Since I have moved to Al they no longer have any recess. I have seen a dramatic change in their ability to sit still, as they have an over load of energy that they are unable to release. This is too stressful and detrimental to a childs well being they need to have breaks too. They need to be able to be kids too if we expect so much from them the rest of the day.

Recently, I was informed by my Principal that our school would spend each and every second preparing for the SATs--so no more ten minute recess for my second greade class (we don't even test). I am furious!! My students look forward to this part of the day and are able to play in a nonstructured way. It also helps my non-English speaking children to practice their language and bond with the other students.
