I worked for P&H and then Square D before relocating to California in 1986. I was friends with John Saggers, a former president of
Peoples Bank, and got to see areas of the bank that the general public did not. It would be a shame to see this very unusual Sullivan building destroyed. The vault door always astounded me, and the basement was so typical Sullivan that I found myself feeling like I knew him personally. Save this weird, different building. Sullivan cut corners on the outside to meet the construction costs back then, but inside WOW. I almost cried when I saw the bank flooded.

I believe that those affected by the flood shouldn't have to give up family homes in areas where the proposed dikes can't provide protection while still paying taxes on them.

- It seems the requirements have changed since the original competition was held. Redefine the need without prescribing a solution, and re-compete the project.
- Levees and flood walls have shown themselves to be failure prone and NOT fail safe. In a sense, they attempt to constrain nature, and such attempts are so often in vain.
- Consider other options and work WITH the river and its immense power rather than attempting to fight it.

I also view some of the other historical sites and always come away thankful they are there.
If Cedar Rapids no longer had them I would probably not make it one of my stops anymore.

It is one of the great buildings of the 20th century. Demolishing it would be a travesty regardless of the reason.
