I agree that students be allowed to take their partner, whether it's a same-sex couple or not, to school dates/dances. The school board may be in charge of a student's education, but relationships are fully the student's choice and it doesn't fall into the "education" category. The school board has no right to attempt to control the students' love lives and I find this increasingly offensive and shallow rule outrageous. I would never allow any children of mine to attend a school with such a dimwitted rule and I commend the mother who started this petition.

I would have found it extremely emotionally damaging if I was not allowed to go to a school dance because of my sexual preference. That's saying it isn't ok to be who you are. How is that fair for any student to feel that way because of their school's policy?

If all of the other relationships are allowed to go to the home coming and prom then gay couples should be allowed. It's something that everyone should be able to remember for their life time and not letting someone go because of their sexual orientation is ridiculous.

It's 100 times more for a gay teen... And one who is courageous and honest enough to be open about it??? You are in a position that can either help or harm a high school student... Which do you feel is your job? If you feel that keeping two innocent boys from coming in to a dance is an abomination ... I invite you to observe the dance floor all night, and just make an unofficial prediction to yourself of how many couples you let in to the dance who have either already become intoxicated, will be, are on some pills, and of course, will have sex. Don't feel proud or holy to keep someone from going to their prom on the same gender card... When you let everyone else in. The real facts are, be an adult... You know how volitile and formable teenage years were for you. It's the same and even more for those kids you won't allow in to the dance. You are making a life-long impression on them, that your church, your God, and yourself won't agree with... Care about that person...
