We Want Harsher Sentencing for Rapists in Fiji

Rapist SHOULD be charged with harsher sentencing to pay for what they have done to innocent lives. They have left horrible scars for a lifetime which some victims will never ever forget. While an offence of rape already carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment in Fiji therefore the penalty for the offence cannot be increased any further. However we feel that the sentencing 7 to 15 years of imprisonment for the rape of adults and 10 to 16 years for the rape of minors is not fair for rape victims.

We demand harsher penalties for child rapists and for relatives/ those individuals in whom children have placed their trust in, but who have betrayed that trust by violating their bodies.

In addition we also demand Fijian Government to open up a Sex Offenders Register in Fiji. Everyone that commits a sex crime must be registered and their movement after they have served their jail time to be monitored by the Fiji Police Force. It will be a mandatory requirement when they move from one place to another that they inform police and police are to inform the community that they are moving into.

Australia, NZ, USA and even Samoa have a sex offenders' register. A sex offender register is a life sentence alternative - people who are registered sex offenders cannot have their records with police expunged when they apply for a rehab certificate. It is going to be there until they die.

- 23-year-old man raped an 8-year-old girl and was given only 13 years jail time in 2014.

- 22-year-old man raped an 9-year-old boy and was given 9 years jail time in 2014.

- 41-year-old man raped a 19-year-old and a 20-year-old woman and was given 13 years jail time in 2015.

- 75-year-old man raped his granddaughter who was in class one from 2008 to 2011 and was given 11 years jail time in 2015.

- 31-year-old man raped 6-year-old girl and was given 10 years and 6 months jail time in 2015.

- A young man raped 63-year-old man and was given 8 years jail time in 2015.

- 34-year-old man raped 12-year-old girl in 2011 and was given 13 years and 9 months jail time in 2015.

- 55-year-old man raped his 23-year-old daughter and was given 11 years jail time in 2015.

- 37-year- old man raped his 2 daughters over a period of 9 years and was given 16 years jail time in 2015.

- 36-year-old man raped his 14-year-old daughter was given 14 years jail time in 2015.

- 56-year-old man began the sexual abuse when his daughter was 13 years old. He continued raping her until the victim turned 17 he was given 17 years jail time in 2015.

Fiji has suffered 27 years of coup culture. The worst is December 2006 coup executed by Voreqe Bainimarama and which resulted in Fiji being under dictatorship for 08 years.

Fijian Indigenous Peoples have suffered the most post 2006 coup.

Fijian Indigenous have lost Rights to Self Determination, their Sovereignty as a First Nation Peoples of Fiji, their Fijian Race & Culture, Fijian Chiefly Institutions, Rights to make calls on their Land, Resources, 'Qoliqoli' or Foreshore and Seabed. Deaths, torture and abuse post 2006 have specifically targeted our Fijian Indigenous Peoples.

The dismantling of the BLV - 'Bose Levu Vaka Turaga' or GCC- Great Council of Chiefs had been craftily orchestrated under the infamous Khaiyum-sunset clause where a thesis had been written to supposedly spell the end of the Fijian Race in Fiji hence the removal of the name Fijian and being given to all in Fiji without even any consultation with the Fijian Indigenous who have held this description of its Fijian Race for approximately 141 years post Deed of Fiji Cession to Great Britain in 1874.

Now on this day 30 March, 2015, invoking that same Deed of Fiji Cession (1874), initially signed by our Fijian Indigenous Forefathers, we, the Fijian Indigenous Peoples of Fiji which includes those of us residing offshore, we collectively now wish to reclaim everything lost to the Fijian Indigenous Race post 2006 coup to 2015.

This petition is apolitical and is purely for the salvage of the Fijian Indigenous Peoples of Fiji who are now spread globally and residing in Fiji and also other parts of the world.

Stop Human Rights Abuse In Fiji

I am writing to strongly urge the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights to lobby for the immediate return of Fiji to the rule of law and Democracy.

Human rights have been abused, citizens are terrorised, umiliated and interrogated without counsel. Citizens have been killed, brutalised and tortured by the military. Women raped by the military has become a daily occurrence.

Fiji’s interim government continues to commit human rights abuses two-and-a-half years after a military coup, Human Rights Watch said in a letter to Pacific leaders sent on August 1, 2009. Human Rights Watch urged leaders attending the Pacific Islands Forum to agree to push Fiji’s interim government to cease these abuses immediately, when the region’s leaders meet on August 5 and 6 in Cairns, Australia.

Since December 5, 2006, the country has been controlled by an interim prime minister, Commodore Josaia Voreqe Bainimarama. This control has increased since Bainimarama announced that his cabinet will choose a new president following President Ratu Josefa Iloilo’s retirement on July 30.

Information is power. Gagging, censorship and detention of the Fiji news media by the interim regime in Fiji robs all citizens of feedback surrounding debate on national futures; and leaves the leadership itself uninformed about how to best achieve its goals of ending racist laws and corruption.
