Petition to build speed hump at Jalan Setia Damai 15F and its surrounding playground area.

As a resident of Damai 15, I have noticed an increase in the numbers of speeding drivers, some heading up the road and some coming down from the management office are at reckless speeds, which has made me very concerned for the safety of the people living here and especially the young children who cross the street every day just to go to their playground. It has been requested since 8 years ago when I moved in. But till today, it is yet to be done.

I have contacted the management office and I believe some of the concerned residents did the same. But all they came up with was a form to expect all the residents to sign in their office during working hours. I believe most people are working and do not have the time to do this. Therefore, I hope that with this e-form, perhaps it might help residents here to sign the petition to get this process started. Let’s pull this through.

We need to get at least 80% of the signatures to get MBSA to build the speed hump around the playground area along Jalan 15F. This is the least we can do for our children crossing the streets to the playground everyday.

Ban Mobiles/Gadgets in School

A School is a temple of knowledge. A place where everlasting friendships are made. A place where memories are created. A place which students call it their second home. A place we all will fondly remember for the rest of our lives.

Breaks, before and after school were the best times to catch up with friends and play whatever we liked to. However the scenario today is quite different. What we see lately is children with their heads down, staring at their phones oblivious of the world around. Students prefer to browse through social networking sites and play online games during breaks rather than interact with others.

Students have limited interaction with peers and teachers outside class. While technology has been a gift to mankind in a lot of ways, students are cursed with the side effects of the same technology.

Do we want to see our children grow up as loners and addicts? I am sure a lot of Parents and Students are aware of the ill effects of mobiles/gadgets but some might justify that carrying mobiles is for emergency. This school has a phone which can be used by students in case of an emergency. Also, there are various other communication channels already in place. So is there a real need for to carry phones?

Many schools around the world have already banned mobile phones in school for Students, the latest being France. We should be worried why we haven't thought of this as yet. We as responsible citizens of the world should take measures to protect our children from being addicted to technology at a young age and end up having a future with no real relationships and memories what so ever.

Please support me in this cause. Lets do what's best for our children and ban MOBILES & GADGETS at school.

Petition for Ministry of Education Malaysia (KPM/MOE) to maintain chess as a sport in Malaysian schools under MSSM

"Your brain is like your muscle and it regresses if you don't use it."
-	Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Prime Minister and Patron of Malaysian Chess Federation.

While the body needs physical exercise to stay fit, the brain requires mind activities as a form of exercise to continue staying fit. And what better way to stimuli the brain by having it to work and train via chess – the ultimate game for the mind. And there is no better way to start having the mind to exercise than at a very young age in order to explore its full potential to develop and grow.

With those points in mind, it came as a huge surprise by many when Majlis Sukan Sekolah-Sekolah Malaysia (MSSM) had recently discussed and almost concluded that Chess will be out from its calendar by 2020. Without any rhymes nor reasons, chess faces a near extinction as a sport for young kids in school.

Chess has many followings around the world with 194 countries affiliated to the World Chess Body (FIDE). In Malaysia alone, there are almost 11,000 chess players registered with the world body, a growth of almost 10% in just 8 months. With the game being contested at the schools and university levels, and at government and private sectors sports meet, chess is a popular sport that is cheap to maintain, good to learn and easy to set up. And beyond all that, chess continue to maintain its competitive value, as a knowledge enrichment tool and promotes interactive communication between players.

Chess made its grand appearance in Olympics as an exhibition sport at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Australia, a year after gaining recognition from the International Olympic Committee to include chess as a sport. In ASEAN, chess was contested in Indonesia in 2011 and Myanmar in 2013 and will again make its appearance at the 2019 SEA Games in the Philippines.

It is almost unthinkable that chess is on the verge of being erased as a sport in our educational system, and those that are making these decisions should review chess beyond its value as a “just a sport”. Because chess is more than just a game on a board – chess is an activity that can help to teach and educate young children the value of patience and discipline, the importance of planning and reasoning, a valuable tool to hone their analytical skills and strategic thinking, and when times get tough, it teaches humility on how to lose gracefully, to learn how to evaluate your mistakes, restart your game and maintain your focus to continuously move forward for a better ending.

Don’t let the mind go to waste – develop, compete but more importantly, play chess!

Malaysiaku Tanahairku

1. We, bearers of the vision held by the late Tunku Abdul Rahman, father of independence, believe that the contempt displayed by the present Pakatan Harapan government against the sanctity of the Constitutional Monarch and the institution of Islam in the country has threatened to engender a culture of intolerance among non-Muslims against the Muslims, much to the detriment of national security, peace and harmony.

2. We believe that the contempt displayed by the Pakatan Harapan government against the Federal Constitution of Malaysia, made manifest through the appointment of a Council of Eminent Persons comprising unelected individuals carrying out official government responsibility, has collapsed the institution of democracy and parliament in Malaysia, in that the free will of the voter to determine who represents him (or her) in parliament, and ultimately, government, has been trodden on and reduced to a farce.

