As a healthy woman in my 30's, I have paid for private health insurance for over 15 years.

Why? Not because of the Medicare levy imposed when I turned 30. Not because I'm overly cautious about hospital cover. It's because I prefer to use natural therapies over modern medicine. I don't take antibiotics, I see a naturopath and take a natural remedy.

Therefore, if I cannot claim a rebate on the very items that sold private health insurance to me in the first place, I guess I wouldn't see much reason to pay for extras.

I imagine the insurance companies are all a little concerned about that too?

It also threatens the future viability of Australian natural therapy practices and the health and the well-being of thousands of Australians who use the services.

Many of them already pay high private durance fees and full RRP on supplements etc. time after time I am told that they feel so much better and nothing gives me greater pleasure. However, if private rebates were abolished I have grave fears that Naturopathy would become simply unaffordable. I am concerned that Private health funds will no longer provide health rebates for Naturopathy, massage, bowen and other natural health therapies. My health fund currently covers me for these therapies and if they are taken out of my health fund I will no longer see the benefit of having a health fund and therefore will not be bothered keeping my health fund. My entire family has always seen the benefit of visiting natural therapists which has probably saved us from a life of ill health.

I therefore request that you keep the natural therapies as per above in health funds.
