Warning Labels on High-Sugar Foods and Drinks

Everyday families across the U.S. are unknowingly consuming excessive added sugar—hidden in foods like cereal, fruit yogurt, and granola bars. In fact, 74% of packaged foods in the U.S. contain added sugar, often under names like “evaporated cane juice” or “maltodextrin” (Ng et al., 2012). Kids are especially vulnerable—they don’t read nutrition labels, they trust us to protect them. But today, their school breakfasts and sports drinks are sabotaging their health. Studies show sugar not only contributes to obesity, diabetes, and fatty liver disease, but also to mental health struggles and ADHD-like symptoms in children (Noble et al., 2015).

What’s at stake?

If we don’t act, a generation will grow up hooked on sugar—facing early-onset chronic illness and emotional instability. The food industry knows this. In the 1960s, sugar companies paid Harvard scientists to shift the blame from sugar to fat (Kearns et al., 2016). That lie still shapes policy today. Meanwhile, neuroscientists like Dr. Magalie Lenoir have shown sugar lights up the brain just like cocaine, reinforcing addiction, dependency, and overconsumption. And yet, we have no warning labels. No honest information. Just profit-driven silence—while families pay the price.

Why is now the time to act?

We’ve regulated tobacco, alcohol, and even trans fats. We can—and must—do the same for added sugar. Countries like Mexico and the UK have already implemented taxes and labeling laws, and it’s working. In just 60 days, Damon Gameau’s body in That Sugar Film changed dramatically from a “healthy” diet loaded with hidden sugar—he gained 20 pounds, developed fatty liver, and his cholesterol flipped to dangerous levels. And yet… his calorie intake remained the same. The problem isn’t how much we eat. It’s what we’re eating.

Expanding Healthcare Access: A Petition for Medicaid Expansion in Tennessee

Objective: To expand Medicaid across Tennessee, ensuring access to medical support for low-income families and individuals.

The Issue:
Tennessee, like many states, faces a significant public health challenge. Healthcare remains a contentious issue, with Medicaid often at the center of debate. However, more needs to be done to make this essential program accessible to those who need it most.

In Tennessee, a substantial number of people cannot afford medical insurance. Roughly 300,000 residents are uninsured, leaving them vulnerable without proper coverage. Existing healthcare programs impose strict eligibility criteria, limiting access for those who need it most.

The problem is evident: too many Tennesseans lack access to essential medical support. The failure to expand Medicaid across the state leaves many residents without necessary care. Medicaid expansions in other states have shown success, and we believe Tennessee should follow suit to provide coverage for the uninsured.

Without proper medical care, lives are at risk, and public health issues persist. Many Tennessee residents are trapped in a cycle of inadequate healthcare, and it's crucial for lawmakers to act.

Say No To Water Fluoridation On The Isle Of Man

The Manx Government is considering adding artificial fluoridation chemicals to the Isle of Man public water supply, which would force every island resident to ingest these chemicals - with or without consent.

Most countries do not fluoridate their water, because modern science shows that water fluoridation can slow children’s development and lower IQ, cause Dental Fluorosis, Skeletal Fluorosis and joint pain and possibly cause cancer.

The Manx Public Health Directorate will present its report and recommendations by December 2023, which will be placed on the Tynwald register in February 2024.

If you are a Manx resident, please sign our petition to show that you do not want artificial fluoridation chemicals added to the Manx public water supply. Thank you.

#NURSESFORPEACE

The International Council of Nurses (ICN), the European Federation of Nurses Associations (EFN) and the European Forum of National Nursing and Midwifery Associations (EFNNMA), speaking on behalf of the world’s 28 million nurses, utterly condemn the illegal invasion of Ukraine and the military attacks on its people. We call for an immediate ceasefire, an end to all hostilities and for the commencement of intensified diplomatic negotiations to secure peace.

Nurses and other healthcare workers deliver care and treatment to all patients without fear or favour: they must be allowed to do their work protected from threats and violence, and the healthcare facilities they work in must be shielded from harm. International regulations and the Geneva Convention protecting health facilities and health workers must be respected and enforced.

The people of Ukraine must be provided with the humanitarian aid they are entitled to under international treaties, and they must have ready access to the vital equipment, medicines and supplies that are required to treat all of their healthcare needs, including injuries or illnesses. Refugees from the conflict must be afforded the right of free passage and provided with healthcare and support on their journeys and when they reach a place of safety.

Coronavirus Vaccines for the World

Former British Prime Minister has called the failure to distribute vaccines to poorer countries is a “stain on our global soul” . This view is supported by many including the World Health Organization (WHO) declared that countries’ “blanket booster programs” were likely to prolong the pandemic by diverting supplies to wealthier nations.

When history looks back on this time, if we continue to remain silent, this will be viewed as one of the most stark failures of those who can, refusing to help those who cannot. We need to make our voices heard. Canada has it in its power to be a leading voice. We can join together to persuade wealthy nations to join to offer assistance to vaccinate those countries with low vaccination rates.

My goal is to collect 10,000 signatures and present it to my local member of Parliament as well as to Prime Minister Trudeau. We need to make sure our government is a leader so we can " Vaccinate the World" and ensure everyone has access to good health care.

Who will get vaccinated first
Everyone who lives in Canada will have access to a safe, effective and free COVID-19 vaccine in 2021.