3. We believe that the undemocratic and dictatorial attributes displayed by the Pakatan Harapan government, and in particular, the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dr Mahathir bin Mohamad, has triggered unrest among the Muslims, politicians, several Muslim based non-governmental organisations, the civil servants in general, as well as a number of Muslim majority nations worldwide who are concerned about the threat being posed to Islam and Muslims in Malaysia.

We believe that the hostility displayed by the Pakatan Harapan government, and in particular, the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dr Mahathir bin Mohamad, against China and India, and the indecision by the government with regards to projects mooted and subsequently executed by the past administration of Dato’ Seri Najib bin Tun Razak, has triggered anxiety among investors and caused China to pull back on imports of palm oil and several other commodities, much to the detriment of the Malaysian economy.

We believe that the Pakatan Harapan government, and in particular, the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dr Mahathir bin Mohamad, deliberately manipulated the national debt and figures associated with the debt-to-GDP ratio, to plunge the economy so as to drive investors away and afford his cronies the means to purchase shares left behind by these investors at very low prices. We believe that this has brought about a state of economic uncertainty that threatens to plunge the country into a recession of “bottomless depth.”

In light of the above, we, bearers of the vision held by the late Tunku Abdul Rahman, father of independence, call upon Malaysians of all races and of various faiths, to recognise and proclaim, in the presence and under the auspices of the Supreme Being, the following:

1. that we are entitled to a federal administration that is honest, dynamic and truly accountable, one with a truly democratic parliamentary system that represents the interests of the people, with truly independent and clean judicial institutions and a police force that is professional and executes its duties in accordance with the tenets of law.

2. that we are entitled to a mass media that is free and not beholden to those in power.

3. that we are entitled to a federal administration that values accountability and transparency as its fundamental elements, respects differences of views and supports a dynamic, resilient and just economy which is internationally competitive.

4. that the Constitution of Malaysia is supreme.

5. that the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong is and forever shall be the Constitutional monarch, and that the separation of the powers of government, and in particular, the independence of the judiciary, must forever be maintained.

6. that the fundamental liberties and freedoms guaranteed to the rakyat by the Constitution of Malaysia can never be interfered with, denied, or rendered illusory.

7. that Malaysians are born and remain free with equal rights, and that social distinctions, wherever necessary, may be founded only upon the general good.

8. that Islam is the religion of the Federation, and that all other religions may be practiced in peace and harmony.

9. that Bahasa Melayu is the national language and must be used for all official functions, and that the official status accorded to the language will never diminish the right for all Malaysians to use and learn other languages.

10. that the special position accorded by the Constitution of Malaysia to the Malays, the indigenous rakyat of West Malaysia, of Sabah and Sarawak, as well as the legitimate rights of all other races will forever be maintained.

11. that the federal administration owes it to the people of Malaysia to fulfil its responsibilities and to protect and respect the special position accorded to Sabah and Sarawak by the Constitution of Malaysia.

12. that the government must dismantle the Council of Eminent Persons and apologise to Malaysians for the gross abuse of power on its (the government’s) part for allowing members of the council to represent the country in official governmental duties.

13. that the government is duty bound to apologise to Malaysians for manipulating national debt figures and those associated with the debt-to-GDP ratio to the detriment of the people.

14. that the government is duty bound to apologise to all Malaysian Muslims for the hostile and discriminatory position taken against Tahfiz schools and various other Islamic themed institutions that exist in the country.

15. that the government is duty bound to apologise to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong for the contempt it displayed against the Monarchical Institution, made manifest through its inaction against those who questioned the sanctity of the institution.

16. that no person, for whatever reason, shall be accused, arrested, or imprisoned except in the cases and according to the forms prescribed by law.

17. that any citizen summoned or arrested in virtue of the law shall submit without delay, as resistance constitutes an offense.

18. that the law shall provide for such punishments only as are strictly and obviously necessary, and that no one shall suffer punishment except it be legally inflicted in virtue of a law passed and promulgated before the commission of the offense.

19. that all persons are innocent until they shall have been declared guilty, and that if arrest shall be deemed indispensable, all harshness not essential to the securing of the prisoner’s person shall be severely repressed by law.

20. that no one shall be disquieted on account of his (or her) opinions, including his (or her) religious views, provided their manifestation does not disturb the public order established by law.

21. that the free communication of ideas and opinions is one of the most precious of the rights of man, and that every citizen may, accordingly, speak, write, and print with freedom, but shall be responsible for such abuses of this freedom as shall be defined by law.

22. that the security of the rights of man and of the citizen requires public police and military forces, and that these forces are, therefore, established for the good of all and not for the personal advantage of those to whom they shall be intrusted.

23. that all citizens have a right to decide, either personally or by their representatives, as to the necessity of the public contribution, to grant this freely, to know to what uses it is put, and to fix the proportion, the mode of assessment and of collection and the duration of the taxes,

Straw free Kuala Lumpur

Plastic straws are really bad for the ocean and most of those end up in our oceans, polluting the water and killing marine life. We want to encourage people to stop using plastic straws for good. If we don’t act now, by the year 2050 there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish.

AREN’T PLASTIC STRAWS RECYCLABLE?
Most plastic straws are too lightweight to make it through the mechanical recycling sorter. They drop through sorting screens and mix with other materials and are too small to separate, contaminating recycling loads or getting disposed as garbage.

