Miss Andrea Black
It would be a grave crime to afflict Brentford with an ugly skyline, mis-matched bland buildings and rip out the character...the Heart of our treausre...Brentford, steeped in such a wealth of Historic landscape, from Kind Harold, Julius Causer, Oliver Cromwell,Charles Dickens, through to the main life force of the economy the Waterways used to provide, with the beautiful river, and Grand Union Canal that lay adjacent to our homes. Brentford was given the opportunity, along with a much appreciated grant initially around 20 years ago, to be used to embellish and restore and renew. To enrich our community and environment...not to destroy it. The now restored Courthouse with its fountain is a fine example of how any restoration, or new builds could be approached. Perhaps the local council could also provide details of why they have endorsed the use of zinc all over the place, with badly constructed buildings that have no visual appeal. Is there some connection? I would like to see a complete turn around by Barrymore, that could employ creative architects and restorers, or perhaps an alternative developer could step in and relieve them of their destructive plan.
Thank you!

Brentford do not need to be treated like a second rated place to live in! We deserve better, and want a village not a concrete Jungle, with 11 storey's buildings . Yikes :(

Miss Marion Watkinson, Brentford, Middlesex
I have been shocked and dismayed to learn that the architects for Ballymore think this is a suitable design for a major town centre indeed the county town of Middlesex. It beggars belief that a developer from Ireland should imagine that such a prestigious site on the grand union canal is worthy of such a montrous affront to civic planning standards. If this design is not rethought the backlash will have far reaching political repercussions and will result in a failure financially as in Ireland. The economy of the borough Hounslow in west London cannot afford to make a mistake here. Councillors you HAVE to get this scheme looking right or you will reap the whirlwind of such a political backlash in the form of lost votes. We dont want 60s office block architecture. More elegant Georgian proportions with proper roofs and features would be a start!

Mrs Deborah James, Brentford, Mddx
Having lived in Brentford for 26 years and been involved in every plan for the development of Brentford town centre, here is another disasterous proposal. I fully support all commentators. In addition I find extremely sad the dire lack of any VISON for the FUTURE. This will be a dark development, with light blocked from South by high blocks, the wind whistling through those gulleys. No provision for live/work - or any workspace, no link to Kew and river path or future provision for same, by footbridge/cycle over river, no future opportunity for alteration bar demolition. A gloomy 'dormitory' with no provision for change in innovative life-style opportunities. In the current climate you surely need to look to the past, then look AHEAD, be a bit BRAVE and offer something to be excited about.

The height is unacceptable and the overall accommodation fails to acknowledge the needs of the young, the elderly and families. Moreover, my understanding is that the level of affordable accommodation would again be unacceptable. There seem to be doubts concerning the relocation of the Watermans Arts Centre and there is insufficient provision for local businesses and employment. I realise a compromise with the developers has to be struck, but this is not the answer.

We have experience of Hounslow Planning objecting to 3 inches more on a small extension because of the shadow it casts. The idea of having huge towers casting shadows over a currently sunny High Street is outrageous. We need a solution that is sympathetic with the historic area, something that celebrates its past. This isn't central London, it's not Battersea. This is a chance to create something special. Needless to say it's a necessity to provide suitable local amenities for the resulting increase in population, this is the responsibly of professional developers.

Ms. Jean Masters, Brentford, Middx., United Kingdom
We have waited so long for improvements to Brentford and finally we have the opportunity to develop an environment that will provide a pleasant and community-focused heart to our town - one in which we would wish to spend time. Instead of that we are at risk of ending up with an ugly and unsympathetic environment that will drive people away rather than encourage them to want to spend time there. This is the kind of development that risks becoming a run-down no-go area in the future due to its soullessness.

And what about Waterman's? It must be included within the new development, yet this is unclear. The Waterman's cinema is a unique and invaluable resource that is a major asset to Brentford. It MUST remain within Brentford.

Buildings of 6-11 storey high dont fit on with the proposed piazza development besides which they will prove very intrusive for all current residence. NO!

Mrs Margaret Obank, Brentford, Middlesex, United Kingdom
Brentford is a historic town that pre-dates the Roman occupation of Britain. The granite monument outside the County Court records four historic dates: “BC54 at this fortified ford the British tribesmen under Cassivellaunus bravely opposed Julius Caesar on his march to Verulamium”; “In AD 780–1 Offa, King of Mercia, with his queen, the bishops and principal officers, held Council of the Church”; “AD1016 Edmund Ironside, King of England drove Canute and his defeated Danes across the Thames”; and lastly “AD1642 close by was fought the Battle of Brentford between the forces of King Charles and the Parliament”. Brentford was also the birthplace of the famous Pocahontas and the home of a great US president, John Quincy Adams. It became the County Town of Middlesex, and still has a County Court and Magistrates’ Court, a Library, and the Grand Union Canal.
This wonderful history is being completely ignored by this disastrous plan. No blocks of flats should face the high street, particularly the south side, which, when I came to live in Brentford in 1995, was supposed to be developed with river access and frontage to complement the Steam and Musical Museums and Watermans Centre.
