There are many horses, like my mare, that work so much better, and happily, without a bit. I feel we have better communication and I get more willingness as well. I'm hoping that eventually having a bit (and also having 2 bits in the upper levels) will be a thing of the past. The goal of dressage is willingness, softness and freedom of movement to name a few ... For many horses, including mine, easily get this without a bit, and get a lot of resistance with one.
