friendships were formed and countless waves were surfed.

Cols legend will live on and his spirit will be felt for years to come. To Col "Bellambi Pools" was a special place, it was his perfect paradise.

RIP Colza - You will be missed and never forgotten.

Keep our Crosses and allow Headstones in Carpenders Park Cemetery

My Mum Aileen O' Keeffe, was buried in Carpenders Park Cemetery.

We received a letter from Brent Council advising us that the some graves on the Harrow site, will be put to grass by the 6th May2014 and then to rotate all graves in that area to be put to lawn. Nothing happened on the 6th May, instead without any notice on Friday 6th June, workers were out putting the Crosses and flowers any Memorabilia into plastic bags. People were devastated on visiting their loved ones.

We are aware this is a lawn cemetery however it doesn’t seem to have been in practice for many years as most graves have been maintained by family or left unattended. Kevin Cooney and Brent & Harrow Council didn't stick by the contract then so why now?

If you visit Carpenders Park you will see that on any a chosen day it is a hive of activity. In fact firm friendships have been made over the years by grave owners tending the graves of their loved ones on a daily basis. Lunches and flasks of coffee shared on benches while reminiscing, in fact these friendships have got a lot of the bereaved through very difficult times.

I find it most distressing to find that here in Harrow we now have no burial place as Christians where we can marked our loved ones final resting place with a cross. A CROSS the earliest and most significant symbol of marking a grave. This is a Christian county, and a cross on a grave traditionally signifies the last resting place.

All denominations should be allowed to remember their loved ones with pride.
All religions in Carpenters Park, have come together to sign this petition we all need to stick together and fight for our loved ones memory.

Save Our Lives - Support the WA Government's Shark Policy

There have been seven fatal shark attacks in WA in the last three years. The risk of shark attack is beginning to influence the enjoyment that Western Australian's have always derived from our beautiful beaches and water activities. Users of the ocean are reporting increased sightings of large sharks.

The public called for action. The Government responded and announced that baited drum lines will soon be set 1 kilometre from shore at selected beaches between January and April. Sharks caught by the drum lines will be humanely destroyed.

In addition to continuing surveillance and research into shark behaviour it is important that supporters of the plan let the WA Government know they agree.