HOW DO PLASTIC STRAWS GET INTO THE OCEAN?
Plastic straws end up in the ocean primarily through human error, often 1) left on beaches in coastal communities and seaside resorts globally 2) littered OR 3) blown out of trash cans (oftentimes overfilled) or transport boats and vehicles.

Remember, all gutters and storm drains lead to our ocean!

WHAT HAPPENS ONCE THEY’RE IN THE WATER?
An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When they ingest plastic, marine life has a 50% mortality rate. What would our oceans be without marine life?

(source: Communication with Chris Wilcox, CSIRO, primary and contributing author to both studies cited)

What’s equally as bad, perhaps even worse is that when plastic does make it into the ocean it breaks down into smaller and smaller pieces known as “microplastics” rather than biodegrading or dissolving, which poses great threats to marine life including fish.

WHAT IF PEOPLE NEED TO USE A STRAW, ARE THERE ALTERNATIVES?
Yes, some people need a straw! Anyone who has had a stroke, has autism, MS or other life changing physical issue needs a straw and often a compostable plastic straw works best and make them available for people with special needs.

In some cases, the use of standard or compostable plastic straws are best to fulfill our shared need to drink liquids!

WHAT ABOUT COMPOSTABLE PLASTIC STRAWS?
While compostable plastic straws are good in theory, they can be disposed of incorrectly by individuals when there is a lack of information on public composting depositories.

Compostable plastic straws are no better than regular plastic straws when they get into the marine environment. They are designed to break down in compost facility conditions, not sea water. That is why we support the switch to paper straws, not compostable plastic straws.

WHY FOCUS ON PLASTIC STRAWS?
We already know that plastic bags and soda can rings are bad for the environment and end up in the ocean. Few people realize that straws are among the top 10 items found during beach clean ups and can do so much harm to seabirds, turtles and other marine creatures.

As an item of convenience for the vast majority of us, we believe refusing the single-use plastic straw is the easiest and simplest way for everyone to take action today to address plastic pollution. If we all take the pledge to refuse single-use plastic straws we will see a significant decrease in the number of straws found during coastal cleanups.

HOW CAN I GET INVOLVED?
Accept and challenge someone else to #StopSucking as part of the viral social media challenge! Take it one step further and get your favorite bar, restaurant, or coffee shop to #StopSucking to participate.

At the very least say “No PLASTIC straw, please!” Get in the habit of asking for no straw before you even order a beverage. And be ready to tell your server why.

WHERE CAN I FIND ALTERNATIVES?

Petition to Ban The Use of Single Use Plastic Straws In Selangor

Please sign the petition is at the bottom of the page.

In 2015,a study published in Science Magazine declared Malaysia as the eighth worst country worldwide for plastic waste.
If that statement is not eye-opening enough, an article from The Star newspaper , written by Victoria Brown on the 20th of August 2017, stated that based on a conservative estimate ,a whooping 31 million plastic straws are used by Malaysians EVERY DAY. These statistics are increasing at an alarming rate and yet we have continued to turn a blind eye to this issue. Dr Amar Singh HSS wrote an article to encourage Malaysians to give up the use of plastic straws out of concern for the environment. He stated 5 important facts on plastic and plastic straws. The first fact was that at least 80%-90% of all marine debris is made from plastic. Plastic straws are too small to be easily recycled, so they are disposed as trash and often end up in the ocean. These plastic straws are detrimental to animals, especially marine life, as these sea creatures tend to ingest these plastics or become entrapped by them. Some studies have clearly shown that one third of all fish that we eat has ingested plastic.
Plastic straws are not biodegradable. A single plastic straw takes 400-500 years to break down into small pieces called microplastics. The Economist posted up an article entitled ' The Known Unknowns of Plastic Pollution' on March 3rd 2018 t stating that plastics once exposed to salt water and ultraviolet light, can fragment into “microplastics” small enough to find their way into fish bellies. From there, it seems only a short journey to our dinner plates.

If not taken seriously, our generation and the ones after us will suffer its consequences. Action starts with you . You have the power to change and save our dying environment. If not now, then when? Are you going to just sit back and allow our home to be continuously destroyed by our selfish deeds?
Regardless of religion, we have been taught that the earth is a gift of God and it is our responsibility to protect and care for it.
Think and act wisely, my fellow Malaysians.
Change is now.

Ensure Singapore/Johor Bahru checkpoint counter is fully open during peak hours

Hi Everyone,
In order to support the family better, a lot of Malaysians like us have to travel daily and work in Singapore. We are not only contribute to the development of Singapore but also earning foreign currency for Malaysia.
However, our hard work is not really appreciated. Many of us have to face terrible traffic jams at checkpoints, spend hours in the bus, cars, and in queues to get to immigrations clearance.
The relevant authorities have not done enough to help the daily traveller. The checkpoint counters are not fully open during peak hours. Many counters are not in operation. This prolong the time to clear the immigration and a lot of precious time have been wasted.
We require the checkpoint counter to be fully open during peak hours immediately. While waiting the time-consuming strategy to come in place such as the subway and high speed train.
