Join With the AKC to Protect Responsible Small Breeders

Join with the American Kennel Club to express your concerns about the harsh and unintended consequences that the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s proposed regulations (RIN 0579-AD57) to redefine “retail pet store” would have on responsible small and hobby breeders.

Under the proposed regulations, breeders - who maintain more than four “breeding females” and who sell even one puppy sight unseen, by any means (including online, by mail or by telephone), would now be regulated as commercial breeders by the USDA. The effect of these proposed regulations would be to take away the public’s opportunity to obtain puppies from some of our nation’s top breeders who in many cases, have dedicated their lives to breeding for health, breed type and temperament.

Under current law, the federal Animal Welfare Act exempts from federal oversight “retail pet stores,” which sell puppies directly to a final customer for use as pets. This exemption means that most non-commercial small or hobby breeders do not have to be licensed and regulated by the USDA. The proposed rule rescinds the exempt “retail pet store” status of anyone selling pets at retail to buyers who do not physically enter the breeder’s facilities in order to personally observe the animals available for sale.

The rule also requires anyone who owns more than four “breeding females” and sells puppies, cats or other small/exotic pets “sight unseen,” by any means, to be licensed, regulated and inspected as a USDA commercial breeder.

The AKC shares the USDA’s concern about substandard Internet puppy sellers that operate outside the current regulations. However, the unintended consequences of this proposed rule create unreasonable hardships on small hobby breeders. This rule could threaten the future of a vast number of small responsible dog breeders and the very existence of some rare breeds in the United States.

The rule creates an unfair burden on small breeders who may depend on the ability to place dogs very selectively in known situations without physically meeting with the purchaser at the specific time of sale. Likewise, many hobbyists are comfortable purchasing an animal sight-unseen based on known pedigrees, bloodlines, previous relationships or personal knowledge of each other’s facilities and programs. Such scenarios are particularly common and necessary for breeders and fanciers of rare breeds. The proposed rule does not make allowances if the purchaser is willing to sign a waiver of an in-person sale requirement.

It is unreasonable to expect small breeders, who may keep a handful of intact females in their homes, to be able to meet exacting USDA commercial kennel engineering standards that were never intended for home environments. Other pre-existing restrictions such as local ordinances, insurance or licensing may also prevent hobbyists from adapting their facilities.

Repeal the Breed Ban in Denmark

Over 400.000 dogs are now in danger in Denmark. The Danish Government has passed a breed ban law, 13 breeds are now forbidden in Denmark, and also any mix of these breeds.

The Government has introduced reverse burden of proof, so the owners of Dogs that look like these breeds, now have to proof that they are not, which as we all know, can not be done with DNA. If you can't lift the burden of proof - the dog will be euthanized

On the 2nd of march 2017 a mother of 2 has attempted to drown her children in the Murray river at moama. In this selfish mothers attempt to drown her 2 boys buddy the dog has reacted and attempted to save the boys in doing so he has bit the eldest boy in his rescue attempts unfortunately he was unable to save the youngest boy and has also bit the mother. Buddy is his name and he is a pitbull cross and has since been seized from his owners who are distraught by not only what this mother has done but also that our dog has been seized when he should be labelled a hero instead. Buddy doesn't have a history of being a dangerous dog and most certainly hasn't ever bitten anyone and has never been seized before for anything. Buddy is a member of our family and has grown up around children his whole life and has been the most gentelest dog, he has clearly seen a child in distress and attempted to help, dogs don't have hands to help like us humans they have to use their teeth and in doing so it's being petrayed as this dog has attacked the young boy.

Save the Goats of Khokana

The Khokana Festival in Nepal is held annually in August. During the festival a young female goat is thrown into a pond where a group of young men attack, bite and tear the goat apart while it is still alive. The man who is judged to have eventually killed the goat is named a "hero" and leads a dance procession which follows.

The local Village Development Committee sponsors this annual festival. Such a cruel and vicious act inflicted on an animal has no place in a civilized society and should be banned immediately.

Ban BEAR FARMS IN KOREA - Save Bears!

