Look at yhe Faniels building on Bloor at Pacific. It is not geared to multi-aged tenants from the ad pictures that it had and has ugly building materials although there was a slighy concession to some brick. The neighbourhood now looks like an expensive high-rise ghetto which includes the huge amout of building along the Gardiner. Our councillor opened the doors to this despite tough local opposition and look at the number ofapplications there are in the area. The buildngs are way too tall and are business not human residential scaled and have pushed up the rent everywhere. Minto is increasingly finding more and more ways to have unnecessary capital improvements to krep up but we arent being asked. It's now 4, 5.5% AGI's in 4 yrs with snother coming and huge reluctsnce to upgrade residents'suites.

Petitions are useful tools for mobilizing support against a municipal development, but they serve a limited value as a tool to fight the developer who's violating building codes, bribing the local city inspector, etc.

I have gone through your struggle both in Toronto and Montreal and witnessed my father go through it several times against two municipalities north of Collingwood. I helped fight the mega-quarry proposed by the American-owned Highland Farms, which -- must to everyone's amazement -- was successful for reasons too numerous to mention here. The main reason was the coalition against the quarry included strange bedfellows -- potato farmers who sold their farms from 2009 on to a representative of Highland Farms -- as a potato company; real estate agents in the area.

It start with, it will ruin our lovely pool, which is currently surrounded by large trees, all of which will be torn down so that a tower full of people can replace them to watch over us as we swim. The wind on our 7th floor balcony is so severe it's impossible to keep any deck furniture outside, as it all becomes piled up at the south end. I can't fathom the consequences of adding yet another building to this wind tunnel. There is no parking on the street as it stands, and traffic congestion is already unacceptable. Not to mention the years of noise and dust the construction will produce right outside our windows. This development is a bad idea for High Park, it will ruin our aesthetic and lifestyle in ways we can't even imagine. I have lived in this peaceful area for 9 years, and I don't want to see it destroyed by allowing this sort of development. This must be stopped.

These ecological spaces are ancient, they are the lungs of all of us; they are our beauty. We cannot destroy them and pretend it is for the good. It is not. Stop denial. High Park is not just a park that is situated within its boundaries; it extends to the community, it encompasses the sense of place and the village it creates as a cultural and an ecological landscape. My mom, Mila, artist and poet, says that beauty must be protected. Nicholas Roerich, author of Banner of Peace, now UNESCO, says, "the awareness of beauty saves the world." We protest the "development" because we as community don't need the development, we need nature and its organic growth with beauty and wholeness. We must protect the integrity of the ecosystem and cannot violate the basic ecological, cultural spiritual landscape that exists! The ecology of the area is delicate and complex and the developers do not have moral obligation to simply destroy trees, buildings, disturb the ecosystem which is a part of the larger Nature of the world that they neither create nor develop. This is a home for migrating birds, butterflies, animals who know the place by heart.
