Sure, it may not appeal to the average viewer but for the fans of the book it was quite spot on with the feel and zeitgeist of the books apparent and obvious. I really enjoyed it, and Paul Blackthorne made an excellent Dresden. Since the guy is still in the business playing a secondary role for "Arrow" I think the guyy deserves another shot as a lead in a new version of the show. And with all the "Game of Thrones" shows nowadays I think it would actually go better for the audience now.
Nevertheless, in my opinion, I think Mr Butcher should give it another go.

The books are all brilliant, the first season TV show wasn't perfect, but with a little more financial backing (like with True Blood and Game of Thrones) it could look amazing. The story is there, just get a good production and post team in board and you're on to a winner!

I recommend pitching to HBO, they clearly love a bit of Sci Fi.

We all love the vamps, shape shifters and Fairies, which The Dresden Files has plenty of! Lets add a little ironic and wise cracking wizardry too! And if it can't be TV, get it onto the cinema screens in the form of a hyper budget saga like HP, LOTR & Hobbit or Twilight. It'll have an even bigger fan base than it already has with the current market absolutely lapping up the genre, coupled with some clever marketing techniques and getting some already well loved names involved (I can see Scarlett Johansson as a stunning and dangerous Queen Mab of the Winter Faerie court).

Keep it dark, mysterious and dry humoured and you've got the next big Sci Fi spectacular on your hands!