This petition has been updated and republished as of January 1, 2016.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Have you seen a yellow poster 'NOT FOR SALE'?
Its bar code says "329 1600 120KG 19GRAM".
19 GRAM' is weight of a dried bear gall bladder....
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

There are more than 1000 bears in captivity (most of them are Asian Moon Bears- Moon Bears, with distinctive 'V' mark on their chest) in over 60 bear farms in Korea.

The Korean government is responsible for this as they started importing bears from North America and Japan for breeding and export in early 1980's.

Visits to 10 bear farms by moonbears.org, confirmed hygiene standards and the conditions of bears were both extremely poor.

The bears were in small dog cages, fed with pig's food for cost cutting measure by bear farmers. All bears showed signs of abnormal behavior.

There are no regulations providing for any specific methods of slaughter, and there is a widespread belief that the bears are killed inhumanely.

Just imagine many bears waiting to be slaughtered for their gall bladder, feet and meat, crowded into small and filthy cages on daily basis.

Please sign this petition to stop this horrible crime. We are aiming for 30,000 signatures to be the voice of all the farmed bears in the world.

Support Tougher Sentences for Animal Cruelty

A group of Brisbane lawyers have formed an organisation to campaign for animal justice. Calling themselves BLEATS (Brisbane Lawyers Educating and Advocating for Tougher Sentences) their major aim is to focus attention on the apparent unwillingness or seeming inability of Magistrates to wield their powers under the Animal Care and Protection Act 2001.

Solicitor Tracy-Lynne Geysen was horrified by the spate of animal cruelty cases reported in the local media and decided to look into what the law was actually doing to deter the ongoing abuse.

“I was watching the news one day recently and a report came on about a dog that was found hanging from a tree. The announcer said the people who found the dog were shocked but no offender had been located,” she said. “Then there was the attempted skinning of a live cat and the rescue of close to one hundred animals from a house in Central Queensland. I wanted to see if justice was being served and I found out it manifestly was not!”

She found she was not alone. A number of equally disgusted lawyers and colleagues came together to form BLEATS and their supporters are growing daily.

“The Animal Care and Protection Act was strengthened in 2002 to provide for maximum penalties of $75 000 or 2 years imprisonment for the most serious of crimes against animals,” she continued. “But judgments such as a $400 fine for killing a dog with an axe or a suspended sentence of 3 months for beating and kicking a dog before hurling it into oncoming traffic makes one wonder how “bad” an offence has to be before more Magistrates enforce their powers.”

After researching this situation it became clear to BLEATS that much of the problem lay in precedent law – that is the Magistrates must look at previous sentences as a guide when sentencing offenders. As the prior sentences handed down were low, a vicious cycle developed.

BLEATS members have realised that to break this cycle they must make fellow lawyers aware of the situation and hopefully encourage them to volunteer as “forceful” advocates representing the RSPCA at these trials. They also want to ensure that low sentences are taken on appeal. Higher sentences at the appellate level would provide Magistrates with precedents for higher (and more appropriate) sentences. This secondary element targets more funding and sponsorship of the RSPCA to ensure appeals can be brought.

BLEATS has set up a website www.bleats.com.au targeting the legal community. Apart from providing more information on the topic, the website calls for anyone interested to contact the RSPCA in relation to providing assistance for the cause.

BLEATS is also spreading awareness by targeting legal publications and the legal industry in general.

End to Fur Farming of Animals Skinned Alive

Since 1997, The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) has investigated and documented the international trade in dog and cat fur and skins. This undercover investigation has spanned the globe from source countries in China, the Philippines, & Thailand to retailers and wholesalers in the United States, Russia, and the European Union.

Over two million dogs and cats are slaughtered each year for their furs and skins, mostly in China and other Asian countries. Investigators documented 50,000 to 100,000 cat pelts stockpiled at animal byproduct factories in China. At least ten dogs are slaughtered to make a single coat, more if puppies are used. Up to 24 cats are slaughtered to make one fur coat. Dog and cat fur is used in trims, linings, hats, decorative figurines, and folk remedies. Skins are used in dog chew toys and shoe leather.

The slaughter of these animals is violent and pitiless.Cats are strangled inside their cages as other cats look on. Dogs are noosed about the neck by metal wires, and then slashed across the groin. The wire noose cuts into their throats as they struggle in pain before finally losing consciousness. In Harbin China, HSUS investigators documented a German shepherd still blinking and conscious as he was being skinned. At a dog farm several hours north of Harbin, investigators documented dead dogs hanging from hooks as others, still alive, awaited their fate outside the same cold, dismal room.

