The waitress is making the company money and in return the restaurant should defend the (noted, 18% tip due on parties over 6 or more) policy.
Shame on applebees and more so shame on the pastor.
Note: (from an ex waiter) the waitress by law has to pay tax on the total cost of her sales even if the customer does not give a tip or even in leu of how much the customer left as a tip.
