I would like to express my opposition to the construction of subsidized housing at 10415 Yonge Street, Richmond hill. This area has had a rapid rate of growth in the past few years and already has many high density issues. This proposal along with the current construction of Genesis place high rises, will turn this corner of our once beautiful and quite neighborhood to one of the busiest, and probably ugliest places in all of York region. Addition of more lower income housing in the neighborhood will also lower value of our homes in this area, overcrowd schools, and cause a great many other problems, most notably deteriorating city services and slow traffic.

While I understand that construction of lower income housing is of great importance to the welfare of our society and support this idea in general, I believe that such housing facilities should be built in newer, less crowded neighborhoods of our town, where the price of land is cheaper.

Having just purchased my first home, I hope to raise a family here.

I am disappointed that the Town of Richmond Hill has neglected our community here and proposes to cram more low income high density housing in this area.

This is not fair and will damage our community by increasing the already high crime rate, and introducing drugs and gangs to the neighbourhood's children.

We are against the proposed development!

We have learned our lesson the hard way by concentrating public housing (ex. Regent Park, Jane & Finch). We all recognize the importance of providing affordable housing in our communities. It supports the need to have a caring and sustainable community. But, I think the Region needs to re-consider this proposed development as the concentration will, in all likelihood, result in reduced quality of life for those living in the units and higher crime rates in the area. I urge the Town of Richmond Hill to consider this in their evaluation of the proposal.

Firstly, introducing high-density, subsidized housing will increase the already elevated crime in this area. The existing subsidized buildings located at 41 and 42 Crosby Ave. already generate significant crime in the area. The buildings are constantly patrolled and there are often misdemeanors that may not come up on your radar such as the selling and using of drugs, alcohol, as well as vandalism and graffiti. Many of these activities take place within a close radius of the two buildings.
Moreover, the demolition of the exixting concrete wall will expose our street that will become the main zone for drugs, prostitution and guns related crimes.
