I grew up in Chelsea, I know how dangerous it can be with street violence threatening everyone, especially the children. The thought that Chelsea Pride, one of too few youth programs designed to help combat the high crime rate, has been banned due to a good intention by one brave individual, is astounding. There are not enough federal, state, or local government programs in place to ameliorate the problems of high crime in low-income areas. It makes little sense that a unanimous vote was cast down to punish 200 children, when the individual in question valiantly offered to give up his position and admitted his misdeed in order to save the season, and the hopes of these children. Why should these children be robbed of learning community building skills and leadership when they are at the most malleable ages of their lives? This is a time when the community should be coming together. Instead, this ban will serve to show the children that those with power do not care about them.

Yesterday is history we can not change what happened yesterday or last year let's learn from this and move forward in a postive way for the children. It really is punishing the children. I have 2 grandchildren who have told me different stories the sad part is they will dwell on the bad rumors & disappointing memories of their 2012 football season. If there minds don't have something to keep them busy and to look forward to they will never forget this. What kind of message does this give these kids that they don't matter. Some of these kids never played football before so why should something that happened last year affect them this year. What happened to the leaque going by the rules of demotion and cash fine. Why as the newspaper says a death penalty. I'ld like to know what towns the presidents came from that voted is this an anonymous group. Do you know how hard some of these parents had to work to buy the equipment needed. My grandsons cleats are dirty mouth piece has been used these can't be returned. I don't think much thought went into this decsion. This kind of thing has been happening for years.

Gang violence, drug use and abuse are huge influences in the city of Chelsea for young men and woman, Teen pregnancy percentages is also very high for such a small city, there is a huge school drop out rate which could easily lead to any of these previously mentioned negative outcomes. I honestly would like for everyone to take into considerations all the programs that Chelsea really needs and Chelsea Pride being one of the many options young people could have other than all the negative activities that surrounds our youth. Please DON'T CLOSE THE LEAGUE, this is one of the things my son really looks to attend to show all the skills and leadership he has learned by being a part amazing organization.lgs

Just because one child's family either changed his birth certificate or used someone elses or it was an oversite by the league do not penalize the other children.. Come to agreement, maybe check all the kids participating now that they are the right ages. Fine them, penalize them or something else but don"t kick them out of the league..

I always looked forward to him playing Chelsea because I grew up in Chelsea and it will always be my home! This is a sad story all around, These kid's aren't asking for much in life at these ages they just simply want to play football! One bad decision shouldn't ruin things for the whole league and all cities involved because not only do they take Chelsea out of the league they take a game away from the other cities, They've already taken Saugus but for very good reason! (Beverly Vs Saugus 2010 My son's team got jumped on by not only the saugus players but coaches and parents as well, all because a kid got hurt and the refs didn't call a penalty) But this?? One kid playing an extra season when half the kids on the other teams were bigger than him anyway?? That's just ridiculous!! My son is younger than him but will take him on any day because he loves the GAME that much!! these kid's don't care about age, height or weight, they will get on that field and play with grown men if it meant they got to put those pad's and helmet on for another game!!

I l have lots of family members that do live there & have many cousins & friends that are involved with Pride. It's a shame that this program wants to be dissolved. It would be a huge mistake taking this program away from the children. I really hope you reconsider your decision. It would mean a great deal to these children.