An investigator from Swiss Animals Protection/East International said:"Conditions on Chinese fur farms make a mockery of the most elementary animal welfare standards...In their lives and their unspeakable deaths, these animals have been denied even the simplest acts of kindness."

Investigate New York City Animal Shelters In Violation of Humane Laws and the Public Trust

New York City Animal Care & Control shelters, operated and funded by the public and controlled under the auspices of the NYC Department of Health since 1995 and managed by Animal Care & Control Administration have been operating in defiance of every conceivable recognized humane welfare ethic and public law for far too long.

The breadth and scope of these animal welfare violations and violations of law literally boggle the mind and defy all rationality. The public trust is being violated regularly behind a veil of secrecy.

Animals brought into NYC shelters are subjected to an ever-present epidemic of kennel cough which is used as an excuse to murder dogs as young as 7 months old. Dogs brought into NYC shelters healthy are sick within 4-6 days of incarceration and killed often one day after beginning treatment for kennel cough. Cats are mishandled, abused and left to suffer and die from injuries and/or killed. Mother cats are aborted of kittens and then killed, leaving day-old babies to die of starvation in their cages.

Time constraints to find these animals homes can be as limited as one day, 5 days or can last for months, depending upon veiled decisions made by AC&C Administration, without rhyme, reason or explanation, but in most cases death is the result.

Conditions in NYC shelters can best be described as chaotic, unsanitary and overcrowded on a regular basis. Yet NY City Council, the DOH and the AC&C have reneged on building two new shelters in two unrepresented boroughs in the Bronx and Queens promised and funded in 2011. AC&C Administration denies that it is killing for space, but when 330 dogs and 102 cats are murdered within 41 days, clearly, this belies AC&C claims. On average, NYC shelters kill 2,400-3,000 dogs and as many if not more cats every year which would be a lot more if not for the fact that NYC rescues and adopters save thousands. These animals are generally younger than 3 years old and highly adoptable, until AC&C finds an excuse to murder them.

Shelter workers and volunteers are bound by gag orders that violate First Amendment rights and it is apparent that they would not be asked to sign such gag orders if there were not things going on in NYC shelters the DOH and AC&C Administration does not want the public to know.

The concept of the word "euthanasia" - defined as "the merciful killing of sick or injured animals beyond redemption" - is regularly defiled when dogs as young as 7 months old and kittens days' old are murdered, not because they're irredeemable or as a mercy, but for expedience.

To add insult to injury, prejudice is being used to eradicate a dog breed - Pit Bulls - that die in record numbers every day and which are condemned to death in shelters through a prejudicial public housing ban on dogs over 25 lbs. which conveniently targets Pit Bulls. As there is no Breed Specific Legislation in NYC, this is outright prejudice and persecution and yet another violation of not just animal welfare laws but public law.

NYC, with the culpability of the Bloomberg, Administration, the Department of Health, AC&C Administration and NY City Council have been operating horrific animal shelters best described as slaughterhouses with full knowledge of an epidemic of disease and utilizing premeditated murder as a means to control a homeless animal population, aiding and abetting each other, they conceal the realities of shelter operations and violate shelter guidelines and humane laws regularly.

We demand that the current Executive Director of the AC&C, Risa Weinstock, be terminated immediately for lying to the public on the record at a public forum, for telling a concerned NYC citizen that animals are killed "Because they get sick. They get very sick," when she is (or should be) well aware that animals are being made sick in NYC shelters on her watch.

We demand the removal of the NYC Department of Health as overseer of shelter operations and financial manager of NYC shelter budgets for its failure to control an ongoing epidemic for years.

Furthermore, after operating for 3 years without a Chief Veterinarian, on January 11, 2014, the AC&C announced the appointment of Dr. Lisa Hara Levin for that position. Dr. Levin's resume includes extensive experience working with research laboratories and vivisectionists, but not in shelter veterinary medicine. We find this to be a very curious choice for the position of Chief Operating Vet for NYC shelters. We would like to know why this choice was made without consulting the public that finances NYC shelters and if it was made with the consent of Mayor Bill de Blasio.

