As the former head of a group that aids domestic violence victims, I can tell you that there were multiple indications of long-term issues: controlling behavior (his alleged anger at the late hour of her return from a night with friends), past violence (fist through window) with women, and Ms. Perkins having left him repeatedly.

The gun was immaterial in this case: victims of domestic abuse are murdered in a variety of ways--strangled, beaten, stabbed, burned, run over by cars. Sadly, it happens every day.
The most dangerous time for a woman in a battering situation is when she leaves her abuser.

Women--run like hell from men who try to control your behavior: who you spend time with, what you wear, communicating your whereabouts and dictating how much you go out or when you will return. Domestic violence is about POWER and CONTROL. Clearly, Mr. Belcher had long-term issues, the least of which was his possession of a gun. OJ Simpson managed just fine without one, didn't he?

I have a right to protect myself and my family, regardless.

Take away the guns from the people that respect them and guess who has em then, gang bangers and crazy people, but self respecting people who had their firearms taken away are left defenseless!

Every month there is a segment called The Armed Citizen, where there are testimonies of how guns saved peoples' lives. Before stating something so dogmatic as his anti gun rhetoric, maybe he should do his research. Maybe, then he won't sound so ignorant. Albeit his opinion, which we are entitled to, it was the wrong platform and actions should be taken so we don't have to listen future rants of a completely one sided, partly research notion.

We no longer have patriots in this country rather parrots that like to preach government control and a fallacy world where everybody gets along and is fancy and carefree. I have no problem with someone having an opinion but when you use a spotlight such as an NFL game to preach your political views we loose the outlet of sports and family time and go back to the harsh reality of red vs blue that just once in a while it is nice to get away from; and just watch some American football with the family. I personally vow I will never tune into NBC Sunday Night Football Again.
