Tomana Must Go

The statements of the Prosecutor General Johannes Tomana where he advocates for poor children from the age of 12 to be legally permitted to consent sexually and get married, grossly violate the rights of children enshrined in the Constitution of Zimbabwe and International Instruments Zimbabwe is party to.

The Prosecutor General has proven beyond reasonable doubt that he is not suitable to continue as Prosecutor General.

His duty is to protect the weak and vulnerable and such statements trample upon what his office should protect.

The Prosecutor General should with immediate effect resign or be forced to resign as he no longer retain the confidence and trust of the general Zimbabwean populace.

Zimbabwe: Restore Democracy and Foreign Aid

The government of Zimbabwe is giving its impoverished citizens a stark choice: Vote for President Robert Mugabe in the upcoming election — or starve.

Millions rely on food aid in Zimbabwe, but yesterday the regime ordered that foreign aid organizations cease operations. The Zimbabwean government's own food aid programs are now the only source of sustenance for much of the population.

There is solid evidence that in order to receive food aid from the government, Zimbabweans must first show their party registration cards.

If they have a card from Mugabe's ruling party they can have access to food, but if they only have opposition cards they must turn over their national identification cards in order to receive the food they need.

The government holds onto the cards until after the June 27 election — meaning opposition party members will not be able to identify themselves when they go to vote.

Wealth For The People: poverty alleviation in Zimbabwe

According to UNICEF, 21% of Zimbabwean children are orphans – the highest proportion in the world. At the same time Zimbabwe has one of the lowest GDPs, ranked 176 out of 180 countries by the IMF in 2008 and estimated at just $200.

Furthermore, Zimbabwe is recovering from internal conflict that still prevents much aid from reaching it, particularly in the rural areas (lowest ODA for Basic life skills for youth and adults, primary education and early childhood education in Africa - DAC CRS 2007 and UNICEF 2007 data).

Acting President Joice Mujuru: declare water crisis a national disaster

Zimbabwe's water crisis has robbed millions of residents of human dignity, and put thousands of households' at risk of Typhoid and Diarrhea. The spectre of another deadly Cholera outbreak looms.

Against the backdrop of rolling power outages and mounting joblessness, the water woes continue to exacerbate poverty as productivity and development in affected communities is adversely impacted.

The human right to water and sanitation entitles everyone to safe, sufficient, accessible and affordable water, a right the government has an obligation to protect.

Over two million Harare residentse go for weeks without water to drink or bath, and almost eighty-percent of the water sporadically pumped to tax-paying citizens' taps is contaminated.

This deplorable water situation is mirrored accross almost all cities and towns accross Zimbabwe. See: www.hrw.org/reports/2013/11/19/troubled-water-0

This Petition,a citizen-centric initiative to improve service delivery and to hold public officials to account demands the government of Zimbabwe urgently declares the mounting water crisis a national disaster and without delay fund rehabilitation of the water and sewer reticulation infrastructure.

Stop Sexual Harrassment Against Women in Zimbabawe

It is with a heavy heart and insurmountable sadness that DPZ has learnt of the shameful and horrific incident circulating on social media in video format involving a group of touts as they unleash violence and outright sexual harrassment on a young lady because of her dressing.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DwpO7GAnjJU

While DPZ understands the frustrations in the country emanating from the failed economy, economic hardships and overall political disillusionment, the aggression and anger on an innocent young lady is misdirected, irresponsible and a downright disregard of her rights and dignity.

This act and any other acts of violence against women should be categorically castigated with the contempt they deserve. These acts do not belong in a civilised and democratic society which the DPZ aspires to build for a good and prosperous Zimbabwe.

DPZ welcomes the whispers that the police are investigating this incident and hope that it is not simply a public relations stunt. It is our hope that all the perpetrators meet the full wrath of the law. We urge the investigating officers to have a gendered perspective on this disgusting incident to ensure that the victim of this heinous crime feels safe, protected and secure.

DPZ also urges parliament to pass a bill that will protect women from these and other incidents. This is by no means an isolated incident and it's about time that our parliament shows that as elected legislators, they feel for our women, mothers and daughters and will protect them from violations of their human rights.

We seek a nation that will respect the dignity of every individual and that includes the girl child, our daughters, mothers and all women.
