They suffer the greatest infant loss and maternal mortality, in part because of lack of access/inability to afford birth control and other basic reproductive healthcare. They struggle the most to find safe, affordable childcare. They, together with indigenous women and women of Hispanic/ Latin descent, are paid the least. They make up the largest group of women (especially mothers) who are incarcerated, often because they can't pay small fines and/or court costs. They can lose their children, their jobs, their homes because of it. And round and round we go. It's a vicious cycle. But if we improve these untenable situations for families in poverty, we help to improve them for all women and our families. It is critical to our society as a whole that we work together to solve these problems.
