Change The London 2012 Logo (extended campaign)

Due to overwhelming public support and demand, GoPetition.com has opened a fresh petition campaign to "Change The London 2012 Logo" that includes the signature count from the original London Logo campaign at GoPetition.com.

The signature count of this extended campaign represents the original count of 48,614 signatures from the original London Logo petition plus additional signatures by concerned citizens. The total combined signatures will be presented to the London Olympic Committee.

Note: This petition should not be confused with the original and extremely successful campaign that was closed on 6 June 2007 and can be accessed at http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/change-the-london-2012-logo.html

-----------------------------------------------
Extended Campaign:

On the 4th of June 2007 the London Olympic Committee in the UK released the logo that will represent London in the 2012 Olympics.

The logo has proven controversial and this petition outlines the view that the logo is overpriced and looks awful.

Several other petitions have been created, totaling over 45,000 signatures. This petition seeks to consolidate the support offered by a cross-section of petitions found on the GoPetition.com website.

We are therefore appealing to the public who have strong feelings about this issue, or have been frustrated by the closed campaign, to voice their concern on this petition.

Your Help is needed to "Save The Nürburgring"

From 2007 - 2009 the German government built a huge Leisure Park at the Nürburgring. It is based on fake visitor numbers, over sized and badly executed. Most of the time it is an empty ghost town. Once promised as private investment, it is now based on a debt of 350+ million EUR public money.

Instead of pulling the plug they rented the park, including both race tracks to exactly the same privateers who were driving forces behind the Leisure Park's initial private setup.

Without Racing experience they are since experimenting with events completely unrelated to Motor-sport all under the iconic "Nürburgring" brand name.

They now want Nordschleife to pay for the huge losses. Tourist drives are at a record high, plus a 5 times increase in rent for the automotive industry for their prototype testing sessions.

What Needs To Be Done?

Separate Nordschleife from ring°park.
Let Nürburgring be Motor-sport.
Value the great heritage and tradition, rather than Roller Coasters.
Let the Ring be run by Motor-sport experts.

Please show your support and sign the petition.

Support naming THE Winnipeg NHL franchise the Winnipeg Jets!

With the NHL returning to Winnipeg for the 2011-2012 season, the topic of the team's name has become a hot topic for discussion. Some have said that a "fresh start" with a new team name is favoured by True North Sports and Entertainment (TNSE).

While we cannot understate our gratitude to TNSE for making this even possible and respect that they may wish to go in a different direction, we believe a new name for the team would be a mistake.

Some of us were lucky enough to have been around to actually see Bobby Hull (the Golden Jet) play live in the Winnipeg Arena while others were only able to see pictures of him or watch video of him play here. There are those of us who were around to witness the Jets parade the Avco Cup around the ice at the old barn. We remember the NHL rejecting Winnipeg three times in merger talks before finally being accepted to the senior circuit in 1979. The headline in the Winnipeg Tribune on March 30, 1979 was “NHL Officially Accepts Our Jets”. What a glorious day that was for us back then!

The Winnipeg Jets have a wonderful and meaningful history which should not be overlooked if and when the NHL returns to the Manitoba capital. It was the Jets that forever changed the style of the professional game from one that was straight up and down the ice to one where players criss-cross and zig-zag all over the ice thanks to Winnipeg’s pioneering with European players. Glen Sather, the mastermind behind the mighty Edmonton Oilers teams, credited the Winnipeg Jets as a major inspiration. We were the first North American club team to beat the powerful Soviet National team. We were the first professional team to be invited to, and play in, the Izvestia hockey tournament in Europe. Which North American team was the first to play a tournament in Japan? You bet, it was our Jets!

For those of us that have been around to see these players play in person at the Winnipeg Arena along with the stars of later years like Dale Hawerchuk, Thomas Steen, Teemu Selanne, etc., it is no wonder we bleed blue, red and white for the Winnipeg Jets name. This team has meant so much to us and to our city. The Winnipeg Jets name represents a unique history with loads of great players who represented us and is recognized all over the world.

As the NHL currently owns the Winnipeg Jets name and all associated trademarks, TNSE could regain the rights as part of the deal to relocate the Atlanta Thrashers. An updated logo, jerseys, etc. would also provide plenty of new merchandising opportunities while still preserving our cherished heritage.

In closing, the Winnipeg Jets name represents a lot of pride that we had in those teams that bore our city’s name on their chests. It is largely because of our previous history (though in no small part also due to the efforts of TNSE) that we are once again the home of an NHL team. We would be missing a tremendous opportunity to re-establish a link to our storied past by not reviving the Winnipeg Jets name. It would only be fitting to continue the history of a franchise that was like no other!

We hereby urge Scarborough Borough Council to lift the covenant on the McCain Stadium and allow Scarborough Football Club to re-locate to its chosen site at Eastfield.

We believe this to be the only way for the club to survive and that this move will be of benefit to the local community.

Please make sure you include your name. Signatures with no name can't be counted.

Allow Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in the 2020 Olympics

I and many others believe that Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a special competitive sport which is highly under-appreciated in the wider population. We believe it would be a fantastic addition to the Olympic events list and even better as a competitive sport in the home of Jiu Jitsu, Japan.

While we understand that the ever growing number of sports included, especially from increased pressure from larger sports has meant that there are already a significant number of events that cannot be fully covered. It would almost be inappropriate for one of the most widely practised martial arts not to be included in it's home Olympics.

It is already a highly competitive sport with millions of elite competitors worldwide and already has world championships in which a high level of competition makes for compelling viewing, whether those watching have previous knowledge of the sport or not.

Help a Baltimore Legend THE RUNNING MAN

A Baltimore police report confirmed that Keith Boissiere was attacked on Thursday in Southwest Baltimore. Police say he was running in the 2700 block of Wilkens Ave. in the Millhill neighborhood at about 3:30 p.m. when someone came up to him and punched him several times in the left eye. The attack left Boissiere with a small laceration, police said.

Boissiere was able to flag down a police officer for help, the report said. Police say he refused medical treatment. The police report listed no suspects.

Boissiere is recognized in many neighborhoods as the "Running Man" because he is often seen running from midday into the afternoon through many parts of the city and is known for his treks from Baltimore to D.C. several times over the years.

With a wide gray beard and long wavy gray hair, the 5-foot-9 Boissiere has been a familiar figure in Baltimore for decades. In 2006, the Trinidad and Tobago native told the Baltimore Sun that runs about 140 miles a week. He worked as a carpenter, at the time, and listed his weight at 127 pounds.
