Justice for the lebanese people / العدالة للشعب اللبناني

In Lebanon, children die at the door of hospitals, because parents do not have enough money to pay for their children’s hospitalization.
In Lebanon, some children grow up and have not yet entered school.
In Lebanon, waste has spread to the streets because there is no environmentally friendly plan to get rid of the issue of waste and pollution.
In Lebanon, there is no social assistance system that is required to provide nutrition, housing, clothing and necessary medical care for those below the poverty line.
In Lebanon, the judiciary is political and unfair, judges in Lebanon are rightly right if the accused is weak and powerless, and are silent about those who stole the Lebanese treasury, which has led to poverty and starvation of the Lebanese people.

Therefore as The Lebanese-Swiss Association for human right protection, we are honoured to send the cry of the Lebanese people to the world for their help by demanding a lawsuit to the International Criminal Court in The Hague,to hold human and financial crimes that have been and continue to be practiced against the Lebanese people.

Higher education in Lebanon is in a dire condition, highlighted by the drastic unjustified tuition increases at private universities, while the Lebanese University - Lebanon’s only public institution for subsidized higher education - suffers from lack of funding and resources. These issues are directly linked to the absence of a participatory policy that includes students in decision-making, as well as the suppression of students’ right to syndical work, which result in students’ inability to raise concerns and influence decisions at their universities.

Mada - the youth-led political network - has launched this petition to call on the Ministry of Education and Higher Education to support our demand for a student contract that obligates all Lebanese universities to safeguard the basic rights of university students from the very beginning of their academic careers.

Prevent municipalities in Lebanon from shooting stray dogs

After the heartless shooting of a stray dog in the region of Jdeideh, that had recently given birth to a number of puppies (left afterwards freezing in the streets), by a police man of the Jdeideh Bauchrieh Sed municipality, we ask the municipalities and the relative authorities to take action against this kind of procedures in Lebanon.

The systematic killing of stray dogs is a barbaric and middle-aged act that doesn't represent or reflect the opinions and views of the people. This is unacceptable, especially given the recent decision made by the North Lebanon Governor, Juge Ramzi Nohra, after his meeting with BETA, following a similar case in Tripoli, to forbid the shooting of stray dogs for all the municipalities affiliated to the North Governarate.

M1 Students Call for a Master's Degree in Tripoli

We the M1 students have waited for years to have a master's degree here in Tripoli. Some of us graduated nine and ten years ago. Some are mothers, fathers and grandparents. We worked hard to make time to work on our studies despite our commitment to our jobs, which we would never leave in such an economical situation.

Our researches took plenty of time and effort to be accomplished even though many complained about the lack of resources in our university, yet we worked like bees and collected information from everywhere.

Some of us come from long distances, and some have left their jobs in the gulf and got ready for the degree they have always dreamed of. Others challenged the fiery situations in the country and attended with pleasure. Though we had already known that attendance would not count, we rushed to the benches of our university, thirsty for knowledge and eager to grasp information. Do not kill our spirit. Do not attack our love for life, achievement and success.

Believe in our powers and just give us the chance. We should be able to defend our right in getting our master's degree here in our city, for in this global world, we can never understand why Tripoli cannot get what Beirut has gotten. Is it fair for a city as rich as Tripoli to have its people marginalized and treated as inferiors?

Save the EGG

The Beirut City Center, by Joseph Phillipe Karam, a prominent modernist Lebanese architect of the 60s, is an egg shaped theater / cinema in downtown Beirut.

Its design is a symbol of modern design foresight and a testament to Lebanese talent and architecture.

Now, with the Beirut downtown area renovation and reconstruction, this milestone of Lebanese design is on death-row, making space for the new 600 million dollar Beirut Gate project.

Stop the Ban on Skype, MagicJack, and other VoIP technologies

https://mail.google.com/mail/?ui=2&ik=0ba2c2d62a&view=att&th=1295c345bf5b8d14&attid=0.2&disp=inline&realattid=f_gaprdigq1&zw

From NOW Lebanon’s article, “Lebanon’s VoIP ban: enforcing the unenforceable”:

In an effort it says is specifically aimed at stopping illegal operations, the Ministry of Telecommunications is enforcing parts of a 2002 law that banned Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) technology, like Skype and magicJack, angering many at-home users of these services in the process.

Illegal call centers cater mostly to Lebanon’s low-paid foreign workforce, and, according to a June 9 ministry press release, they cost the state $150 million each year in lost revenues. With a monopoly on the country’s telecom infrastructure, the state sets high call rates, making millions off the sector every year.

Lebanon is sticking with its decision against allowing the technology, even as more countries in North Africa, the Middle East and South Asia lift their bans, said Riad Bahsoun, CEO of a local IT company and the vice chairman of the board of directors of the IT industry group SAMENA Telecommunications Council.
