Minister of agriculture, stop the live shipments!

(English below)

Live shipments is the accepted name of a practice whereby hundreds of thousands of animals are transported by ship and sometimes by plane every year for the purpose of fattening and slaughter.
Transportation takes place in extreme situations of overcrowding, disease, violence and sometimes even hunger.
Minister of Agriculture has the power to stop the live transports and erase this terrible stain from Israel.
For more than five years, the organization Israel against Live Shipments has been fighting live imports and has exposed thus far, terrible violence towards animals, along with serious health risks to Israel's residents in this barbarous industry.
Hundreds of complaints we have submitted over the years to the various institutions responsible for law enforcement in Israel, have received a cold shoulder. The Ministry of Agriculture for reasons that smell suspicious, continues to back up this violent and sickly industry.
No one with compassion, morality and reason should support this terrible industry!

The 1967 occupation of Palestine by Israel continues to deprive the Palestinians of their fundamental human rights, and the construction of Jewish settlements throughout the West Bank seriously curtails Palestinian viability.

The more than 100 recently constructed illegal outposts on Palestinian property, the widespread demolition of Palestinian homes, and the pervasive abuse of Palestinian citizens - all these must be stopped in order to make way for a durable and honest Peace.

Thirsting for Justice: Stop the demolition of Rain Collecting Cisterns in Area C of the West Bank

1.	From 2010 to 2011 there was an over 50% increase in cistern demolitions in Area C of the West Bank. International and local NGO’s have underlined this as concerted political strategy to target essential livelihood structures and force the displacement of Palestinians. From 2009 to 2011, nearly four hundred Palestinians were internally displaced as a direct result of the destruction of water, sanitation, and hygiene infrastructure.

2. Israel simultaneously violates its legal obligations as an occupying power under IHL, clearly stated by Article 54 of Protocol 1 of the Geneva Conventions, by not refraining from demolishing objects indispensible to the survival of the civilian population. Israel also violates its obligations as a signatory to international human rights conventions to respect, protect and fulfill the right to water of Palestinians. Additionally, both Israeli and Palestinian authorities issued a joint declaration in 2001, “for keeping water infrastructure out of the cycle of violence,” essentially but ineffectively protecting cisterns.

3.	Rain collecting cisterns are essential water sources in Area C of the West Bank - an area which faces chronic water shortages due to lack of infrastructure developments and inadequate resource distribution. The survival of hundreds of Palestinian communities is dependent on cisterns as the main source of water for livestock, crops and domestic use. Cisterns are structures that collect rain water posing neither a threat a threat to the environment, nor is their destruction required by imperative military necessity which under International Law would be the only legal justification.

4.	The policies aimed at cistern demolitions should be viewed in the larger context of occupation and the enforcement of a restrictive planning regime controlled by the Israeli military. To date, all structures are subject to a permit procedure which rarely grants Palestinians building permits. This hinders nearly all development in Area C, and puts many structures at risk of being demolished, including cisterns. Rain collecting cisterns should be excluded from the inefficient planning system and should not be subject to demolitions.

5.	Urgent action is need now - 2012 will be a critical year for at-risk communities living in Area C, with the High Court of Justice making unprecedented rulings on cases linked to planning and demolitions, greater pressure coming from settler organizations, and over 3,000 outstanding demolitions orders existing today.

Meat Free Monday in Israel

The connection between meat consumption or animal agriculture & environmental pollution is scientifically proven time and time again. What we eat impacts our health and the health of the environment.

Did you know? Or have you heard about the an alarming report of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization released on June 5th 2009, to the Minister of Environmental Defense, states that livestock agriculture is responsible and contributes to a meaningful part of environmental pollution in the world. Animal Agriculture’s 'contribution' to global warming is bigger than all the vehicles on Earth all together.

Vegetarian Monday is an initiative of a gastronomic magazine " Al Hashulchan", which in it's basis stands the recognition of the environment harms caroused as a conclusion of the growing consumption of animals products food. According to Janna Gour, the editor of " Al Hashulchan", the local initiative is part of a worldly contest, the Belgium town Ghent declared a month ago on Meatless Monday.- a similar project runs in the USA, which in its' framework the American public is asked to prevent eating meat on Mondays.

Lets join Sir Paul McCartney and concerned citizens from around the world. Let’s put Israel as a leader in bal tashet and tzar bali hamin and we can do both with a vegan diet. A PURE vegetarian diet is one with out any animal product no eggs to fish its vegan. And this is the best diet to halt climate change, improve your health and recognize the sacred nature of our animal co-inhabitants.

Support an Increase in the Minimum Wage in Israel

The Ministerial Committee on Legislation voted to support a bill, which over 15 months would gradually raise the monthly minimum wage from NIS 3,850 to NIS 4,600.

25% of all wage earners in Israel (including 43% of hospitality and food service workers ), have salaries that fall between the current and the proposed higher minimum wage.

The Finance Minister Yuval Steinitz has came out against the proposed law raising the minimum wage. Steinitz, in appealing the decision to cabinet secretary said that implementing the law would make the cost of labor substantially more expensive.

Similarly the Bank of Israel Governor Stanley Fischer has come out in opposition saying it will make Israel less competitive by hurting manufacturers, primarily those dependent on low-paid labor and those trying to compete internationally.

The current minimum wage in Israel is not realistic and does not properly take in to account the actual cost of rent, food, transportation, energy costs and other bills.

Stop Partitioning Jerusalem Now!

The leaders of the right-of-center Israeli government coalition partners, Shas and Israel Beiteinu, warned visiting U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice on Monday, 15 Oct 2007, that they will quit the government and help bring about its downfall if the division of Jerusalem is offered by Prime Minister Ehud Olmert at an upcoming peace summit in Annapolis, Maryland.

A day earlier, Rice insisted that the time had come for a Palestinian state on Israel's ancient heartland, with the eastern half of Jerusalem as its capital.

Palestinian sources said the American leaders promised to put heavy pressure on Israel to fully meet their demands over the Holy City. But Israel Beiteinu, Chief, and Avigdor Lieberman, Strategic Affairs Minister, told Rice that their party views the division of Jerusalem as a red line and, if Olmert offers it in Annapolis, the party will leave the coalition and bring down the Israeli Government, reported The Jerusalem Post.

Also on the offering block is the Temple Mount, which Olmert would give completely to Palestinian Authority control.
