שר החקלאות, עצור את המשלוחים חיים! Minister of agriculture, stop the live shipments!

(English below)

Live shipments is the accepted name of a practice whereby hundreds of thousands of animals are transported by ship and sometimes by plane every year for the purpose of fattening and slaughter.
Transportation takes place in extreme situations of overcrowding, disease, violence and sometimes even hunger.
Minister of Agriculture has the power to stop the live transports and erase this terrible stain from Israel.
For more than five years, the organization Israel against Live Shipments has been fighting live imports and has exposed thus far, terrible violence towards animals, along with serious health risks to Israel's residents in this barbarous industry.
Hundreds of complaints we have submitted over the years to the various institutions responsible for law enforcement in Israel, have received a cold shoulder. The Ministry of Agriculture for reasons that smell suspicious, continues to back up this violent and sickly industry.
No one with compassion, morality and reason should support this terrible industry!

Stop the Desecration of Torah, Return the Beis Medrash

Israeli Police seize a yeshiva and turn it into a police station

At 5:00 AM on the morning of 11 Nissan border police took control of the building of the Beit Medrash of ‘Yeshivat Od Yosef Chai.’ The yeshiva is located in Yitzhar and is under the leadership of Rav Yitzchak Ginsburgh.

The police presented the educational administrator of the yeshiva, Rabbi Elitzur, a seizure order of the building of the Beit Medrash. The order was signed by Commander Nitzan Alon, the very same commander who is responsible for signing dozens of orders banning Jews without trial from Judea and Samaria solely because of who they are.

Yeshivat Od Yosef Chai was established in 5742 (1982) at Joseph’s tomb in Shechem. In 5761 (2001) when the government evacuated Shechem and gave it to the hands of Arabs, the yeshiva moved to Yitzhar.

Since then, dozens of students have been learning in the new Beit Medrash. The yeshiva building (which was confiscated) was donated in memory of Rav Hillel Eliyahu Lieberman HY”D who was brutally by Arabs in Shechem.

The spokesman of Yitzhar responded to the seizure of the yeshiva and said, “We are witnessing hysterical and historical actions that have not occurred since the establishment of the State of Israel. The transformation of a Yeshiva into an army base clearly crosses a red line. Even the mosques where every day leaders call for the destruction of the State of Israel are not treated this way.”

“Just to remind everyone, the building of Od Yosef Chai overlooks a mosque that the Supreme Court ordered demolished many years ago. For one reason or another, the security forces have shown extreme patience with them. We call on the Israeli Government to leave the yeshiva immediately.”

Save the women of India

In India over 50 million women have been killed simply for being conceived female in the last 3 generations.

Currently no government has strongly condemned India for allowing this genocide to occur. India has laws on the books against female genocide but dose not enforce them.

India is now the #1 customer for Israeli military technology despite the fact that the Israelis are themselves the children of genocide survivors.

My belief is that the Knesset (Israel's parliament) simply does not know about the Indian holocaust and can be lobbied to stop the sales of weapons to India until India enforces its own laws on this issue.

Because India is in a low level war with both Pakistan and China an arms embargo would scare India into taking action.

Thirsting for Justice: Stop the demolition of Rain Collecting Cisterns in Area C of the West Bank

1.	From 2010 to 2011 there was an over 50% increase in cistern demolitions in Area C of the West Bank. International and local NGO’s have underlined this as concerted political strategy to target essential livelihood structures and force the displacement of Palestinians. From 2009 to 2011, nearly four hundred Palestinians were internally displaced as a direct result of the destruction of water, sanitation, and hygiene infrastructure.

2. Israel simultaneously violates its legal obligations as an occupying power under IHL, clearly stated by Article 54 of Protocol 1 of the Geneva Conventions, by not refraining from demolishing objects indispensible to the survival of the civilian population. Israel also violates its obligations as a signatory to international human rights conventions to respect, protect and fulfill the right to water of Palestinians. Additionally, both Israeli and Palestinian authorities issued a joint declaration in 2001, “for keeping water infrastructure out of the cycle of violence,” essentially but ineffectively protecting cisterns.

3.	Rain collecting cisterns are essential water sources in Area C of the West Bank - an area which faces chronic water shortages due to lack of infrastructure developments and inadequate resource distribution. The survival of hundreds of Palestinian communities is dependent on cisterns as the main source of water for livestock, crops and domestic use. Cisterns are structures that collect rain water posing neither a threat a threat to the environment, nor is their destruction required by imperative military necessity which under International Law would be the only legal justification.

4.	The policies aimed at cistern demolitions should be viewed in the larger context of occupation and the enforcement of a restrictive planning regime controlled by the Israeli military. To date, all structures are subject to a permit procedure which rarely grants Palestinians building permits. This hinders nearly all development in Area C, and puts many structures at risk of being demolished, including cisterns. Rain collecting cisterns should be excluded from the inefficient planning system and should not be subject to demolitions.

5.	Urgent action is need now - 2012 will be a critical year for at-risk communities living in Area C, with the High Court of Justice making unprecedented rulings on cases linked to planning and demolitions, greater pressure coming from settler organizations, and over 3,000 outstanding demolitions orders existing today.

Rebuild the Holy Temple in Jerusalem

The Holy Temple is the most important structures to the Jews and one of the most well-known historical buildings in the world. For true peace to be reached, Israel and Palestine need to agree on the construction of the Holy Temple. For some, it is religious. For others, it is a matter of history and culture.

A peace agreement must be reached in partner ship between Israel, Palestine, and Temple Institute for the construction of this building. It would provide as not only a center of Jewish Worship, but also as the center of Israeli history and culture for all to learn from.

Save the Od Yoseph Chai Yeshiva from Destruction

“Save Our Yeshiva” is the name of the last-ditch campaign launched by students and supporters of the Od Yosef Chai Yeshiva in Yitzhar to stop the demolition of the yeshiva building, a key Torah learning center located in Samaria, in the heartland of Israel.

The yeshiva replaced the former one located at the grave of Yosef Hatzadik in Shechem which was ransacked, smashed by pickaxes and set on fire by an Arab mob in October of 2000 after the then Prime Minister Ehud Barak ordered the army to vacate the tomb.

Under the order of the present Defense Minister, Ehud Barak, the IDF Civil Administration issued a demolition order against the 11-year-old yeshiva building. According to Israeli building practice, the Defense Minister needs to sign off on the project as a formality. Barak has refused despite amply documented early government authorization and funding for its construction. Ironically, the building commenced when Barak was Prime Minister. The building was built with private donations along with the Israeli government which invested 3-4 million shekels in the building.

Yeshiva staff, students and supporters, shocked by the May 9th demolition order, which many claim to be the result of politics within the Labor party, have mobilized to prevent the destruction of the 13,000 square foot Torah institution.
