We in Shanklin are in a similar position regarding our allotments. They help to bring together people from diverse backgrounds together and foster community spirit. There is an important benefit to our wildlife particularly small mammals at a time when they are also under threat.

Rose Hadley, Penkridge
I am very much against developments of this type. Allotments are a precious commodity, especially those that are well used with healthy waiting lists. People pour hours and hours of dedication into their plots. Greed by the land owners totally ignore the needs of the allotmenters. Why not offer the allotments to the people who use them? I'm certain there would be some way of them purchasing the land. (e.g. Crowdfunding.)

Geoff Hamilton, Salford
It is ludicrous to build residential units over an entire allotment site, in a location such as this, where the majority of properties will probably be sold to 'commuting' residents who will have no local history or any village heritage. There will also be residential investors who will 'buy to let' and defeat the local need for properties for younger peoples' starter homes. Even if 'affordable housing' is provided this will probably not serve local needs, incomers will prevail. All of this detracts from the need to provide space for people to meet, talk and be socially inclusive. Allotments provide an ideal way for all ages to communicate and share heritage and experience whilst having gentle exercise in the open air, producing 'grow your own' organic crops, fighting obesity in the process and generating 'community' spirit. The residents of Tarporley deserve to have their open space and community inclusion protected and any development which robs them of this facility should be resisted.

Andrea Hallissey, Chester
Allotments shoukd be protected fir future generations.
Their benefits to health and well geing have been acknowledged over the last couple of years. Waiting list are growing and their popularity has never been stronger.
I'd like to register my disgust at yet more plans to sell off and destroy a valuable community asset.
