I work 20 hours a week, which cuts into my available time for school work significantly. Most of my money goes toward school fees, rent, food, and bills. I used to pay around $60/month for my bus pass, by using the semester pass. This was almost more than I could pay, but I had to make it work so I could attend school and work. But now that I'm forced to pay the adult rate? I can't afford to buy a bus pass. This was hard but manageable during September, but as the weather gets colder, it will become harder and harder to make the 8 km walk to school, which takes around 1.5 hours. Post-secondary students have some of the lowest incomes in the city, because most of us don't have the option to work full-time. DESPITE MY AGE, I AM A STUDENT. KEEP FARES FAIR. BRING BACK THE STUDENT DISCOUNT FOR POST-SECONDARY STUDENTS.

Prior to this age cap, students were already paying more than they could afford for transportation to and from school and their places of employment. I understand that students from the University of Ottawa and Carleton University have the UPass, but unfortunately students from Algonquin College do not have this service. Only 40% of students at Algonquin College are under the age of 20 (http://www.algonquincollege.com/PublicRelations/html/facts.html), forcing thousands of students to buy adult passes. Even more confusing is that full-time students, with valid student identification are able to get discounts at gyms, VIA rail, grocery stores, etc. So why is it that the city of Ottawa and OC Transpo no longer recognize our student status for a simple discount of $20/month? Additionally, government employees are given the opportunity to purchase an ECOPass, which costs them approximately $82/month. This means that public servants making around $50,000+/ year are now paying less than students who make $20,000/ year or less. My hope is that student monthly and/or semester passes will be reintroduced to save students money they simply do not have.

Most students have to pick up a ridiculous amount of work hours to be able to afford to go to school, now we have to come up with all this extra money to travel around the city? I get a student bus pass which saves me money ,unfortunately, I just found out that the fare changes in july have cut the eligibility for a student bus pass down to 19 and under only. This will mean I will now be paying an EXTRA 20 DOLLARS a MONTH for a TOTAL of 240 DOLLARS EXTRA a year . I hope you reconsider the changes and the impact you will have on your passengers, especially students who are already in debt and living paycheck to paycheck or off OSAP.

If anything that is when we require a break. Most students 19 and under live with their parents and gain financial support from them. Conversly students (as myself) over the age of the 20 are stuck paying tuition, rent, bills all by working a ridiculous amount of hours while I study full-time and while being deep in dept due to student loans. Please get rid of the age cap so students like me can keep using oc transpo without getting deeper in dept or having to sacrifice meals every month.