Finally, the people of New York City that fund and rely on these shelters want the veil pulled back on NYC shelter operations. We request a long overdue investigation into shelter operations and conditions and we want to know what becomes of the remains of the murdered animals.

We demand a restructuring of NYC shelters as true no-kill shelters immediately, the removal of the Department of Health as overseer of the shelters and the removal of the current Animal Care & Control Executive Director, Risa Weinstock and her assistant, Richard Gentiles, the people who make arbitrary life-and-death decisions with willful disregard for public opinion. NYC taxpayers are being deceived by shelter management and our intelligence is being disparaged by outright lies.

As taxpaying citizens and as a society we owe no less to the innocent victims of NYC shelters and as decent people of conscience we seek to have NYC shelters become no-kill now, not after one million animals are senselessly murdered.

Attached is the links to a recent "kill list" and the "Gone" or "Destroyed" folders for a 28-day period showing 153 dogs killed in a 28-day period. Ninety-eight percent of these dogs were murdered for kennel cough and this is apparent on their blogs.

http://goo.gl/otJWsw (Death List for dogs-05/03/13)

http://goo.gl/YF1UuH

Cats are given no better fate as these folders will clearly reveal:

[Other supporting, corroborating and relevant links will be transmitted with this petition via email.]

IT'S TIME TO PUT A STOP TO THE CONSPIRACY OF MURDER IN NEW YORK CITY. AS A SOCIETY THIS IS OUR DUTY. FOR THE ANIMALS IT IS LIFE OR DEATH.

WE DEMAND AN INVESTIGATION!

Save Orangutans – demand that only sustainable palm oil is used by Supermarkets/Manufacturers!

Boycott Palm oil until we have answers!

I have been writing to Manufacturers and Supermarkets in the UK in the past 3 months who are known to use palm oil in their products and are in the top 100 for UK sales, and the news is not very positive and most of them have omitted to answer the questions I posed, particularly in providing me with a list of their products containing palm oil and whether it is sustainable or unsustainable palm oil that they use. Unsustainable palm oil plantations are the biggest threat and killer of the Orangutans in Borneo and Sumatra – these plantation Companies burn and tear down the Rainforests (the Orangutans habitat), kill and torture them. There is a supply of sustainable palm oil out there and it is not being used, so there is no excuse!

I now refuse to use ANY of their products, where possible and instead use products from Companies that do not use palm oil at all until there is proof of sustainable palm oil use. I do not want to be consuming this unhealthy saturated fat.

RSPO – is it just a cover?
The RSPO (Round table for Sustainable Palm oil) was set up in part by one of the biggest users of unsustainable palm oil in the World, in order to manage the promotion and changeover to sustainable palm oil for Companies. It appears to be doing good work, but I do feel that some of the members could be hiding behind their membership and saying that they are ‘doing their bit’ when they are actually, as a Company, doing very little. This does not mean everyone, but some of them, so do not take their membership as being the be all and end all – it is not and we need more proof.

It’s all about time
Time is actually running out for the Orangutan’s and many other animals, such as the Sumatran Tiger. If deforestation for the planting of unsustainable palm oil plantations is not stopped, then the Orangutan will be extinct within around 10 years!

Most Manufacturer’s, Supermarkets, and the RSPO itself do not have strict time scales that they commit to, to make the required changes (change to sustainable palm oil). This is no good – we want some promises and action before the Orangutan is extinct! We need them to tell us WHEN they are going to do something.

It is essentially all about greed……..
1. Our consumer greed for tasty and cheap products. (do we really need to eat biscuits and long life bread anyway?)

2. The Manufacturer’s greed for selling in bulk, their budget products, using palm oil as a cheap bulking agent.

3. The Palm oil Companies greed for selling quickly grown, cheaply produced and lucrative oil.

Listing Palm oil as ‘Vegetable oil’.

The law regarding ingredients listings, is an EU law, and allows manufacturers to list palm oil within the general term ‘vegetable oil’ making it difficult for us to avoid palm oil – please see my other petition for information on this very important subject and sign my other petition here: http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/save-the-orangutan-demand-labelling-of-palm-oil.html