Vaccination has started and will be expanded to the entire population throughout 2021 as vaccine supply increases.

adults 70 years of age and older, beginning with adults 80 years of age and older, and then decreasing the age limit by 5-year increments to age 70 years as supply becomes available
health care workers who have direct contact with patients, including those who work in health care settings and personal support workers
adults in Indigenous communities

As additional COVID-19 vaccine(s) and supplies become available, the following populations should be offered vaccinations:
residents and staff of all other shared living settings, such as homeless shelters, correctional facilities, and housing for migrant workers
essential workers who face additional risks to maintain services for the functioning of society

Medical Professionals and Citizens Nationwide Believe Masks Should be Optional within School Districts

The students and staff of many school districts around our nation have been mandated to wear face masks while on school properties for many hours at a time. As a registered nurse for the state of Texas, I am 100% against this mandate due to its risk of harm to healthy individuals. We are in a time today where information is being thrown forcefully towards us and mask-mandates are given without ample scientific evidence that they work nor any knowledge whether they are harming us. Many doctors, nurses, and scientists around the world have provided evidence that wearing masks do NOT decrease the spread of viruses, has caused physical and mental harm, and may amplify the risk of spreading disease. Although our voices may be ignored by our county and state officials, each voice is extremely important to take a stand against unjust actions. I am asking each responsible and honest medical affiliate to please take a stand for the good of our children, each other, and our neighbors by signing this petition.

By the way, I used to work in surgery. I was a Circulator. If we accidentally touched our mask, we had to strip all of our gowns, rescrub our hands, re-gown, and re-glove. Sometimes, we had to even change out the entire surgery table with new covers and new sterilized instruments. How can we expect our children to NOT spread the germs (and viruses) ALL over the place when they are touching their masks all day?

Updates to The Evidence List, http://tiny.cc/EvidenceList , may take a few days to process by GoPetition. New sources added since my share date 11/16/2020, are indicated with a grey highlight:

Nursing foot care should be fully covered by Saskatchewan insurance companies.

Health promotion and prevention has been and continues to be the main focus of healthcare professionals. What I feel this means is helping people change their lifestyles to move toward a state of optimal health. Strategies used to increase a sense of well-living and to decrease episodes of illness can occur at any age and to anyone. This will help decrease the exorbitant costs patients, insurance companies and governments have to spend on the care received.

Footcare problems have a negative impingement upon many aspects of health and wellbeing, especially when they compromise the ability to devote themselves to be responsible for activities of daily living, social isolation, and mobility.

While foot problems can occur in all ages, their prevalence increases with age. Approximately 80% of the elderly suffer from fairly common issues from corns, calluses, dry feet, bunions, deformities, toenail disorders, and fungal infections. Failure to treat not only the common foot care problems listed above, but also more advanced conditions such as peripheral arterial disease, vascular disease, amputations, and neuropathies will increase the chances of other health conditions worsening, thus causing increased unnecessary strain on the health care and insurance system.

The feet play a crucial role in balance and mobility because of their complex structures. Depending on local services and policies, appropriately trained healthcare workers may carry out the assessment and treatments. Chiropodists, Podiatrists, General Practitioners, Homecare Nurses, Foot Care Nurses, Diabetes Educators, Orthopaedic Surgeons, Certified Pedorthist, Certified Orthotist, Certified Prosthetist and Rehabilitation Physician are among these trained. A comprehensive assessment on the patient’s health and current foot condition can help us, as a healthcare team, to identify any existing problems while providing recommendations for future care. If there’s a need for more specialized care, referrals by any healthcare team member are made to the appropriate healthcare professional for further treatment.

Foot Care Nurses have received vigorous training and are able to provide the most advanced techniques in foot care which are not limited to callus and corn removal, ingrown nails, nail trimming, and filing, full professional assessment of the patient’s foot condition, identification of potential foot health problems and appropriate care to prevent infection and providing education for ongoing self-care and selecting appropriate footwear.

I became a nurse in 2003 and have cared for patients in hospitals, long-term care, and home care settings. As I saw the need not only for diabetics but for all ages to take pride in caring for their feet, preventing further issues, and helping to save them money from further treatments, travel, and accommodations that could arise I took the advanced foot care nursing course. Living in a remote area and enduring an increase in expenses during this time does not allow easy access for patients to travel and see other healthcare professionals, thus they are neglecting their health. Offering my services as a first line of defense has given my patients the opportunity to put themselves as number one. Most of their concerns are able to be addressed right in their home town or a nearby community and when needed a referral to the appropriate healthcare professional is made.

Many of the above healthcare professionals have the opportunity to offer receipts that their patients submit to their insurance companies to assist them in getting the best first line of defense. It may cover all their costs or a portion but the rest can be submitted on income tax. When it comes to areas of travel, accommodations, fixed incomes, and other daily necessities I am not able to offer this to my patients simply because of my nursing title. Some insurance companies I spoke with will only offer coverage to RCMP, Veterans, and Canadian Forces. Many who have spoken to me have expressed concern that unless they have my fee covered quickly after their treatment their health will continue to be a burden and are unable to put it as number one. I ask that the insurance companies offer full coverage for all who pay into benefits, despite our nursing title because we are working together as a team, which will help all people change their lifestyles toward a state of optimal health.

Free drinking water for everyone

The importance of drinking water for human health cannot be overestimated. At the same time, however surprising it may sound, many people do not have free access to clean water or it is very limited. In most cases, to quench thirst, you have to pay for drinking water, which has become the norm in our lives. Many corporations have built businesses on the sale of ordinary drinking water. We think it is wrong. Every person should have free access to the water resources of our planet.
